Challenge Me!

I might be able to give results, but because of this "time limit", I doubt if I can. But I'll make some good use out of the time and experiments with the car's settings. I'll do some test run's now.

:odd:
Alright, let me elaborate on this "time limit" that I have, for those of you that already don't know. In the first page of this thread I post a "disclaimer" (if you will), and this said that I won't be able to reply to any post's after 3:30p.m. and the reason why is in that post. You can see it on the 17th post on the first page of this thread.

As for the Spoon Integra challenge given to me by Jmac, I managed to place first on two occasions, here they are:
1; Best lap: 1.10.988
1. Spopon Integra (Total time: 6.06.912)
2. Vector M12 LM +1.747
3. '97 Nissan R390 GT1 LM +2.754
4. Saleen SR Widebody +2.756
5. Saleen SR Widebody +2.842
6. Jaguar XJ220 Race Car +4.167
Easy, right? :)

and here's the second:
Best time: 1.10.508
1. Spoon Integra (Total time-6.03.988)
2. Venturi Atlantique 600LM +0.080, aka right on my ass! :scared:
3. Vector M12 LM +2.175
4. Audi TT LM +2.646
5. Dodge Viper GTS-R Oreca +2.800
6. Jagura XJ200 +4.478

Is that good enough, Jmac?
And if you don't believe me, I'll post my settings (I've made some adjustments to your settings) and let you try for yourself.

Nice one 👍

I had a NASCAR race for you but... it seems the Ford Taurus SHO in NA version doesn't have that cool NASCAR painting. 👎

Anyway, if you wanna do it, take the SHO to the Super Speedway (All Stars). I think it's not as hard as the Europa but it's harder than the Spoon.

Hey guy's, My apologies for the long wait.
Mac, I have to say that IMO this challenge is almost impossible to beat. The highest ranking I got was second place, With a best time of 35.220. The GT-40 Race Car finished in first place. How did you do?

To me this race was easier than the Europa. The car is easy to control and it's an easy track...

Unfortunately i lost the hard disk where i had the screenshot with the race results... :(
but i still have the memcard with the replay, so here's a screenshot where you can see my best/final time and position when i crossed the finish line:
taurus0ka.jpg

And here's my setup:

Spring rate: 9.0 / 8.0
Ride height: 104 /104
Dampers: all at 7
Camber: 1.4 / 1.0
Toe: 0.00 / 0.00
Stabilizer: 5 / 7
Brakes: 20 / 14

Gears:
1 - 2.667
2 - 1.925
3 - 1.471
4 - 1.168
5 - 0.942
Final - 3.200
Auto - 9

Downforce: 0.42 / 0.21
LSD: 56 / 56 / 16

The car is slow, so you need to be drafting on the straights and then pass them when cornering. Drafting is the key ;)

Thanks, I'll try those settings.
I thought drafting couldn't be done on GT2, because I'ver heard that the PS is not advanced enough to generate the physics of drafting. Once in a while I do try to draft (on this challenge), but the cars are to fast, and leave me behind. But if drafting is the key, then I'll gladly experiment with it.

There is definitely drafting in GT2, though it's not very obvious ... If you watched my video where I drafter on the straight vs. when I didn't, my speed was over 6 MPH faster at the end of the straight ...

Unless you actually watch your speed at the end of the straight, you probably won't notice the difference, but you'll probably be able to take off a few tenths ...

ok MacRoadster, I just tried your settings, and no offense, but I had a better chance of winning with my setup than yours. Here, try my setup out:
Spring Rate: 13.7 front 12.9 rear
Height: 104 front and rear
Damper Bound and rebound: 5 level front and rear
Camber: 2.0 front 1.0 rear
Toe: 0.00in front and rear
Stabilizer: 3 level front and rear

Gears:
3.083
1.994
1.411
1.064
0.854
4.100
Auto Setup: 9

Downforce: 0.42front 0.70rear
LSD:
Initial torque:56
Acceleration:56
Deceleration:56

The highest rank I managed to achieve was 4th place with your setup, but I'll practice with it some more and post my results tommorrow.

Yours is easy to control but i still make better times with mine.
The full front wing and no rear wing is what makes mine harder to control, but it's ok to me.

I have longer gear ratios and less downforce which gives an higher top speed.

If you can't control mine then i think you should try your suspension/downforce settings with my gearbox, just with an higher final ratio because you have more downforce.
My gearbox has a long 1st gear (good to starts), and the longer ratios are better for drafting. Also, if you notice the maximum power is at 6400rpm, with your gearbox you're most of the time at higher rpms than that. Looking at the power/torque curves you can see that the car has better power/torque before 6400rpm, so your gearbox isn't taking the best from the engine...

While I was absent from the boards yesterday, I've adjusted my settings and made modifications, and now the car feels alot faster. The car is still easy to control, but the car can achieve higher velocity through the corners. I'll post the setup later.

