Can someone explain how this game is still fun?

I have a multitude of issues with the game’s economy, always online nature, and artificial scarcity. However, I think the core gameplay of racing is massively fun.

The cars look and sound amazing, the photo mode is amazing, and the overall presentation (minus MTX and aforementioned issues) is really cool. I do not want to take anything away from the developers who worked hard on this game. They did a damned good job.

Online racing. I'll have fun until Gran Turismo 8. For me, it's a sport, a hobby, not just another game. I don't even like games, actually.
I'm more of a "simracer" than "gamer".

But if you compare it to Netflix or other games, I understand everything you're saying. We have totally different preferences.

Perspectives and preferences.

i do nt really think people should be comparing to any title pre GT5 really, you have to remember this games were final and had to last a number of years so the level of content needed to be high.

Titles from PS3 onwards were getting continuous updates and expanded over time something the earlier titles couldn’t do, GT7 has also only been out 2weeks!

Admittedly I never really spent any time on GTS so the last game I put serious time into was GT6.

I did the Cafe stuff with 3-4days and currently working through the missions (need to gold 4 more) then I’ll start on IB licences on wards. My DD Pro arrives Monday so I’ve been waiting for that before I finish the licence stuff and go through all the events not cafe related.

Overall I’m happy with the current level of content but I would like to see stuff added (free dlc) within the 1st 3 months which I think is reasonable
Okay Gran Turismo 5 had around 230 races on day of launch along side an Online mode. It also has over 1000 cars to choose from. GT6 also had more or less everything Gt5 had but more. That just backs up my comparison even more. I was being generous when I compared it to the Ps2 games as the Ps3 ones had allot more content. GT has seriously gone down hill since PS4 and me and allot of people thought this was gonna bring back how it was before GTSport but nope it was just a shill. I mite go out and buy a ps3 and just play GT6.
But even so you are backing developers saying its fine that they release 20% of the game then give us the rest in updates. That is not ok because you are paying for the them so you should get the game. What if your someone who lives far outside of a town or city and broadband in your area isn't amazing. You mite rely on games coming as a full product rather then 80% needing to be downloaded. There is also no excuse for a lack of races in a racing game as they aren't hard to make. Laps, car reqs, weather and track. Oh and add some thumbnail for the cover.

Sorry the hole post is in bold. It was glitching and making half bold and half not so it was either all or half. I chose all.

I loaded up the game once since the new update. It took me a long time to build up the courage to load it up (I was debating if the game was actually worth my time). I started up a race got to half way through and remembered I have Netflix so I quit the game again.

  • Right so if you buy credits you will spend them and be straight back to where you started so I feel like even if you are silly enough to buy micro-transactions you are only putting a bandaid on your problem.
  • This is obvious but you would have to repeat the same race for a hole day just to buy 1 legendary car (Not even tune it)
  • There is less races in this game then Gran Turismo 3 on the Ps2 (GT3 made in the year 2001 over 2 decades old)
  • The core racing is very similar to GTSport which you haven't got to spend money on to buy your favourite car. You just don't have the option to tune it but then you know Sport mode is balanced as your car is the exact same as someone else using the same car.
  • 90% of this game is copied directly from GTSport so most of the stuff you can do in GT7 you can do in the previous game
  • If you have a PC or Xbox you can play Forza Motorsport 7 which overall offers more fun then Gt7
  • Is it really fun repeating the same race 100 times just to buy a new car? If its the tuning aspect that you enjoy the most then you can already do this in Need for Speed?
  • GT7 hasn't brought anything new to the racing genre. Everything in this game has already been done. This isn't next generation racing. The Sophy AI hasn't even been added to the game so there for the only next gen thing hasn't been added to the game. Also Kaz stated that we need to wait for the rest of the races. So would you even call this game complete? That's clearly enough reason for Sony to have to allow a refund right there.
Overall the game isn't made with any passion which really shows. It just feels so empty and rushed. Even if I buy another car there is hardly any races to enjoy with that car. The Sport mode just overall isn't that fun for me. When I am playing it I am not working towards anything and I am not that good at the game compared to allot of people so I never come in the top 3 which makes the reward around 5k if not less credits.
The single player isn't even a real campaign. It's just a random bunch of races. Remember single player on GT Sport where there was a huge variety of race series. Each 1 was different. You would select 1 and it would be 5 races all in cars with Rotary engines or another 1 and it would be Beatles and campers and another that would be F1. There was such a wide variety of types of races. Why is that not in GT7. You still get the same concept but it has been made so basic and boring. Like there was only 5 or 6 unique races in the hole game. Not counting rally events as I wouldn't call this unique. If you still have GTSport downloaded. Just go on there and check out the variety of race events. Maybe even sit there and play a few races and tell you you don't have more fun playing that game than you do on GT7? The time when GT7 was down I was playing GTSport and honestly its made my opinion of GT7 way lower.
With Sport I am constantly playing new races because I know my credits are going up at a good rate no matter what races I am enjoying.
With Gt7 I am playing the same few races because nothing else pays well enough to be worth my time.
In GTSport I am using loads of different cars because the races have a hugely wide variety of event types that only certain cars qualify in.
GT7 the race restrictions are so basic you mainly just use the same cars all the time and I am repeating the same races as well so I am using the same car all the time anyway. Its just a PP restriction, Ferrari or rally. I think there was Ford F150 or something aswell. There you go that's all of GT7s unique race types. FUN!
In GTSport there is over 300 races to enjoy
In GT7 there is 90. I actually counted them. This includes all the menu book races. Not including champion ships thou. So we will be generous and add an extra 30 races for those (Even thou its less that that) so 120 races.
GTSport tuning is free. Or it cost milage points but you get more of those then you'll ever use. So its basically free.
GT7 tuning cost so many credits that you need to spend around 3 hours repeating the same race just to fully tune your car. Don't have the tires to qualify for a race? Well FU! go hit that track again.

