Wow.... I just read this entire thread. I have to say that TVR&FF; you have to be THE most improved poster. Ever.

I'm just glad that I'm getting alot better at drawing. I usually do American cars and stuff, like El Caminos, Ford Rangers ( A mix between the Thai Ranger, and the F-150.

I love drawlings. :dopey:

I wish I could combine Exigeracer's shading skills with Racecar's perspective.... I also wish I could do drawings as clean as either of them... And I've actually seen a noticeable improvement in your work, Exige. Good job!

here it is, the first of my Viper GTS-R pics. I decided to start with the rear so that I could get a good idea for how I'm gonna shape the front.
I've started my second one and I should be done with it friday.

@ Joey D: Thanks. 👍

Of course it doesn't beat pen and paper, but it's faster for other things I do in Photoshop and Illustrator. My desk sits too high up though, so it's a bit hard to do long, flowing strokes. Plus, undo is very useful. :D

Yes. True.

I did a Nismo 380ZX drift car sketch today... I think it's really good. The ellipses aren't perfect, I did way too many decals and vinyls, and I still need work on shading some things like reflections, but I think the perspective should be really good, and I paid attention to the symmetry of the vents and spoiler, roof scoop, intercooler etc. I mean, I did all the constructions and everything...

I'll upload it as soon as I get a chance.

I got to scan mine... I'm spotting some weird things with the proportions but can't figure it out... and Exigeracer, I know that the headlights are at different heights. The front is supposed to look like an S15 Silvia Aero's or 180SX.. whatever it's called... but I wasn't looking at a picture so it's not so good... The back is a 350Z. The whole thing has a widebody kit. It's meant to be a drift car. I think I did pretty good on this, but it would look a lot cleaner on blank white paper...

ogtta? :P

Sorry for the baaaad quality pic, but here's something I've been working on. Just a little more to go...

Done using regular A4 paper and a 2B mechanical pencil. :( I need some pencils!

Thats a nicely detaled close-up, wouldn't you agree exigeracer?

Very well done. It's hard to tell with that quality photo of the drawing, but did you use blending stumps? It seems pretty smooth in some spots, but also rougher in others. The wheel is excellent, onbviously the focal point of the drawing, and it doesn't disappoint.

You would benefit from a varied range of pencils. Things like getting rid of outlines, for instance, would make the drawing much more realistic.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take? Your process is a whole lot different than mine because you're using a grid technique.

👍

No, I did not use blending stumps. For the body I just tried smudging using my finger to get it looking smooth, and yes, for some parts (windows, intake sides) I did not smudge.

What kind of pencils would you suggest I get?

I didn't really keep track of how long that took me, I worked on it over the span of a few days. If I had to guess, I'd say in the region of 6 hours+?

I have a high set of pencils (B-9H) and a couple single pencils, 2B or 4B, which are plenty dark for drawing cars.

The set shouldn't run you more than 15$, and they're hard as hell so you won't be buying a replacement for years.

I haven't done any drawings for several years, and friends & family
always told me I should turn it into a career.

I just saw it as a hobby.

Seeing some of these great sketches makes me want to get mine out again.

If I can find some of my old drawings I'll scan them in.

Well my career track is to become a designer, whether it is a car designer, web page designer, packet designer etc. This was a "doodle" I did whilst travelling in a car. It isn't brilliant but I would appreciate tips especially as my dream job would be to become a Car Designer. Any comments are welcome.

This was slightly editted in photoshop to brighten up the lines (I did them very lightly)

I don't know if any of you guys saw the competition that ran about a year ago on 5th Gear. I entered that with this....

It was actually shown on the programme as one of their favourites. Now looking back at it, it wasn't brilliant remind me know of the Ford S-Max. All comments on both of these drawings are very welcome.

No, just make the front and rear overhangs closer to the wheels, or make the wheels farther out, and not necessarily bigger wheels, but rounder.. they're a bit lopsided.. also make the pencil strokes smoother.