As for the challenge, they is still no luck for me. The closest I got to winning was when I was competing against the Viper GTS-R, R390, and Venturi Atlantique (I'm not sure what the actually line-up was). It was in the first corner when all four of us took the corner at the same time. I was going to go for the inside line in order to block the Viper and advanced my rank and hopefully secure a win. But little did I know the Viper was already beside me and was moving ahead of me! After all of that carnage, when I approached the last corner, I passed up two cars to secure second place, but still no win.
Oh btw, that was with my new setup.

What's your best time ? This competition was actually really close between us (6:05.959 for me, 6:06.552 for MacRoadster) with very different settings ...

It was 3mins, not 6... :P

I think that the small difference means this is an hard challenge, even if the Europa was harder than this one to me...
The different settings show our different driving styles. Since the car has a good/easy handling it allows to be driven fast with many different setups, which is interesting...

I couldn't sleep last night and I posted that at 7:44 am my time ...

You make stupid mistakes like that when you haven't slept in 24 hours :P

Same here ...

I ran 4 of 5 laps (all but the 1st lap) in the 34s with a best lap of ~34.2 and came in 2nd ...

In that race, I changed my setup slightly, and ran low-35s, but won even though I was several seconds slower ...

MacRoadster
That's the best lap, right? I think he was asking the final time...

Something funny is that usually when i win isn't when i make my best times...

lol, Same here. I think it has something to do with the Defensive Maneuvers, they (the defensive maneuvers) slow down the car and we're weaving back and forth trying to defend ourselves from the faster cars.
It is the best lap, but I forgot my final time, I should have saved the replay.
I'm going to try to win the challenge now, and if I don't win with my setup 'ill try MacRoadster's settings.

Victorious! I've finally won the race! Here's the results;
Total Time: 3.06.227
Best Time: 34.850
1st: Ford Taurus SHO
2nd: Ford GT-40 Race Car +0.013
3rd: Vector M12 LM +0.461
4th: Saleen SR Widebody +4.474
5th: Lotus Elise GT1 +3.049
6th: LIsterStorm V12 +4.082

EDIT: As for my setup, I used Jmac's settings with the exception of the gear ratio's, I used mine. All other car part settings were Jmac's. They're on the page just before this one.

Nice one 👍

And the times:
JMac ..... 3:05.959
Smoke ... 3.06.227
Me ........ 3:06.552

All within 0.6sec... and i got the worst time... :(

That's because after i get the lead on 4th lap i made a more defensive driving, to not let the GT40 draft on me, that's why that 35.9s on the final lap.

So... it was really that hard? Harder than the other challenges?

Your slower time probably was due to you doing to many defensive maneuver's, or it could be due to the recoed line you were tracing. On tracks like Super Speedway, Don't forget to trailbrake, and If a car is behind you, protect the inside of the corner, that way your car won't lose any speed because of swerving
If the challenges had ranks, they would be as follows (in Descending order of hardest):
1st: Spoon Integera at RRV
2nd: Lotus Europa at RRV
3rd: Ford Taurus challenge at Super Speedway
4th: Ford Ka at Apricot hill

So in other words, the integra challenge was the hardest for me, and the Ford ka challenge was the easiest.

The Spoon wasn't hard to me, on the 1st attempt with my setup i almost won it (messed up on last corner  ), but were able to win with both JMac's and my setup.
I don't like much of Europa, and probably that's why it was harder to me...

For me it was the Europa and the Taurus challenges ... They both took me several tries to actually win (although my times were actually significantly worse when I actually won) ...

I did the Spoon ITR in 1 try ... Didn't attempt the Ka challenge ...

The reason why the Spoon Integra was the hardest for me is because I don't drive FF cars on a regular basis in GT2. Also, the Spoon Integra's biggest problem was it's massive understeer, so thqat held me back as well. The Europa is an MR, and I love driving those, and always got close to winning before spinning out in a corner. I that sense of challenge with the assurance that you can win the race and push this car to it's limit's without breaking it.
I'm trying to think of some challenges to give to you guy's, but they're probably to easy.

Smoke_U_24/7

I don't think Spoon has much understeer, considering it's a FF car... and it's easy to give it more oversteer ability with some suspension tweaking.
To me, the Integra is one of the most fun FF cars to drive, and a fast one too.

Also, in small MR cars like Europa, i like to have some understeer or else it's quite easy to get a spin with them. If you like small MR cars and don't like understeer... hmm... that might be a dangerous combination...

I also prefer oversteer but i like it more when mixed with understeer... :)

During my time away from the Forums I thunk up some challenges to give everybody, and I even tried them out myself, so here they are;

Mines R34 Skyline GTR at the GT all stars Special Stage Route5 race.

My results:
1: Mines Skyline R34 GTR (total time, I don't remember)
2. '99 GT-One Race Car +0.941
3: Vector M12 LM +2.586
4: Nissan R390 GT1 LM +3.218
5: Jaguar Xj220 Race Car +4.982
6: Alfa 155 Touring Car +8.241

And the other is at the Tuned Turbo Event, also at Special Stage R5. You have to drive the Mugen Civic Typed R, the maximum power with a turbo is around 374hp. I don't have exact results, But I won that one too.

btw, Best lap for the Mines Skyline challenge was 1.17.954 @ 182.45mph.