I can't be bothered to list anymore. At this point its not even a comparison. GTSport is just overall more fun and a better game. I don't care about spoilers, defusers and body kits so much that I am willing to spend all day going round the track to try them out on a single car.

If you can think of anything to add then hit those comments up. But overall GT7 is just not a good game. It brings nothing new that hasn't already been done in another game. The only thing new its brought to the GT series is body kits and defusers.
Missions and circuit experience is just a twist on licenses so I count them as the same thing.
Its not a Next gen racing experience but instead a copy and paste of GTSport with tuning added and then a paywall behind everything you do. If people are seriously gonna put money on that then that would be extremely silly and it will make Sony rip them off even more. If you are sensible then you won't give into peer pressure and Sony will realise this isn't the way to go about things and they mite have some warmth in that extremely cold heart and remove these bs mtx requirements.

To quote the man himself, it pains me to agree with the op. After two weeks of fairly repetitive gaming, I'm struggling for reasons to keep coming back. I can't even buy my favourite cars until they magically appear.

*Doing hot laps and tuning my favourite cars is fun of course, it's just that there are so many annoyances too. It's a real mixed bag for me.

It can still be fun if you play like couple of random races a day after you done with everything, no grinding tho
Problem is there won't be any progression that way, if you are after overpriced relics

It would still be fun if the 10lap races gave a bit more credits instead, just to encourage you not to grind on high speed ring, fishermans ranch ect.. But they want you to get bored, so you want to open up your wallet to pay for those Ferrari invites... which will soon expire btw 🖕🤑🖕

Absolutely.

I only finished the cafe today, but I still haven’t every event, licence test, driving mission, circuit experience.

After the game went back online I racked up the most amount of KMs I’ve done since launch. Mostly I just hop between single player and sport mode.

Coming to think about it I haven’t tried a regular lobby yet.

I'm beginning to get pissed off with it and Ai car bull****, doesn't tell you if race might have rain for it to start on first lap and you can't go faster than 50 🤔 not a clue whick tests i have to redo to get my rain licence 😡 so route X is no different than any other race yet the refuce the prize minet because they dont want you making credits! selling you GTSport again and trying to say it different , nice scenery doesn't help the races , music wont stay on what ive tried to set at, if i could get my money back i would.

I literally just hotlap bone stock 80's and 90's cars around Tsukuba and High Speed Ring for hours and it's a blast. Even more fun are the lower spec cars with Comfort tires on them. Hustling one of those around just on the limit is so rewarding.

Bruh, you're gonna need to slow down and go through this post again and edit it so it makes sense.

I’m practicing for the GTWS races while waiting for F1 qualy to start. Later on I’ll be trying to get gold around some of the circuit experiences and maybe i’ll do a bit of online racing. Sounds fun to me.

The used car dealership is rubish everytime that i actually get new cars half of them are post 2001that i can buy in brand central and than another quarter of the cars they already gave me from menu books. There is a ton of old cars not availale at brand central they could be giving us instead of useless crap.. My other big issue is we have no milestones and the collector level does absolutly nothing besides give a few useless rewards. We really should have some sort of driver level that tracks our actual driving milestones as this is supossed to be a driving simulator not a collecting simulator SMH...I own playstation for gran turismo and MLB the show they now offer MLB on XBOX, so at the rate this game is going when i update consoles it just might be my first time with an xbox

Yeah but Kaz wrote a nice letter saying thats not what there trying to do lmao.. He said he wants you to experience all races and vehicles regardless of the payout and the ubserd costs to buy simple things like tires lmao.. If you really did all the races and used a different car every other race you either wouldn't be competitive or you would have to be purchasing microtrsnsactions what do ya know the Root of all gaming evils hahaha

Drive something you want to drive, at tracks you like, and the credits will come. If you get hung up on collecting credits, you'll end up doing the same race over and over and over and over and over and end up thinking that the game is repetitive and not fun.

I got every car I wanted in GT Sport using the former method and I was not bored at any point.

