Johnny, I think we're on the same page. I don't want to rush into it yet but also don't want to have a prolonged testing period. That's why I mentioned Friday, it gives us several days this week for everybody to get in on a practice session and test some things out. We can push it back to next Tuesday (May 24) if everybody's ok with that, would give us a full weekend for testing that way.
Owens and I are hosting the Indy 500 this coming weekend, so some of my time will be taken up by that. You guys are more than welcome to organize some practice sessions amongst yourselves though, just relay to me how things went and any suggestions that arise so we can address any necessary modifications or adjustments to the format.
Qualifying: I'm now leaning towards doing a standard "fastest first" qualifying. I've learned that black loading screens and inconsistent starting grids are mainly due to cars being out on track when the race is started. Before qualifying I will ask everyone to return to the lounge while I "reset" the track (this clears the times), then everyone can return to the track for qualifying. Once qualifying has started everyone must stay on track or in the pits and NOT return to the lounge (this is how the game gets confused). After qualifying finishes, everyone returns to the pits and stays there, DO NOT return the the lounge or the game will lose your qualifying time. The race timer will be started and everyone will stay in the pits (not on track) until the race begins. This should eliminate black loading screens and screwed up starting orders, as long as everyone follows instructions. We will test this.
I enjoy pace laps and have had some experience with them. If enough people want to do it we can add that to the format. 1 lap would be enough, no pace car. The field goes green when the pole-sitter hits the start/finish line. If everyone has their maps zoomed in enough they should be able to see exactly when the leader crosses the line and know when they can go green. Give me feedback on this and we'll make a decision.
