My condolences...

Now take it out and go all Office Space on that 🤬!!!

Well, the part arrived today and after surgery the patient did not recover. Time of death: 19:49 EDT. So, I guess it's time to start researching this Fanatec wheel and make sure they work ok with the G27 pedals. Anybody have experience with Fanatec? Dsg, don't you have one? I'll admit, I'd like the FFB and steering range adjustments on the wheel.
edit: this is not needed with wheel listed below-

^it comes with an adapter that will let the G27 pedals work with it. :sly: It's nice to know I can make the shifter work too, probably won't worry about that for a while. I'd love to get the Clubsport sequential shifter down the road though, and maybe the pedals too. For now I'm just gonna get the 911 GT3 wheel, it's not too salty at $179 and sounds like it will be a real nice upgrade. Much stronger feedback and lots of customizing options for sensitivity and such, should feel much better than the G27 (which has very weak feedback on GT5). Luckily I just got a nice raise at work last week so this will be a nice way to celebrate. 👍

The new clubsport shifters are dead sexy! Actually, all of the new clubsport items are... That BMW replica wheel gets me quite excited too.

If I had the cash flow I'd totally be a cock and play GT5/6 with a setup like that.

Condolences on the wheel. Congrats on the raise.

911 GT3 is a nice wheel, heck I'd like my CSRE to have that much Alcantara.

I hardly ever use any adjustments. Just set them once. Steering range adjustment could probably be useful for drifting, but pretty useless for regular stuff. FFB 'adjustment' is done in a weird way. If you set it at 50% it won't cut all the FFB in half, it will just cap max FFB at 50%, hence everything below 50% stays the same, just the top gets cut off. Really weird feeling.

The wheel itself is important, but I'd say the biggest improvement in experience is from load-cell pedals. I'd go for those before a nice shifter.

I hear Fanatec cut their warranty down to one year. Nothing you can do about it, just keep that in mind.

It's been ordered. No shipping info yet and I can't tell if it ships from 'Merica or Europe so not sure how long it will take. But at least we know I will for sure be back up and running soon! The bonus is that my desire to race will be renewed since I'll want to play with my new toy. :sly:

I am excited about it, the Fanatec appears to be a very nice piece of kit with some neat features. It's going to feel different enough and have better force feedback so it will make everything about GT5 feel kinda new again. Should be fun!

Congrats. My buddy loves his GT3 wheel.

^ Have you ever used it?

Before I got my T500. But truly don't recall it much about it. The rig he had a ticket chair that really took away from using it. He's got a custom chassis rig now with proper seat.

He's came over and used both G27 and T500. Says it way better then the G27 but not quite as good as T500. Difference wasn't enough for him to switch to a T500 though.

You will be very pleased with it.

I think I will be. At the very least I won't have to worry about a self-destructing piece inside just waiting to fail (like the G27). 👍

I'd like to see what went wrong with your G27. Also my buddy with my old may be interested for a parts unit.

Check this thread and you can follow the journey. SPOILER ALERT: The lead character dies in the end. The last few posts have most of the info. Basically a piece called the "encoder wheel" is made out of plastic and cracks start to form which causes it to not do right. I replaced it with a nice metal part but I must have damaged some other crucial part during surgery because now it won't spin on startup to calibrate itself. It tries to but only moves about 5degrees and then stops. It can probably be salvaged, I'm just tired of messing with it.

Crap. I just found out this won't be compatible with GT5 until I replace the Porsche emblem with a RUF emblem.

Just got the tracking info on the wheel, it's expected to arrive Tuesday. I had it shipped to my work so I won't miss the FedEx guy. :sly: So, if all goes to plan I'll be around this Tuesday for some racing if anyone's interested. 👍

Prepare then. Here's one thing you never did to G27: hook it up to your PC. With Fanatec you'll be doing it once in a while. To upgrade your firmware. So google what the latest and greatest 911 gt3 firmware and how to install it so that it doesn't take you too long to do it on Tuesday ;)

It should come with the newest firmware, according to what I read. If not my laptop is about two feet from the main PS3 so not an issue.

I'm itching to race, really excited for the new wheel. It's still scheduled to arrive Tuesday, hopefully I'll be on by early evening around 6pm EDT. The G27 died before I got to race the Cappy, I'd be up for giving them a go if anyone will be interested

Crazy.

It'll be good to be back turning corners again. I haven't been on much at all, but what little I have has been spent doing mostly muscle drags. I've actually learned a lot from it, but I'll have to relearn how to turn again. I'll make an effort to be there Tuesday; that's right about my wake-up time these days.

Oh my, I'm gone for a few weeks and you have to resort to drag racing?? I hope my wheel gets here soon.....for your sake!!

Drag racing is a blast. More so in real life but still a good time. Kinda social and can be competitive on GT5.

Haha I actually started off at the drags. Only in my later years did I start going around cones for fun instead. I used to run brackets in the pre-electronics days. No delay boxes, hell transbrakes weren't everywhere yet. It's all very different now. The last motor I built still sits bagged in assembly lube in the next room. The car it was for was sold when I stopped racing for a couple of years before I came back briefly in street cars before leaving the drags all together. It's been 10 years since I've set foot on a strip. It's a different type of racing. Not just the driving, but the entire environment, atmosphere, and people. I'd been around road racing my entire life, and a lot of family members raced, and a couple still do. The world was different then. Not much, but a little. I'd go back in an old timers class with vintage equipment, but I don't care much for where the sport went, even at the entry level. Club racing went the same way, and in less than 10 years I see Solo doing the same thing. If there's a local strip, I highly recommend taking a look as many of them have open drags one or two nights a week where you can go and run a Ford Taurus if you like. There used to be one within a hundred miles of almost anywhere in the country. Most of the old ones you can now visit when you go shopping or drive through a 55+ housing development.

In GT5 drag racing is more like old school street racing. Ghosting instead of flashlights or rags or stoplights, no timing equipment, no regulation. It's fun and addictive if you find the right place to go. That's the hard part.

I'm trying to force myself to get some time in on GT5, but the weather has kept me busy with other matters. I've only been on maybe 3 times in the past week for a half-hour each and the drags are a quick fix.

I'm going to make an effort to get some track time this week as I'd like to join you Tuesday and run the ring on Thursday.

My rig is still in pieces, may or may not get to it later today. So I'm probably not gonna be back up and running by tomorrow. Have fun, guys.

The Fanatec landed in Indy this morning, scheduled to deliver sometime today. I'm giddy, like it's Xmas morning!!

Hearing reports of a UPS or FedEx truck on fire on I-69 NB near Pendleton... Hope your wheel isn't on board. :sly:
