Looks good, but get some value contrast in there before you finish it up. It will make the drawing pop. I'd wait 'til the end for the softer graphite, oftentimes it rests lightly on the paper and if you're working a lot on it, you don't want it smudging around your drawing.

Looks great so far.

Thanks for the advice exige :). I did use a lack of contrast on my previous Aston drawing... so hopefully this will turn out a bit differently. There will be a dark shadow on the left of the car, which covers half the grill, so the grill isnt final ATM either.

Here is a quick update: Those headlights will look alright once the rest of the car is darker :)

Oh wow, my little blueprint style profile drawings look so... bland next to some of you guy's stuff :P
Well, the only reason I really draw is to save my ideas, because otherwise I would forgot lol
I also tend to use my drawings as blueprints for when I make the ones I like enough 3d. Anyway here is another simple little design:

Like always click for bigger pic...

My holidays have just started, so I'm back into the drawing again... This is just a bit of an update. Managed to do the wheels today, which were quite tricky to draw correctly. They still have their faults, but at least I'm happy with them. đź‘Ť

Now it's time to start the background. A few things on the car will need correcting also.

Nice design, Venom. Reminds me of a Tommy Kaira đź‘Ť

Holy S***!đź‘Ť Thats Incredible, though kinda dark.

i think its dark because it was taken from a camera maybe, scanning it would probably be better.

But Damn Nailed those reflections and everything.đź‘Ť

Now try drawing a car from scratch and apply reflections, its a lot harder without a reference. ;)

endulge, Acutally don't endulge. The rear, mainly near the left lamp, something is missing.. same with the area near the front wheel.

^dOOd... lose the lens flare. That's a nOOb move.
Nah... You think?... :dunce:

:)

jaco - Awesome, awesome, awesome!
The way you caught the reflections on the front fender (especially), the work and realism of the headlights and the fantastic wheel blur (much better than some can do on Photoshop) is just...wel...awesome! đź‘Ť

Nah, not too dark, too light! I can't see any values or contrast. I think it may be the "scan" though.

If I have time on Wednesday I'll scan some sketches from my books. This semester was especially busy, so didn't get very much constructive car work done.

It's unnecessary and adds pointless crap when you're presenting a concept. If you're work can't stand without it well, start over. I don't know what else to say.

In more detail, your reflections and other fictional lighting effects can be overdramatized to play out lighting. Simple stuff like any body above waist is white or don't draw the bottom half of your wheels, just the spokes, or tiny guache highlights here and there all work great to get that lighting contrast that will benefit your drawing.

Thanks for the comments before :)
I finished the drawing and posted it on deviantart within the last hour... so here it is đź‘Ť:

Because these were taking by a camera (no scanner), I needed to adjust the contrast and brightness a bit. I'm not sure how it would look on a standard monitor, but on my LCD, it looks ok.

I don't think I'd forget about something as big as a headlight. Both headlights are off... The cars left headlight is just covered by the bright reflection of the sky.
As for the drifting, I think it looks pretty close to the real picture... unless you would consider that that car is drifting. Dunno, I'm no professional... and this is my first attempt at drawing such a photo.

well, looking at the refrence pic, the right one is fine. The lef one I could easily correct. Just move the top of the headlight down to a lower angle.

I don't quite understand/see the headlight error you are talking about, Stiggy. And it will be quite difficult to correct... I don't want to risk smudging anything with an eraser.

Listen, I am not insulting your work, not by a long shot. I'd fail almost instantaniously if I tried that. All I'm noticing is that the top of the left headlight is not on the same plane as the right one. If you compare the original to the drawing, looking at the headlights, you'll see what I mean.

Oh, no… I knew you weren’t insulting my work. Don’t worry about that. I just didn’t understand what you were referring to exactly. I can kinda see what you mean now… but I don’t think it’s a real biggy. Maybe when I get better over the years, I’ll spot and correct errors like that. But for now, I think I’ll call that a completed drawing :)

Thanks for the comment Tangled Web đź‘Ť

Jacoja.... that is... I reckon all your hard work has payed off. I don't see much wrong with both headlights, the ref pic itself looks slightly off in the first place đź‘Ť

When you see a mistake in a finished drawing, just remember it and improve for the next. đź‘Ť

Very good Aston... man its been AGES since I last posted here, maybe someone barely remembers me.

Your copying on the Aston is cool, very difficult picture to reproduce, good manoeuvering of pencil with the blurs in the wheels, its not easy to do that correctly... what gets me most is the gradientson the reflections, your pic looks way more alive than the reference thanks to higher contrast.

As someone said before, now try to draw without a reference or dont copy a car, draw it from scratch then apply the reflections with a reference picture, you indeed have the talent to do it.

I think I'll be posting something up soon, as soon as I install the new HDD I'll scan some random doodles I have laying around... this thread just inspired me to come back to GTP, and that's quite relevant.

Hah I remember you for sure. We used to post together on the same 3 boards just by coincidence: GTP, Automotive Forums' Drawing section and Car Design News. I only did a couple months at AF, I've since dropped off the map at CDN, but I've been actively posting on GTP for almost 5 years. I can't wait to see your work.

mmmhhh, I never posted on Car Design News (and if I did I dont even remember, mwehehe) and I posted in automotive forums for the VW concours in wich Trosley was judge, but nothing else.

In GTP it had been a while, but now here are some already scanned stuff I had lying around the PC:

Troy Trepanier's Sniper, done for the mag I work forabout three years ago:
sniper.jpg

Stone Woods & Cook Willys done for same mag, for an article I did on hot rodding history:

stonewoodscook.jpg

Then a horrible pro-street GTO for same article:

progto.jpg

As it is a ricer mag (Maxi Tuning Mexico) the cars are pretty horrid, and every january I get to cartoonize the 12 cover cars of the previous year for a calendar-poster, here are two of them, the NFS patroll RX8:

patrulla.jpg

And the Carbon Creations demo Mustang:

rustang.jpg

All these done with ballpen and then colour pencils with a little photoshop trhown in, specially the last two, those are from last year.

there, I'll post more once I scan more stuff.
