I hopped on and did a few laps to get a feel for the online physics and was able to do a 1:05.488 as my best but I didn't really do any other tuning than adjusting my gears a bit. I just wanted to see how this car felt online since I've heard so much about how different it is. I didn't find it to be too much of a handful, not as much as I expected anyway. I did spin it a few times which was something I hadn't done before but was able to avoid spins after the first couple laps. I'm happy it's a little looser online, makes it a little more fun and challenging to drive. I think the sports softs are a good fit. 👍

Now, down to business! I should be opening up a lounge by noon EDT for tuning and some practices races. We'll try a couple of the other tracks too so we can get a feel for how they fit the Capps, and because I'm sure everybody's tired of Tsukuba by now. lol

Again, if you haven't added me, send a request to BrandonW77 once you're able to get online. See you all on track!!! :)

I was able to hit a 1:03.7xx after trying a few different lines. Seems like I'm losing time in the back straight. Did you change your 3rd gear for that hairpin iforce?

I'm gonna tweak the lower gears a bit and try again later.

For now I'm off. I keep getting disconnected anyway so bleh. But you all have fun and I expect a full report later :)

👍

If your still on in an hour or so I'll be there, I'm doing some Nascar to back in the swing of things.

Me too - however, PSN is still down here. Anyway, looking forward playing with you guys. IGN: Vatrox

I'll oficially sing up once I try the car online, you guys are making me a bit worried :)

Btw, those 1.03.xx times are at Tsukuba, right?

iForcev8 ran 1:03.3 in a little sprint we did.

I had gotten down to 1:03.7

This is online.

Are you guys still playing? PSN just came back online at my place, I would love to try some online racing with the Capp :)

Mind if I add you? IGN: Vatrox

Yep, we have a lounge open with 8 people in it! And yes, we're still accepting drivers, everyone's welcome to join.

Add BrandonW77 on PSN

Is PSN online for anyone currently? Mines still saying It's under maintenance, had about 10 mins of trying to change my password and kept getting errors or timing out, really frustrating... Is this just me? I'm in the UK

Will get ya added asap.

Anyone who's online now, DON'T log out! Lots of people can't get online again including me, just a heads up, it seems ok for some people though

Vatrox and Pyxen, welcome to the group, you've both been added to the registration list. Get me your car number and colors and I'll add those to the list.

IforceV8, for some reason I didn't have you on the list, get me your info and I'll update it. You were in a green Capp yesterday, right? There were several green Capp's so I changed mine to white w/ green wheels. :)

So, it was GREAT to finally run with some of you yesterday! It still seems kinda surreal, we actually got to race together!!! lol It was a total blast and I must say I really enjoy this car online with sports softs. Seemed like a couple people were having a few problems but I suspect some adjustments to the LSD will help with that. Seems like there's a lot of great advice in the group, so I'm sure we'll all be able to get our cars sorted out.

For those of you who weren't able to join, we had a room open for several hours and put some serious miles on our Capp's! We did some long test sessions at Tsukuba, Trial Mountain, Nurburgring GP/D, and some shorter runs at Grand Valley E/R and Monaco. We held some short races at the first 3, it was a lot of fun and a lot of clean driving! 👍 I had to depart for awhile but I think some more practicing went on after I was gone. I was a solid 2 seconds of my offline times at Tsukuba, but that seemed to be about the average. IForceV8 was very fast at each track and won each of the 3 races I participated in. I saved the replays and hope to get some photos up in the next day or two.

So, where do we go from here? I think we need to give everybody a chance to get their car online and adjust to the different feel as well as tweak their setups so I think tomorrow night might be a little too early to officially kick things off. Friday might be a good night to start though, that would give us a few days for some practice/tuning sessions and let everybody get dialed in and comfortable with the Capp. At least one night this week I'd like to run a mini-race-program with qualifying and everything, just so I can get a feel for what the race event will be like and make sure I'm prepared for everything. I know everybody's already getting tired of Tsukuba, so maybe we could do a 15 lap race at Eiger for the test event. The setup for Tsukuba should work well on Eiger so hopefully nobody'd have to make any big adjustments, and we wouldn't double up one of the tracks from the season that way. I'm still not positive if I want to do a heat race for qualifying or just reset the track and have a 10 minute hot lap qualifying. In our downtime I've been reading up on the inconsistencies with the starting grids and I think I know how to minimize or eliminate them but I'd like to try it out.