However, as @CnPx has decided the game isn't fun, and knocked back every suggestion that attempts to make it so, I don't get the point of this thread.
What do you mean. 1 person suggest that he enjoyed making liveries and I liked his post.
Then someone else said about driving 20 laps round a wet track but he didn't say he liked doing that it was suggesting for me to do and I said no because it only rewards 25k credits and that custom races should give you twice as much. This would be a huge benefit to the game as people would be able to make there own races and they wouldn't be so frustrated waiting for more races to be added to the game.
I haven't crapped on anyone else's enjoyment at all. Its good others can find value is this product. Personally I can't, I think at £70 I got ripped right off. I would much rather people be happier with their purchases then I am. Everyone is different. Me personally I always like to be working towards something and I like to do that efficiently. That is why I get frustrated that there isn't many ways to do that in this game and when there was the devs removed them all. So now I can't buy my favourite cars and tune them up and test them out. Or I can but its gonna take weeks before I get my car collection. Weeks of grinding round the same few race events because the devs won't make custom races rewarding and won't add more races. Or they will after a few months. Right now they are busy going out and partying with that micro-transactions money.

So You're spending more time complaining than actually playing the game? Well, I think we located the problem! And here's a solution, drive a bicycle, it's fun and healthy. 👍

Yh the core racing is good I won't deny that. But I with such little content for me to enjoy and custom races just not being worth it then I don't really get to experience the core racing.
It would be great if I could make my own custom races in my favourite cars and earn more then 2k for 10 minutes racing.

1 person suggest that he enjoyed making liveries and I liked his post.
But your comment was...

Im not artistic. I don't like making liveries.

And anyway, you didn't like his post.

Right now they are busy going out and partying with that micro-transactions money.
Did you miss how the game was off just then and they released an update within a day? I also wasn't aware that they'd published how much they've made from the "micro"-transactions. Please do enlighten us.

I don't think the game itself is bad, it just needs:

More events
Better payouts for the current events
Ability to sell cars

Those 3 alone would make a world of difference.

Hopefully by this time next month we will have atleast 2 of the 3 above fixed as 1/4 of the cars in the game are useless at the moment unless you nerf them.

Can't explain it, but I'm luvvin' it!

To be honest, I don‘t care about microtransactions in general and extremely rarely buy them but more about the fact, that PD has decreased the prize money of several races including, most crucially and the reason why I have uninstalled GT7 yesterday - the Dirt Champions race at Fisherman’s Ranch which was the by far the most profitable farming race.

It‘s upsetting that since GT3 PD has moved everytime further to hamper ways to make money and buy/win cars. Since GT6(Don‘t know about GT5) you can only win cars for each race or championship once, are unable since GTS to sell it and now comes PD to eliminate opportunities to stop their fans to dodge their Microtransactions a tiny, wealthy minority wants or can afford by massively decreasing prize money of races or any event. And I was extremely disappointed since launch about the pathetic payout for Sport races, I mean 42k for the winner of the current Daytona Event is so ridiculing. It is a long time since I‘ve played GT Sport but I remember that it were middle 6 digits for the winner back then and unlike GT7, the car prices are far lower.

Kaz‘ statement yesterday doesn‘t remotely answer this problem and importantly doesn‘t solve it.

And I believe the majority of you are playing GT to own and drive all available cars or nearly all as I did in GT4, GT6 and not watch them. If I am not wrong this is a game, not a commercial.

This is a game where you have to make you own kind of fun , be it collecting cars, completing races and license's .making skins, taking photos, tuning cars. Having said that I don't want a " forever grind " to collect enough credits just so I can barely buy the cars I really without any MTX's.Let be real : A driving simulator but not a fun driving simulator by the way it is set up at this moment.

Yh that's why its not fun. It was fun at 1st but now I have done everything I am just repeating the same content. I haven't done the circuit experiences but they are boring to me. I bought this game expecting a decent amount of races which the amount there is to me is just more then disappointing. In Forza you get Time trial rivals, Drift Rivals, Races online and offline and custom races all of which earn you a good amount of credits (Rivals are time/score trials against online leaderboards). You also have unique games types for online like infected, vip, etc... Which may I remind you that you get credits for participating in these games as well. You also have these fun single player games as well like this 1 event you have to drive round a track knocking over bowling pins. You also get credits for that. Note how everything gives you rewards. You always have something to do. I am not saying completely rip off Forza but I think Gran Turismo should have its own unique cool stuff that is fun. It also needs to find something that earns money and switches round for those who don't enjoy Sport mode. Cos at the moment people that don't wanna race competitively online have to rinse the same races to earn cash. Forza has done this well, GT needs to find something so its not so repetitive and boring.
Also "World Circuits" should be "World Events" and offer more then just circuit races. Like Drag Races where you can use your own cars as in missions you can't. And Drift events or at least make drift trials pay you money. Drifting so much fun and yet you only get like 5 drift events in the hole game and you have to use a provided car.
I feel like Gran Turismo has graphics and physics done quite well but the actual features and content in the game is something so far behind on. Like they need to get with the times. The only innovation they have done with this game is missions. But there is barely any of them. Plus they should have just had drag racing and drift events not even in missions but as actual events instead. Music rally is even debatable as to class that as new content as it isn't even part of the game. Its more bonus content. What I am saying is so obvious and I don't know why the devs didn't make it like that instead. Like especially drag racing. Do qtr miles in your own cars would be so cool! But no you have to use a provided car!? Honestly its dumb.
