That is WICKED! Can you provide me with some wiring schematics? I'd like to try something like that. Where'd you get the seat from? Good job man.

Check out the web site for a stand that rocks! www.xlstands.com These stands are also being sold on ebay. For the money you can't go wrong with this stand.

funny you should say that. i have a real Spy Hunter (stand up) arcade game and still works great, that i always wanted to convert to a sit down version! 👍 👍

but w/ limited time i wasn't ever able to. (maybe some day).

my PC racing cockpit comes first! :dopey:

I started out with the idea of building a clasic arcade box. After thinking about the old Pole Position cabinets, I realized they were set up more like driving a school bus than a sports car. It seems like you are stepping down on the pedals rather than pushing them horizontally. I wound up going with a design that is lower to the ground, with the pedals nearly level with my ass. I had to "modify" the pedal stand to accomplish this, as I couldn't get the correct angle I needed to push the pedals rather than step on them.

It is still rather rough (I keep telling myself that I will finish it up, but every time I go upstairs I just want to race, not work on my rig). I'll post pics when I get home.

As promised, here are a few pics of my setup. Please excuse the cat hair under the pedals, that is where she sleeps. Eventually, I am going to cover the outside of it in aluminum sheet and paint it white and add some decals. I am also going to get some automotive carpet for the floor. I have a cheap surround system hooked up to it that I got from Target (i think for 70). The seat is from a 91 civic that I got from my cousin for free (hes a honda mechanic). I took the mounting brackets from the car when I got the seat, so it is fully adjustable. The 2x4's holding the rear channel speakers are also temporary. I'm not sure what will replace them, but the are just too ugly to keep there.

TV = 130
wheel = 150
seat = free
surround system = 70
wood = 65

Not bad.. Seems like your seat is to far back.But i like it. What are you driving a low rider LOL j/k!
-TD
Actually, the seat is really far back. My wife was playing Tiger Woods, and she scoots it back and reclines it while she plays. But I am 6'5", so it does stay pretty far back. I guess F1 racing just isn't in the cards for me. :grumpy:

Here we go with an updated post of my prototype: it's heavy, big but working perfectly...

Just wanted to share and hope it will give you ideas...
That is truly awesome. Love the gauge cluster cutout overlay.

Thanks!

But wait, the final version is in the way.

It will be as strong as this one but a foldable (?) version:
The wheel support will slide against the seat, the gear shift base will slide along the side of the seat and the pedals will slide under the seat (ouf).

Steering wheel will be replace by a wood and aluminium one from the sixties (Momo).

And the design will be lighter and a lot nicer! :)

Pics will follow soon...

nurburgring, could you please cut your signature down to 6 lines? That's the maximum according to GTP guidelines. Thanks.

I have bought a couple of these pre-fab cockpits and they have turned out to be not very stable (ie a lot of steering wheel wobble). I finally had a great idea for a temporary cockpit solution for those with not much space that takes absolutely no work whatsoever.

I was thinking... what's a stable platform, but can easily be folded away? The answer? A Black and Decker Workmate. I tried it out using the B&D Workmake 375 and I have to say it is FREAKIN' AWESOME! No more steering wheel wobble while playing games, and the height is perfect for a regular dining room or office chair.

Check it out...

Go grab one from Home Depot and try it out, you'll be impressed. You can always return it if it doesn't work for you.

Hopefully this is not a repeat post... I'm very excited to have found something so simple that works so well!

Nice! I did the same thing with a $30 Rigid Flip-top, though I modified it a bit to get a really good driving position. But it's the same idea!

Welcome to GTPlanet, Raeldor.

Hey everybody,

I am trying to bring to market a driving cockpit for us with limited budgets. It is called the Monoposto TM. I want to try to offer it at a retail price under $200 with seat, maybe under $150 without seat. Less if the manufacturing volume allows.

The Monoposto TM features a comfortable F1 style driving position. The seat is adjustable fore and aft. The steering wheel panel is angled down to place the wheel in a more natural position. The side tubes hold your legs to prevent them from "splaying".

The Monoposto TM is designed for the new GT PS2 wheel but will accomodate others. The foot pedals mount at an angle and there's a heel rest to prop up your feet for the best position to control the pedals. This heel panel also provides a place fo stash your Playstation.

The Monoposto TM structure is stiff and will not flex under hard use, yet it is lightweight. It can be stored vertical to save space when not in use. The seat is easily removable for transport.

I'm trying to determine market viability and a retail price first. But you can help me out. Tell me what you think and how much would you pay.

I've attached a couple photos.

Hey, that looks pretty damn good ! Nice work...$200.00 would be a price I am sure a lot of people would be willing to pay. Most others are prohibitively expensive for the average video racer.

Speaking of race stands, you guys have to check this out.

www.gtsims.com

it is one of the most stable and rock solid cockpits out there. It was even featured on a talk radio show here in Houston, Texas with "Michael Garfield the High-Tech Texan" on AM 740. You can visit his web site: www.hightechtexan.com for a link. Check it out!!

Its priced around 200.00 with seat, no cover or 250 with seat and cover. It is sometimes on EBAY as well.

Hey, you don't by chance have any affiliation with gtsims, do you? Thanks, but no thanks. If I'm gona pay 250 bucks for a racing stand, it isn't gonna have wires hanging out all over the place. Its also gonna be slightly wider than my fat ass, so when I lean over to get a drink, my whole rig doesn't slam the ground. Assbag.

Gtsims is actually a really good childhood friend of mine (I actually help him design it). The whole thing weights around 38 pounds made of steel, welded, and powder coated, and it is very very sturdy. He is 6'-7" tall, weights around 240-260 pounds (I can send you pictures if you like showing him sitting in it). When he leans over, to get a drink (or rather, grab a beer), it doesn't even remotely tip or as you would put it, "slam the ground". As far as the wires, you can zip-tie it to the frame so that it is not "hanging out all over". He didn't zip tie it, because he wants to put the wheel in the closet when he is done racing. Easy dis-assembly.

BTW, why did you call me "Assbag"?? If I offended you let me know. But there is no need for name calling.

Why this word "assbag"? :grumpy: :yuck:

Very nice and encouraging to be insulted when you bring some nice and interesting new stuffs in the discussion...

Rotarygod, you did a nice job by designing this cockpit... :)

Thats a very nice cockpit for the price rotarygod. Its just a shame they dont ship to Canada :indiff:

Thanks for all the encouragements!! If you want, you can send me your zip code, and I can check on the shipping for you. Just let me know if you are interested.

This is something my boyfriend gave me last night ... a design he has been working on for the last couple of months (he took pitty on the fact that I had to bolt my DFP to a coffee table and squat down on some cushions). One day he took some measurements and last night he delivered this ... it - is - AWESOME!

Aside from being purple with sparkly bits, aside from the fact that his mom painted little flowers on it, the sheer engineering and design that went into it blows me away ... everything is fully adjustable .. height, weidth, steering wheel position and angle ... the whole nine yards.

And the whole lot collapses to be completely flat and lean up against a wall.