Let me know your thoughts.

IMO we shouldn't rush into things now that the network is up. I think it would be ok for most people to take the next scheduled race date and run it as a practice night, with practice starts and practice races and that kind of thing, just so everyone can get a feel for it, racing together in the cars, whichever start method you choose, the set ups etc. We should also finalize who is racing when and try and get confirmations from everyone. See what the turnouts are for each practice session and go from there. If someone can't make the practice session but still wants to race, they should post their intent so it doesn't leave you guessing.

I did get out for a few laps but kept getting disconnected so I gave up. It's gonna be a handful...lol...but it'll be fun.

As far as qualifying goes, I'd rather just have an open qualifying session and fastest first starts. That's how things work in most racing around the world, with only a few exceptions and it gives everyone a chance to get in a few good laps. The problem is sometimes with the starts, with some people getting stuck with the black screen at the start. I know at Daytona, and I would presume all tracks, if we are all in the pits when the countdown to start is completed, it helps avoid black screen. Alternately you could do some kind of delayed start, with either everyone on the grid and waiting or a pace lap of some kind. A pace lap really appeals to the driver in me, just like in real racing, I just wonder about the logistics of it, if everyone is going to listen to whomever is calling the start, someone jumping the gun etc. I suppose you always have the replay for that though.

I think it would be great to try in practice at least, a rolling, 2x2 starting format after a pace lap, with the polesitter controlling the pace but trying to hit the start finish at a given speed like 100 km/h or so depending on the track. That would be spectacular, especially on the replay, but I wonder how much chaos it will cause in the first corner with the cars so close together...lol. At some tracks, like GVE for example, the grid is huge, and starting in the middle or back of the pack is a real penalty even in a longer race so this would help to resolve that.

Just last night I participated in a league race and we tried a pace lap start for the first time and I thought it worked quite well. Putting a lap on cold tires before racing was very beneficial. We just followed the pole sitter around the track and made sure the on-screen grid order didn't change until we crossed the start line. Keeping that first corner clean is up to each individual driver regardless of how we start, it seems like we are all familiar we that and I doubt it will be much of an issue.
I'm planning on being a Tues racer in our league, I'm fine with another practice session tomorrow. It's nice to get on the track and get a feel of the other racers before we start the season.

Thank you. I'm going to run #17 Imola Orange Pearl/Black Enkei Cappuccino, however I would really like to get some practice online first. As I said, I am not familiar with online racing on Gran Turismo yet, hoon session like yesterday's could be useful for me - still a bit annoyed I missed it cause of the PSN outage.

Anyone up for more practice today?

I'll add a bunch of you guys when I'm next online, got it working now, yay :) Haven't been online with the Cappucino yet though lol

Everyone add me! :)

Johnny, I think we're on the same page. I don't want to rush into it yet but also don't want to have a prolonged testing period. That's why I mentioned Friday, it gives us several days this week for everybody to get in on a practice session and test some things out. We can push it back to next Tuesday (May 24) if everybody's ok with that, would give us a full weekend for testing that way.

Owens and I are hosting the Indy 500 this coming weekend, so some of my time will be taken up by that. You guys are more than welcome to organize some practice sessions amongst yourselves though, just relay to me how things went and any suggestions that arise so we can address any necessary modifications or adjustments to the format.

Qualifying: I'm now leaning towards doing a standard "fastest first" qualifying. I've learned that black loading screens and inconsistent starting grids are mainly due to cars being out on track when the race is started. Before qualifying I will ask everyone to return to the lounge while I "reset" the track (this clears the times), then everyone can return to the track for qualifying. Once qualifying has started everyone must stay on track or in the pits and NOT return to the lounge (this is how the game gets confused). After qualifying finishes, everyone returns to the pits and stays there, DO NOT return the the lounge or the game will lose your qualifying time. The race timer will be started and everyone will stay in the pits (not on track) until the race begins. This should eliminate black loading screens and screwed up starting orders, as long as everyone follows instructions. We will test this.

I enjoy pace laps and have had some experience with them. If enough people want to do it we can add that to the format. 1 lap would be enough, no pace car. The field goes green when the pole-sitter hits the start/finish line. If everyone has their maps zoomed in enough they should be able to see exactly when the leader crosses the line and know when they can go green. Give me feedback on this and we'll make a decision.
