Challenge Me!

I run slightly faster with the Elise 190 ... Not sure about the T111 ... Then again, I literally spent days tuning the Elise 190's suspension a few years ago whereas I spent less than an hour on the Europa's suspension yesterday and maybe another hour on it from before ...

It's not your imagination, the AI does run faster if you run faster ... it's really annoying :P

I know how a transmission works ...
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1573114&postcount=9
and I disagree that the auto setting optimizes the transmission as well as mathematics and testing ...

Glad the suspension settings helped :)

Thanks for further education on how a transmission works, but once again
I've mis-phrased my statement. :dunce: What I meant to say is that setting the auto-setup level higher will make the actual ratio numbers lower, and vice-versa for a lower setting, so the auto setup does impact the overall
ability customize the settings. When I was setting the individual gears, e.g.
The third one, I couldn't find the exact ratio for the fourth one. and it was the same for all of the gears. But when I set the auto setup at a higher/lower level, The maximum/minimum ratio for an individual gear would change. So that's why I wanted the auto setup number, that number is important for me to set all of your ratio's IMO....

Just tried your setup and it's great 👍
But still didn't got a win :( it seems the faster i am the faster they are...

My best time was 6:05, and best position was 2nd.
europa45os.jpg

My setup was almost as easy to control as yours, but since i wasn't using the maximum downforce i wasn't cornering so fast, and it makes a big difference on this track...

I also compared the Europa with other cars of about same power/weight (Tom'sT111 and Elise 190) and it looks much better than them. Europa's engine seems to have more "life", i guess it's because of it's power/torque curves. It's a fast car for it's class.

When I ran the race with Jmac's suspension settings, I placed third, as you've read, but afterwards I went back to my garage, to look at the europa. And when I read the horsepower number at the left side of the screen,
it read "244hp"! :embarrassed: I wish I had a camera to show some proof, but when I saw that number, I was shocked. I purchased the stage 3 turbo's but never equipped it! Now with the stage 3 turbo installed I tried the race again,
and placed second, but don't remember all of the cars in the field, but the only thing I remember is that the GT-One was in first place. I know it sounds like an odd coincidence, but it actually happended. It's very possible to win that race, you just have to be mistake free in terms of racing line and braking, and have the fastest and most optimal settings and car parts.

Ah, sorry ... I didn't know that ...

Auto setup would be at the default setting then ... Just hit start when in the transmission screen and it will set it all the gears back to the default settings ...

Thanks, Since I don't want to go through the trouble of finding the default setting at the auto setup, I'll just sell the car and buy it again! :D Hey, I've got 4.9 million credits, I can buy just about anything on GT2.

EDIT:btw, does anybody have any more challenges for me? Let's keep this thread on it's original topic!

Sorry for the long wait, everybody. I wasn't expecting it, but my mom was off for the whole weekend and so I couldn't use the pc until today.
Jmac, One of my pet peeves when I'm driving a car in GT2 is understeer, and the Spoon Integra Ttype R has alot of it, especially when entering trail-braking into a corner (hey, that's just my driving style).
Do you know a workaround or can you post your suspension settings to correct the problem? I haven't started the challenge yet.

Most FF cars like to understeer... i usually minimize that by using a softer front suspension setting. I also use an harder setting at the rear to give it some oversteer when entering into the corners :)
Less or no camber at the front wheels also helps to remove the understeer.

But maybe JMac has another way to do it...

hey, no discrimination here bud.
If it looked like I was counting you out, I wasn't. The more (opinions), the merrier. 👍
It's ok, i said JMac could have other way because there's always more than one way to do the same thing, and he already gave us good setups :)

By the way, you could also try an harder front stabilizer. I usually use the other method because i still like to have some understeer when i oversteer too much, to avoid a spin or having to counter steering.

I agree, especially with those big bumps in the banked turns of red rock valley.
I've been testing the car alot and there is better handling, but the car still understeers alot.
I'll try the stabilizer trick right now and shoot back my settings.

I've just finished testing the stabilizer trick worked! 👍 I'm able to achieve faster velocity through the corners (4-5mph faster), and another thing I changed was my driving style. Usually I brake and then accelerate through the apex, but now I have to brake and accelerate, and if I expect to win the race, I have to do just that.

now here's my suspension settings;
spring rate: 60.front 6.0 rear
ride height:90 front 89 rear
damper bound: 5 level front 6 level rear
rebound: 5level front 6 level rear
camber: 1.5degrees front 1.0 degrees rear
stabilizer: 3 level front 4 level rear
toe: 0.00in front 0.00in rear
I'm going to increase the damper rebound level by 1 and then do one more test.

