I made some changes to the bypass road and how it connects to the rest of the network. I replaced the big roundabout by the airport with a service interchange.

Another service interchange with a rest stop and petrol station.

I don't know if it's useful for anyone else but I finally found a collection of empty CSLMapViews for every map including the two latest sets that some kind soul made. I find these really helpful to roughly plan out maps on my computer before I get to work on console, where the highways, trains and major features can go.

Example if you're not familiar:
BiomesValley.png

They're only 25 tiles because the person presumably made them for console use just like me. Still useful for any PC players who only use 25 tiles though I guess.

I'm making a new asset, this time it's the fish market from Gothenburg. One of my fishing harbors is complaining about a lack of buyers (i.e. running out of trucks), so a fish market would be good to have. Unfortunately the vanilla fish market is too big to fit anywhere where it would make sense, and I haven't found any decent fish market assets on the workshop so I guess I'll just have to take the matters into my own hands.

The footprint of this building is around 18x40 meters, so it would fit in a 3x5 grid. I found some blueprints online, so it'll be pretty accurate.

Nice idea 👍

At least when you finish it, you'll know exactly where to plaice it...

Ba dum tish!

The fish market is alive! The colour of the bricks is a bit off, but I think it's good enough. I made it a 3x7 grid, to get some extra space in front of the entrance. Ideally, the cargo trucks should deliver the fish on the side of the building, but for some reason I can't edit the spawn point for those with the building spawn points mod, so for now they'll deliver to the front.

Does anyone know if the new airport DLC is available/going to be available on consoles too?

I fired CS up last night after not playing in a while and noticed there was a big update to download first. By the time it had updated i didn't have long to poke around. The game annoyingly kept reminding me to check out the various new transport hubs that were available and i noted that there were some new tree options, but nothing for custom airports. I assumed an add on as substantial as that would be paid for DLC but when i checked the store (PS) there was no sign of it, although the new maps that were announced were. :odd:

It's on console.

Right now it's sitting just above £10 so I can't neatly redeem 2 Microsoft Rewards cards to get it "for free" 😅

Any plans to put it on the workshop @eran0004 ?

Man, I need to get my head around asset creation.
I’ve been tweaking the colours a bit, now I just need to take some nice screenshots and then I’ll put it on the workshop :)

I downsized the textures too, from 2048x2048 to 1024x1024, reducing the size of the asset from 10MB to 3 point something. It seemed more reasonable for such a small asset.

That would be handy. It would fit in with some of my smaller towns better than the vanilla asset.

That's odd. I couldn't see it on the games page (for add ons) on the Playstation Store, nor was it showing up when you look for add ons going via the link in the game's main menu. The new maps and new vehicles DLC was there though.

It certainly should be there, but when you list all the DLC available by the most recent released, you get the maps, the vehicles and then the bridges and piers,

which has been out for months. I wonder if it hasn’t been linked to the main games page for some reason?

Do you have some filter applied to the search? There just seems to be content creators packs and radio stations listed for you, not any of the actual expansions.

No, no filter. This is just the most recent 9 items, Sunset Harbor was just out of shot as you scroll the page.

I finally have enough of a grip on things to have a city actually that functions and makes money. Now that I have the basics down I'm going to start working on the smaller details like bus routes and making the general layout look like I wasn't just placing stuff as I go.

Prepare to be underwhelmed, but...

.. this is (a work in progress, because I only ever post works in progress, and never actually finish anything I start) the first house I ever rented (well, the left half), hopefully it will be the first asset I create for my home town project. I need to do some test texturing before I do any more to the mesh, just to check I'm not doing anything to make my life impossible around the windows (for example). @eran0004, it was the truss work above the front doors that caused me to rage quite yesterday. Deleted them this evening and decided to attack it with a fresh head, worked much better, nice clean geometry.

Looks good! Are you making it useable as a terraced house (i.e. 16 meters wide assuming it fits in a 2x2 grid) or are you taking the actual width of the real building?

It's actually a fraction over 8m so I might try for a 1×2, however it'll work for my purposes at 2×2 as these houses are all on their own plot, rather than terraced. Most have a garage of some sort, though the position of the garage relative to the house varies a lot, so I'll probably model these as separate props.

I know it's not best for all players, but personally, when it comes to residential assets, I much prefer to place props and decals myself, so when/if I share these assets they'll primarily be no-prop versions (i.e. no gardens/fences etc.)

I threw together a brick texture last night, just to see what kind of resolution I'd be dealing with. On a 1024×1024 texture map, a quarter (512×512) given over to the brickwork seemed to give a suitable result (i.e. it's possible to make out every brick). I went to approx 300×300, and the individual lines of mortar just became a blur on the model. The UV unwrapping process which always put me off before, isn't too bad - I just need to generate to reasonable textures now.

I'm reasonably confident I can achieve what I want to, though it's some way off being 'muscle memory' working with Blender - so it'll be a long project!

I stepped away from the city centre for a while. Rather than expanding outwards from the centre I'll focus on creating new districts around the map and eventually let them merge with the city.

Here's an empty piece of land next to the airport. It has good access to highway so it seems like a nice location for an industry.

I went with forestry industry, the layout is inspired by a sawmill I found on Google Earth. Added in some growable forestry buildings as well. All the raw materials are imported, I might add some plantations near the map edges.

The base of the monument is nearly done. I need to fix the top of the columns though, they look a bit weird.
I found a great reference here, it's a highly detailed 3D model of the monument, makes it easy to see all the details :)
