Look at the Man sitting there to make sure you don't go over 5 mph... lol

Nice. Is that something they do every year during indy500 week or was this something else?

I think they do it every year on Community Day, the Wednesday before the race. Best $10 I've ever spent! They might be doing it again this Saturday too, during Legends Day. It really was quite thrilling, I could almost feel the ghosts of racers past flying by me....and I was utterly shocked at how wide the track is. I've been to this place approx. 25 times and thought I was done being shocked by the size of this place but once on the track you feel like a grain of sand on the beach.

Here are a few better shots.

EDIT: Is anyone else going to the Indy 500? DSG and I are going to meet up in the infield for a Smoked Turkey Leg and a beer.

That's pretty cool Brandon. Well worth it for just $10! Great shots as well....Almost looks like I'm in the game. I would love going to this but it's quite a ride for me. 👎👎

Great race in Indy today, that new Dallara chassis drafts like GT5. Lead changes every lap, massive drafting, and the announcers were saying whoever is in P1 on the last lap is a sitting duck (unless it finishes under yellow). And it was the first Indy 500 in history to be graced by the presence of DSGERBC!

A good hat is normally a must, didn't really need it today though. I bet there was some kinda GTP meetup at the track, shoulda looked into it or arranged it.

I was Trans-Aming it this weekend. Nearly a washout, small turnout. Most of the qualifying sessions were cancelled Friday so grid was determined by points. F2000s prpduced the best racing of the weekend. Of course today was the nicest so far but no racing on Sundays so I took the bike out instead.

I'll be on to do some driving in a half-hour or so and warm up for a local event tomorrow.

Well, the part has been ordered but I haven't received tracking info so I'm not sure when it will arrive. Hopefully I'll be back up and running in a week or so, presuming everything else with the wheel has survived the multiple surgeries.

So, if everything works out and the wheel comes back to life, how should we proceed? We all know now that the end of GT5 is for sure near as we have about 6 months until GT6 comes out, at which point I expect to see GT5 attendance all but halt. This most recent format worked out ok but attendance dwindled down to almost nil due to general low interest in GT5. Over the last couple weeks I've been browsing other groups and it seems almost everyone is seeing very low turnouts.

Personally I'd like to introduce some of the parity formula that JP and WRS have been using but in a way that sticks to our underlying theme, i.e. no tuning. The power limiter can still be used under no tuning so it should be possible to have everyone get their car(s) running approx. the same lap time which should make things more enjoyable for a lot of people. It also opens up the door for people to race however they want, with or without ABS, with the clutch or with the paddle shifters or with an automatic. In theory that should attract a few more people.

To go along with that, I've always wanted to recreate some of the world's greatest races and we have the ability to do a lot in this area. The Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500, modern LeMans, vintage LeMans, the 24hr of Daytona, the 24hr of Nurburgring, CanAm at Laguna, U.S. Grand Prix at Indy Road, a variety of NASCAR races, 8hr of Suzuka, 6hr of Spa, (obviously we wouldn't be doing 6, 8 or 24 hours of racing but could use the same cars/tracks) it really is a long list and I think some of these would certainly attract some people. We could have one big race every 3-4 weeks with several smaller practice races during the weeks leading up to the big event. I think this could be a good way to hold us over until GT6 arrives, and hopefully it would get a few more people on the grid.

Thoughts? Is anybody even still interested in doing some kind of organized racing over the next 6 months?

Infrequent feature races +some practice soulds ok. Advertise feature ones in the 'spot race forum' to get some more people. Now sure how regularly I'm gonna be available. Pretty busy schedule all summer. Might pop in once in a while.

Id be down for races or practice either on a schedule or following a random patter. I also think interest will be up as soon as GT6 comes out, at least after everyone gets over whatever is going to be wrong with it.

I'll be on this evening somewhere a little before midnight. If anyone is going to be round and want to do some driving just post in here.

PS: I'm in the lounge for a bit.

PPS: Gone Gone Gone

Advance apologies for the multi-post, however necessary for folks to see this.

I'll be on in 15-20 minutes to run some laps in preparation for a race tomorrow if anyone would like to join. I'll edit this post when I am in the lounge.

Edit: I'm now in the lounge.

And I'm out.

I hope the wheel surgery goes well & you're back in action again soon.

As for organised racing, I'm out until GT6. There just wasn't enough folk turning up on Saturday nights to make it worth my while. I've been running casual Shuffle/Spec rooms & getting full grids of 12, & even up to 15 on track when the room's set to 16 players. Have been running with penalties off plus Heavy damage & everyone was behaving themselves, although I usually run with damage on light. If you see my room & wanna join in sometime you're all welcome. The room name is; FIA_Clean-Pro, Stock."

