The Beetle is the same as a Porsche. Both the first Beetle and the first Porsche were designed by Porsche and shared many many parts. Here is a direct quote from Wikipedia:
"The 356 was created by
Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (son of Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the company). Like its cousin, the
Volkswagen Beetle (which
Ferdinand Porsche Senior had designed), the 356 was a four-cylinder, air-cooled,
rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive car utilizing
unitized pan and body construction. While the 356's body was an original design by Porsche employee
Erwin Komenda,
its mechanicals (including engine case and suspension components)were based on and initially sourced from Volkswagen."
They even look alike. Saying that the Beetle is not the same as a Porsche is like saying that a lion and a tiger are nothing alike even though they are of the same subspecies and close relatives. The Beetle gave birth to lots of other cars (including the first Porsches) and without it I doubt Porsche would've ever been able to afford to design and build their first car completely independently and from scratch.
