So.... how are you able to reverse? If it's anything like a turbine, I'd imagine it'd take some time to reverse.

Unbelievably nuts, but that's exactly what I'd have hoped for and expected from Chaparral. Can't wait to try it out!

Airbus generally make their reverse thrust expel through slats which radiate forwards, unlike how all GE's, RR's, and PW's just slide the nacelle backwards and a reroute of the airflow to go in a bit of a different direction.

However, almost all aircraft with engines mounted on the fuselage just ahead of the vertical stabilizers use a similar method to Airbus engines.... one which we might see:

@notStig ha.. treed

I'm happy to see at least one of the participants have taken the idea and ran with it, even if it is a bit bonkers (not that I don't like the previously unveiled concepts).

I was hoping they would do a modern version of the Fan Car concept as a rival to the X1. This just seems too impossible for me. The X1, Citroen GT and various other VGT hybrids still seem possible in the near future. But laser propulsion just sounds like sci-fi mumbo jumbo to me. I like the car design and overall concept, just not in a GT game.

In any case, since it's coming anyway, I'd like to order one in black with light blue accents please :D /tronreference

So does this magic laser engine result in instantaneous torque (although apparently not applied to the wheels) or does it have to spool up like a normal turbine engine?

IT'S POWERED BY LAZER BEAMZ!!!!!!!

Sorry couldn't resist. :lol: Seriously though, this thing is beautifully insane. GM...you did Jim Hall and Chaparrel proud.

It should provide instant power. I imagine that air will flow over the nozzle continuously, thrust will be controlled by laser strength and pulse frequency.

Just saw this on the front page of the official Gran Turismo website: http://www.gran-turismo.com/

The highlight of the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo which inherits this spirit of revolution, is in its styling and powertrain. The power supply selected for this car is a unprecedented laser propulsion system. The laser beam unit mounted central to the car produces a laser beam pulse which strikes a focusing shroud, and the resulting shockwave produces the thrust which propels this extremely light racing car. With a 671kW laser and air powered generator, this car rises to a top speed of 384km/h(240mph and accelerates from 0-60mph in 1.5 seconds.)
Holy 🤬, best VGT yet.

It'll still be powered by a V8, but with lasers as backup.

I'd like to see you try and fit a V8 up the drivers a** lol

And they never even mentioned a V8, they only mentioned the laser engine, with mathematics they say it converts to around 900bhp, and this car is extremely light too my guess is to be lighter than the Caterham Fireblade, they even said this car has ZERO emissions... hmmm very V8 obviously...

Also adding a V8 to everything won't solve problems, with this car, it would only add problems.
