Hearing reports of a UPS or FedEx truck on fire on I-69 NB near Pendleton... Hope your wheel isn't on board. :sly:

UPS OR FedEx, huh? Covering all your bases? :sly:

DSG, are there any other game/wheel settings I need to know for GT5? I've been trying to find Info for that but haven't really found much.

I'm guessing that in-wheel menu is similar, so here's what I use for GT5

Sensitivity OFF (always off for PS3 games, 900 for PC)
FFB 100, this is not a FFB scaler, anything less than 100 just cut-off the peak forces

Shock 80-90, at 100 vibration over curbs is too strong IMO

Drift 0 or 1, 1 makes quick contersteering a bit easier.

ABS 60 (no sure if it does anything with non-CS pedals. CSP would vibrate if brake is applied beyond a threshold
Linearity 0, Deadzone 0 (used to set this higher for some odd GT5 cars like X1 or Evo X, SPR 0, DPR 0.

In game - just FFB=1, but that's me, some people like to wrestle with their wheels ;)

Now if I was in an F1 car and wanted to have less degree of rotation I would adjust the sensitivity, correct? And then I can save that setting and use it just for F1 type cars.

On the ABS, the wheel itself has a motor that will vibrate when the brakes are applied past a certain force, to imitate ABS activation. But, I've read that if this option is on then it will not vibrate with engine acceleration, not sure which I desire more.

Maybe the ABS for a bit. Once you get a feel for where the ABS is relative to foot angle. Turn it off and try other. ;) I'd say ABS always.

In GT5? I have it as "off" always and when I drive F1 cars my on-screen wheel movement seems in sync with my actual movements. If you want more sensitivity I guess you can turn that on and set it to something.

Look what Santa the FedEx guy just dropped off at my work. :dopey:

I was just free-thinking, the only reason I could think of to change the degrees of rotation to something less than 900 would be for something like an F1 car that naturally only has around 200 degrees of rotation. I believe F1 cars in GT5 are still modeled with 900 which is unnatural, so I thought about trying a setting with less rotation on F1/FGT cars. The actual wheels/steering wheel animations on screen aren't accurate.

I could be way wrong about that, just my thoughts and I won't know for sure until I experiment. I pretty much never turn my wheel more than 180degrees and rarely more than 90degrees.

It feels very nice, the wheel is noticeably larger and thicker than the G27, feels more like a real car. Weird that they make you install your own paddle-shifters :boggled: but I already got them on. I'm done with my work for the day, going to try to get out of here and go try it out!

Well, it comes on and I can navigate the XMB but GT5 doesn't recognize it, can't navigate the menus or anything. Guess I'll have to go research how to convince GT5 to allow it to work.

EDIT: Thanks to dsg and the internetz I got it figured out and working. I'm headed online, should be around most if the evening. Feel free to join!

Stopped for some dinner. I can jump back on.

EDIT: The new wheel is good and everything seems to be in working order, though my throttle pedal may be sticking a little bit and I haven't been able to map the buttons yet. So, I'm back in business and I'll figure out where we go from here. I have an idea, just need to nail down the details.

I like the rolling start option, that's something I've always wanted for our road course races. I plan on trying it out, seems easy enough to do. I guess they've been able to do it for a long time, hopefully that means it's something PD won't bother patching. 👍

The double wide rolling starts didn't work very well on Fuji F & Nurburgring GP/F when I tested them in an online lobby. The cars were not evenly lined up like on an oval circuit, some were single file & others double, the distance between cars was not the same either. Maybe that's why they never incuded the option in the first place. I didn't test the single file rolling starts so can't comment on them.

By the way, how you liking your new wheel Brandon?

I had a feeling that something would be screwy with the rolling starts. My understanding of why it's not normally available is because the graphics, physics and interactive elements (i.e. cars) already tax the system memory to almost the breaking point. Asking it to do that one little extra thing is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Why it works (mostly) ok on ovals I'm not sure, all I can think is that's it's only having to render a circle of tarmac with cars only going in circles which would produce less data to handle, freeing up the ability for the console to control the cars for few seconds. I always try to remember that the console only has 200mb of RAM available to any game, that's less than 25% of the RAM in my cell phone which explains a lot of the strange things in GT5. They pushed the limits too far and had to make sacrifices due to a Sony-imposed time crunch. Had they set their initial goals a little bit lower they would have more flexibility with the memory resources, here's hoping they were able to fix all that in GT6.

The Fanatec 911 GT3 RS v2 is a very nice wheel. It's hard for me to give a solid impression of it right now, firstly the base sits higher than the G27 and the wheel itself is larger so the top of the wheel is about 3" higher than before and is squarely in my field of vision. It actually overlaps the on-screen steering wheel perfectly, when I look through the Fanatec I see the on-screen dashboard (with the G27 this was visible over the top of the wheel). Also, their solution for clamping it to the rig is rubbish. I have it on as tight as I can get it but it will tilt front-to-back and if I give it a decent yank it would come right off the rig. So I'm going to have to modify my rig to lower the position and then bolt it on.

The function is great though. The larger diameter really makes it feel more natural (I can actually shuffle-steer with it, couldn't with the G27) and the belt-driven feedback is very smooth and feels a lot more like a real car. The feedback strength is close to double what the G27 provides (from GT5) and can feel bumps on the track that you never detected with the Logitech. Curbs and walls provide much more feedback as well and I have it programmed so that the wheel starts to vibrate when I apply more than 75% brake which is a neat feature. It's subtle but under heavy braking it adds an extra sensory input which is very enjoyable and communicative.

Overall, the physical feel of the wheel and the feedback are enough different from the Logitech wheels that it feels like a whole new experience. I'm really having to re-learn how to race, and for me it's a nice breath of fresh air to GT5. I still can't map the buttons to do what I want (have to use the DS3 for reverse or handbrake) despite following all the instructions I've found, but I'm sure I'll get it eventually. This wheel can be had with a decent set of pedals for around $200 USD, if anybody is considering a wheel purchase this would be a very good choice and is a fantastic deal for that price. 👍

I'm at the track right now instructing, but I'll be running on Sunday in my own car. Beautiful day out.

Might be on GT5 tonite or early tomorrow evening for a spell.

I know of 168 who will be racing this weekend. ;)

I plan on watching as many of them as possible, and probably joining them "virtually". :sly: I watched a documentary on youtube last night called 100 Years of Le Mans, it was pretty good.

I plan on being online later tonight. I've worked 20 out of the last 30 hours so first I'm going to nap for a bit.

And that was about it. Shortly after I posted here there was a wreck on track with an ambulance call and the Police showed up and treated it like a crime scene; measuring and recording and whatnot. That was the end of my day.

Psh... Kids stuff.

I was actually working most of those hours. :sly:

Must be in New Jersey? Hope everyone's ok.

Limerock. I heard injuries weren't major, but the ambulance was gone by the time I got over there. Wasn't my run group, so I didn't see anything until someone pointed out that the track had gone quiet in mid afternoon; which is odd. It is not normal practice, and the first time I've seen it in 30 years here, but I'm told it happened last year at an event I wasn't in attendance for.

Last time I was at an event in Jersey we got shut down in the morning on Day 2 after a motorcyclist was killed elsewhere in the complex by someone unaffiliated with the racing program.

One news outlet reported the driver of the crash today later perished. Nothing is official.

I read recently that New Jersey treats motorsports fatalities as crime scenes.

I'm going to jump online, if anyone's on I'll open the lounge. If not I'm gonna find a lobby. Feel free to join!

New Jersey treats life as a crime scene.

My PS3 is on, but it'll be about 5 minutes before I'm back inside and then I'll be round.
