The race is tonight!! I lost a day somewhere. I read the title of this thread and thought Brandon was off by a day until I looked at the Crackberry and realized it was Tuesday...lol. 1:37's? I ran a few laps a few days ago at Laguna and don't think I got under 1:40 and I remember thinking I was blazing fast...I've got some work to do...lol.

Welcome to the series, but make sure to read the OP closely, it's against the rules for the 'new guy' to come in and dominate our lap times! :sly:

I'll be totally surprised if that lap time holds up!

Congratulations Brosif on another Capp Cup win. We might have to start calling you Brosif Vettel. I think I'll make you change your off-throttle diffuser before the next race. ;)

I'd like to give a shout out to dsg. He should have been up with Brosif, but I tapped him, eventually causing a spin on the first lap. He battled from last to second while Brosif drove off into a different timezone. Sadly, he spilled beer on his keyboard on the last lap and had to stop, letting me and Owens past.

Cheers to a great race that the results don't show! :)

Although the race ended up being glorified hotlapping, It was still pretty fun working my way up through the pack slowly. See you Friday.

^ No idea why I spun. I thought I saved that tap, but then I probably went on the gas a little to eagerly.

Anyway, laptop is drying, but the beer is gone =]
Seems like I have to try to return this week, seeing that, to my surprize, my lap times were pretty decent. I suppose Elise race @Laguna on Sunday was worth something in the end.

Impressive outing none the less.

Brosifduder and company. Would you guys be interested in a tuning session for those of us struggling to get the car to work. Last two weeks I had a pushy car that is burning tires 2:1 front to rear.

Also is it me or do you guys think these Cappy races help teach us how to extract time and learn the lines as well how to be smooth. Which I personally thought to be useless in faster cars. Feel like I was wrong. These cars taught me a lot. More so smooth lines. Something I carry over to the faster stuff.

Was one of those wanting Racing Hards. After some thought and time with the car and sport softs. I wouldn't want to use anything else for these.

Anyway wall text over.

Just out of curiosity, what were lap times looking like?

I seem to be falling further behind in every race. My best lap times last night were a couple of high 1:40's but mostly in the :41's. Brosif and the leaders were running :38's and even a few :37's so I'm about 4 seconds a lap off the pace which is not good. Granted I didn't put a lot of practice time into this track before last night, but I felt like my car was handling quite well and that I had found most of the fast lines around the track, it just wasn't good enough.

I've also come to the realization that I'm probably not aggressive enough, at least not compared to some of the other drivers. When I'm battling with somebody my first concern is to not take either of us out and my second concern is gaining/retaining the position, because of this people take advantage and force their way by me. I also don't view every turn as an over-taking opportunity, when I'm close to someone I think ahead to the next turn that will provide a chance to make the pass and hang right on their bumper until we get to that turn. Last night I had multiple people trying to over-take me on turns that are not meant for passing and it would result with me taking a trip through the sand. There wasn't necessarily any contact but when there's only one possible line through a turn and the trailing driver forces their way onto that line then the leading driver has no choice but to wreck or go off track.

If you can't tell I'm rather frustrated after last night's race so I'm going to keep this to a minimum to avoid saying something I regret, but it sure felt like I was driving with 3 or 4 Lewis Hamilton's last night.

Here's a thread I'd recommend reading before the next race:

Your prompt exit from your lounge following the end of the race last night led me to believe that you weren't very happy. After watching the race replay, I fully understand your frustration and am very, very happy that I wasn't running mid pack. Diving inside someone on the left-hand kink leading onto the Rahal Straight is a huge no no. There is only one line through there and at least one of you are going to end up unhappy. Also, if you lose control and spin off into the dirt/grass, use your head. This means:
  1. Do use all devices available (map, mirrors, look back button, look right button, look left button, etc.) to ensure that you aren't pulling onto the track in front of someone which would cause them to have to do anything they wouldn't typically do on that section of track to avoid your jalopy.
  2. Do NOT intentionally drive onto the track to impede the progress of others.
  3. Do NOT forget to check if your car has suffered mechanical damage which could inhibit the ability of your racecar to accelerate quickly, drive in a straight line, and/or corner effectively.
  4. Do NOT forget that after having a four wheel, off-road excursion your tires will be dirty for approximately five seconds which means you will have considerably less tire grip and, consequently, dramatically reduced cornering speeds and lengthened braking distances.
  5. Do NOT try to make up for lost time/track position by getting super aggressive and making unrealistic, no way in hell, passing attempts.

Lastly,I think EVERYONE (yes, this includes me) needs to read and LEARN from the racecraft guide referenced by Brandon.

Great points. I've found that zooming the map way in has helped me tremendously while in a group. Sometimes I also switch to 3rd person view when I get in a close group as I have a much better understanding of my surroundings. I'm also a non-aggressive driver at this point and care more about others, as I know my skill level/racing knowledge does not allow me to be overly aggressive and I'm content with that right now. It's the ones that are overly aggressive, without the skill level/racing knowledge, that ruin it for everyone.

I'm sorry if I opened a can of worms here. I didn't mean to imply that impatient or poor driving is rampant in the Capp Cup or that anyone is ruining the events. It's just the nature of the beast, GT has always taught us that we have to beat and bang our way past the AI drivers in order to get from last to first and unfortunately that teaches us a lot of bad habits that can be hard to break. I've been as guilty of that as anyone at some point in my online racing "career".

The main thing for all of us to remember is that there's a living person behind the virtual wheel of that car we're going door-to-door with and they will get frustrated or upset when they are treated like an AI driver and shoved out of the way. My main concern during all online events is to avoid contact with other drivers at all cost, even if it means giving up a position. This is racing and I'm not always successful at avoiding contact, some bumping and rubbing is to be expected but everyone should try their best to keep it at a minimum.

But really the biggest thing is to understand that not every corner is a passing opportunity. When you watch racing in real life (especially F1) there are usually only 2-3 corners at any given track where drivers will attempt a pass. If they close on a driver before one of those turns they will stay right on his bumper until getting to the next passing corner, they do not try to pass at every upcoming corner or whenever they see a tiny opening. There are instances where this happens though, see Lewis Hamilton's shenanigans at Monaco and Montreal and then see how the racing/F1 community has reacted to it. He has been blasted from all sides over the last month for trying to make passes on non-passing turns or just simply not using enough patience. I consider myself a Hamilton fan and I think his behavior this season has been borderline shameful, I don't want the same kind of thing happening in the Capp Cup races.

Rant over, we now return you to your regularly scheduled Cappuccino discussion.

Had a front row for the incident that set this ball rolling.

That driver defiantly made an aggressive move resulting in pushing B off the track.

That's where said person needs to throttle back and allow the driver you pushed off his spot back. Mistakes happen. Being aware and trying to resolve this by showing respect to the other driver.

It has become rare in this league to have these incidents. That tells me these mistakes will be less and less.

However I like the "nip it in the butt" idea when these arise though. Keeps it from becoming a serious issue.

Now. Who wants to help us slow guys tune? ;)

I'm not trying to rail on anybody specifically or make an example of anyone, I've tried to refrain from pointing a finger or anything like that. I'm just trying to remind everybody that one of your buddy's from GTP is in that car ahead of you so don't do anything to them you wouldn't want done to you.

We all want good, clean, organized racing that's hard to find in the open lobby's and I want to make sure I can provide that. Personally, I could care less if I'm at the front of the pack or bringing up the rear as long as I'm having some clean, white-knuckle racing with other like-minded drivers. I get more satisfaction from going door-to-door with somebody for 2 or 3 laps without either of us spinning than from setting fast lap or even being at the front. I'd like to think that's why most of us are here in the first place. 👍

I'll post my tune when I get home. What greatly helped me in Elise race - when Wardez posted his corner speeds. So I'll do the same, hope it helps someone.
From memory what I would've considered a decent lap:
T1: ~45; T2: ~68-70; T3: ~85-87; T4: ~72-75; T5: ~90-93; T6: ~45; T7: don't remember, flat-out; T8: ~83-85; T9: ~43-45.

On a different note, I think this track was terrible for the Capp's. I was afraid it might be too long and we'd end up all spread out doing "glorified hot-lapping" (as Lancer put it) and that's exactly what happened.

These cars do much better on shorter tracks so in the future I will stick to tracks that are approx. 1.5-1.75 miles. Autumn Ring is notorious for this even though it's under 2 miles, I'm thinking I will probably replace that with a different track for the season finale, as well as the custom track for Round 4. Shorter, tighter tracks will keep the field closer together and when the leaders do eventually stretch out they will have to deal with lapped traffic which I also think will help keep the field from getting too spread out. This should make everybody's race more exciting and enjoyable. I've spent the majority of all 4 races this season totally by myself on the track and it gets rather boring.

EDIT: Looking at the track maps, I'm thinking London and Autumn Ring Mini might replace the tracks for Rounds 4 and 6 respectively. I'd consider Suzuka East but I'm not at all fond of that track, especially the last turn. There's hardly any braking points on that track and I think on the Capp's it would get boring/tedious.

Sorry I couldn't make the race, I could given B a Capp to battle with out back.:dopey:

Tuesday has become difficult for me to remain online for any amount of time consistently, you guys may notice me logging on for 15 minutes at a time while my baby takes her power naps. :sly:

Baby's always come before games! 👍

Surprisingly I managed to claw my way back to 7th, but for the whole middle part of the race I was by myself in last place, about 15 seconds from the nearest car in front of me.

BTW, 2nd and 3rd posts have been updated with results and points.

Rome circuit seems like it would be good

Rome circuit is my vote

Rome is 2.16 miles, I'm trying to stick to tracks that are around 1.75 miles or shorter so we don't end up with more Cappuccino Parades. I like Rome a little better than London but it's just too long and too straight. London is shorter and has more curves so should keep the field a little tighter during long races.

How about Tsukuba and Cote d'Azur for possible replacements? My $0.02

excellent idea on Monaco!

Also the 3/8 mile left hand oval track would be a blast with tight traffic!!! Huge chess game.

It's still a little too soon for the "T" word...let's just forget we heard that...

Why not Madrid or even Madrid Mini? It's not too long, and has some challenging corners plus speed sections, a pit road *coughLondoncough* and is usually more forgiving to mistakes than Monaco.

He wasn't around for the prolonged Tsukuba sessions so we'll give him a break.......this time! Lol I think Tsukuba was the last time I was able to hang with the front runners, that was 8 weeks ago!! Haha

Madrid is too long and Madrid Mini is just drag strips connected by hairpins, those are the things I'm trying to get away from. I don't like that London doesn't have pits but I do like the course and it's really the only other option that fits the length. We could do Eiger but the Capp is really hard to handle through the switchbacks.