EDIT: Worked like a charm! :D
I'm ready to go racing!

Another trick you might wanna try is switching your parking brake to one of the L or R buttons...depending on whether you're right or left handed. I sometimes like using L2 for the parking brake...it gives an extra advantage to front-drive cars if you learn how to use it sparingly. This way, you can still accelerate with a top button or analog stick while you alter your cornering line.

Red Rock Speedway might not offer too many chances for this to work for you, but a trak like Grand Valley, Autumn Ring...Grindelwäld....any track with good hairpins & chicanes you can use the back tires to pivot your car around here and there and get tighter cornering.

I recently won the Grand Valley 300KM enduro against a Venturi this way. By the end of my race, the front tires were orange and the French supercar was on my tail in the straights, yet I was still able to out-corner the Venturi and won by like 3/10 of a second.

Hey guys, sorry about my absense from the thread, I was too embarrased to admit that I lost the Spoon Integra challenge. One of my pet peeves is losing (and I assume that's all of our pet peeves) I placed fifth with a best time of 1.13.968. Jmac, you did a great job driving that car and I'd like some advice from you, I rarely drive front wheel drive cars in GT2, FR and MR are my favorites. But anyway, I'm glad I made this thread because now I realize how much I suck.
Any more challenges?

Want an endurance for a change?

There's a Ford GT40 in Apricot Hill, 200Km. If you beat him with a Ford Ka, you'll be accepted as Ford's Test Driver :)

Dude, you're on!! I've never tried this but I bet it can be done.

Smoke U: don't worry about losing. After reading so many threads about how easy GT2 is it's nice to read about how it can challenge us. I personally don't mind losing a race unless I do something really stupid or I get bumped by another car. Then I get nuts! If I lose a race cleanly without car slamming or other such nonsense then I accept the defeat.

Yes it can, it's not hard, but it's not too easy either so it should give some fun :)

If Smoke beats this, i'll give him something a bit harder. Increasing difficulty step by step should help him to improve his skills, while keeping him motivated ;)

Well it would be a step up for me. I've defeated this race in a variety of cars including heavyweights like the '67 Mercury Cougar and Mercedes AMG C43 to middleweight cars ('94 Honda Prelude VTEC, '95 Acura Integra GS-R) but I've never tried a lightweight front-drive machine.

I always use sports tires with a racing suspension, too, which keeps tire wear a bit less of an advantage in early laps. I tune my cars with a pound to power ratio of 7.22, which is what a stock GT40 carries, which tends to erase any power advantage. Tho the GT40 is light and a Mercedes is obviously heavier and will get more power with that ratio, the GT40's lack of weight means it has better tire durability, and you'll have to drive strategically to win against it. If I race a Ka, I may upgrade to slick tires, tho.

I'll accept your challenge, and I preferr to be Toyota's test driver, but Ford will do for now. ;)

Ok everybody, I'm currently in the Apricot Hill 200km, driving a 174hp. Ford Ka, and it's lap 10. The Aston Martin DB7 Coupe just went in for a pit stop after getting lapped by me and GT40, which is 15.352, and my best, lap was 1.32.679 seconds.
It's looks like the only chance I have of passing the GT40 now is if it go in for new tires. I highly doubt I'll win the race.

EDIT:It's Lap 16 and the GT40 just made a pit stop, and now I'm just ahead by about 1.5 seconds. It's gonna get ugly! :mischievous:

1:32 it's a slow lap... :guilty: you should do less than 1:30...
Do you have all upgrades and the race modification? What tyres are you using and how many pit stops have you planned?

Yes, I do have all upgrades. Stage 2 turbo kit, super soft racing tires, pro. suspension,
full tranny, basically everything. I usually don't "plan" on pitting, but i'll pit when either the front or rear tires get orange. Would you suggest a pit strategy? What can I do to get faster lap times?

EDIT: I just looked at my best time, and it's not 1.32.679 it's 1.29.679.
My mistake.

If you have all upgrades and you're not doing better than 1:32, probably your setup isn't good enough...

I did that race with a best lap of 1:27.
I also did 2 pitstops (laps 17 and 34) with super soft tires. GT40 won't do more than 2 stops either, i think some of the other cars do 3 stops.

If you run with orange tires (in a FF car will be the front tires the 1st ones to get orange) you won't be able to corner so fast...

Ah ok then, i think you can do it if you do always less than 1.30

EDIT: If you can hold on the GT40 behind you till lap 25, you can go to pit then, since the GT40 will do another pit stop after 25...