Anyone interested I'm doing Nurburgring Races on Thursday at 9pm EST. yesterday we did the FR-S/BRZ/86GT one lap and two lap races. Some evening into night. Some rain. Then switched to Recommended garage.

Ill prob get a line up sorted for this week.

Most likely use the three cars slated for Sunday night SNAIL event.

Pontiac Solstice, BMW 135, and NSX RM

It will be PP and drivetrain capped. So any cars in that fit will be welcomed. Hope to see some of you at the Ring. Cough Marcus.

I guess the part is coming from Thailand, and according to tracking it still hasn't left Thailand. It doesn't give an estimated arrival date yet, so I guess it won't be anytime soon. I'm hoping I'll still remember how to put the wheel back together. :nervous: I don't have a whole lot of faith it will work even with the new part so I'm considering getting a new non-G27 wheel. Any recommendations, preferably around the price of a G27?

I'll stop in from time to time. I've been keeping odd hours lately, and most of my GT5 time has been in the 2-6AM timeslot. It's lent itself well to my new interest in drag racing.

I recommend this to anyone looking to go faster. When you drive on the ring there is so much variation in corner angles, camber, elevation change and lap-to-lap condition changes(there is less grip in the shadows, check it out) that it really develops a driver's ability to adapt. You won't even notice it, as the course is very visually stimulating and despite the high average speeds it is a very technical course. If you get good at running the ring; you'll be good anywhere. A lot of the fast guys cut their teeth in the mountains.

That is really unfortunate. In your position I might consider looking around Craigslist for a local used G-series. When the bearings eventually became intolerable in my G25(probably over 500hrs over the years) I found a barely used G25 locally for a great price. The average user isn't going to have much time or use in a wheel, and in your case doing so you'd have a ton of spare parts for the future. Also, most of them for sale privately can be had for a song because the typical seller is going through a lifestyle change(college, moving, marriage) and needs it gone. Personally I love the G25, which is one of the main motivations for me to find one used rather than buy a new G27 as I don't care for the fat spokes and additional buttons. The other option I would consider would be to adapt a DFGT to your G-series pedals(you aren't going to find better pedals unless you go big $$$, honestly) or run a stock DFGT. I don't care for Fanatec(hate all you want, they make some nice stuff but it doesn't take a beating like a logitech) and the additional adjustments a lot of the 'higher tier' wheels like Fanatec and Thrustmaster more often than not add complications to the driving experience and like tuning a car some people tune themselves right off the map and go slower. The bottom line for me is that for the price of a g-series wheel you can't duplicate it.

That's not such a good idea imo, because it's a lot off hassle to wire it all up (see video). However, Fanatec sell an adaptor for under $5 so that you can use their wheels with the G25 pedals (see link). You'll be able to use the clutch aswell, if you wired a DFGT you wouldn't be able to. My advice is to buy a seperate Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2 Wheel ($179.95 new) with the adaptor, & use your existing G25 pedals. Then give your pedals the NIXIM V2 brake & clutch mod (see pic), & you'll be back in business! You'll also have the option of upgrading with Fanatec Shifters at a later stage.

Hope that helps. 👍

EDIT: Apparently the Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2 Wheel comes with a "G25/G27 pedal adapter cable (15 cm/6 in.)" already included, so you wouldn't even need to buy the adaptor!

Not to sound like like a jerk but are all of these wheel fixing shenanigans easier than getting used to a controller for a couple weeks?

If it wasn't for good quality force feedback wheels, I'd never have bought any GT game or even a Playstation, that's what sold it to me. Enjoying the simulated physics through a wheel is the best part of GT for me & many others, I wouldn't even consider playing it with a pad.

There's no shenanigans in Brandon buying a replacement wheel & plugging in his old pedals, is there? That was a rhetorical question by the way! :P

^ That. It was getting hard to find the motivation to even race with the wheel, so not really interested in learning the controller (no offense to DS3 users).

The Fanatec option sounds very interesting, if my G27 doesn't survive surgery that's likely the route I'll go. Thanks mate.

You're welcome! Here's hoping the new part does work & it saves you a few dollars. :)

By the way, do you have the NIXIM mods installed in your pedals.

Yes I do and they're inverted in a custom built box, really love them.

Nice one! :D Mine are bolted to my Playseat Evolution, works for me.

Well, the part arrived today and after surgery the patient did not recover. Time of death: 19:49 EDT. So, I guess it's time to start researching this Fanatec wheel and make sure they work ok with the G27 pedals. Anybody have experience with Fanatec? Dsg, don't you have one? I'll admit, I'd like the FFB and steering range adjustments on the wheel.
