Classic American Muscle Championship - The Dawn of Season 2 In Session

Sorry, I already claimed that beauty. She's mine, so choose another car.

Rats !
I misread the table and thought you had the Charger :dunce:
I will let my teamate select the Car, so I do not embarass myself any further
( still want no. 69 though ).

I'm in, but have yet to decide on my ride.
I can tell you that it won't be a Cobra or Corvette.

When you say "Mufflers, engine, turbo, and transmission parts are the only legal upgrades", does that mean any engine and transmission parts including chips and carbon driveshafts? Personally I would exclude those while still allowing port polish, engine balance and LSD, but it's your call. The fully custom gearbox however is a must have when you consider that one car is restricted to 106mph on the stock box while another can hit 154mph!

This is shaping up to be more balanced than you might think - especially if nobody takes the fastest or slowest cars. Testing the rest in arcade mode and using the quicktune to get as close to 350hp as possible, there is just 4 seconds per lap seperating everything else.

Yeah, we need a quick clarifiction of the upgrade rules so people can get to racing. If you change the first post, make a post letting us know when to reread the rules please.

I took the rules (as written in the first post) to mean any and all mods from the exhaust, engine, transmission and turbo areas are legal as long as the car does not exceed 500hp.

Didn't see anything regarding suspension/brakes/weight reduction so I left them stock.

^As the rules are written you would be correct, but the initial reluctance towards gearbox changes suggests to me that Crooooooow wanted to keep the cars as stock as possible except in the power department. That would outlaw the use of upgraded clutch, flywheel, and LSD as well as the suspension and brakes.

Initially he said no to trans modifictions, but it appears he added them to the list of "legal" upgrades sometime yesterday.

So the real question is what does Transmission modifications include -- Just the customizable transmission, or the clutch, flywheel, LSD and Carbon Driveshaft too?

I'm tempted to join this competition.

I'll take the '64 GTO if it's not already taken.

Why soitenly, Curly. :sly:

A clarification update to remove the entanglements.
Any exhaust, engine (except turbo), turbo, and transmission parts are the only legal upgrades, as well as tires.

G'Day all,

Okay, my team mate oldmodelt and I have decided to enter :

Team : oldtimers

Shelby Cobra 427 1967

Car Number 69

Prepare to be fanged, you whippersnappers ;) muwahaha

Slight problem,

Last night I built a GTO and was running some practice races, when I got the red spiral. I restarted the game and that seemed to work until I got the red spiral again. After that I couldn't get the game to load at all.

I can get other games and dvd's to load so it doesn't appear to be a ps2 problem. Just the gt4 disc.

I tried a disc cleaner but it didn't work. May have to look for another copy next time at the store.

Disc Cleaners are notoriously bad for making things worse. Use room temp tap water rubbing with your fingers from the center out to the edge to get rid of any residue streaks. Then dry from the center to the edge with a soft cloth preferably one without any residue in it, like soap. Also remember to dry the edges and face of the disk.

You may have to do this a couple of times to remove layers of residue from disk cleaners and other things.

@Adamgp, it could easilly be a PS2 problem. As GT4 is on a dual layer disk, a dirty or poorly aligned laser lens will usually stop reading GT4 before any other disks. If you are comfortable dismantling the PS2 you could get many more months of use from it after a good clean.

I have now decided on my weapon of choice. A Plymouth Super Bird #58 for me. I should even be able to run it with minimal changes for the first few races.

That would be plan B if cleaning the disc with warm water doesn't work.

I did move recently and although I tried to be careful with the ps2, it is possible it may have taken a few hits during the move.

Opening it up would be a weekend project.

Is it a fatty or a slimline. The fatties are pretty easy to dismantle, and there's a good guide that I can dig up for you somewhere if you'll be needing it. It has good details and, importantly, pictures that describe everything perfectly.

Looks like I waited too long to pull the trigger on the Super Bird.
I think I'll have to take the 'Cuda (#42), although December has suddenly turned out to be way busier than expected and I'm going to have to make trips to Oregon & Utah, so time may not be on my side. Will let you know for sure later.

If you want to team up I can work on the setups while you are busy with work leaving you to help pull in the points and beat those oldtimers in their Shelby Cobras.

I will wait for Smallhorses response to your request, before making an addition to the list on your part.

I was deciding to postpone the deadline to mid January, because of holiday travels for everyone. I hope this will give you enough time to finish the season.

Sounds good! I like this idea, the old-timers in the Cobras and us mid-lifers in the Super Bird! I'll check tonight to see what shape my Super Bird is in, it's probably unmolested knowing me, just 10 or 20 miles on a stock chassis with Drivers aids turned off, or I'll pootle off and win another if it's been tuned in any way so I can start afresh. I can probably trade an unused one off my "Perfect Game" save too, as I know that one hasn't been driven. I think it's the evil all-black one too! Muahahahah!

It should be fun to have a decently tuned engine and transmission in this beast, but still maintain the soggy, roly-poly standard suspension and spongey brakes!

Crooooooow...Can you sign me up to Car-less' Super Bird team with #42?

Here you go:----> http://arstechnica.com/gaming/guides/2003/11/ps2-repair-guide.ars
4 pages of step-by-step instructions to clean a fat PS2 and how to realign the laser. I've done this countless times and it does work. Hope it helps you! 👍

Great thanks.

I need to pick up a can of air, some alcohol and q tips, so I probably wont get to it until this weekend.

I did open it up tonight and very carefully sucked out as much dust as I could with the vacuum. It was surprisingly clean inside for being 10 years old.

I put it back together and nothing. When I get a can of air and some alcohol I'll open it up again and clean/adjust the lens.

OK Car-less, I was indeed able to take my pick of 2 Super Birds. The one on my existing mem-card is a red one, unmolested with 5.5 miles on the clock. However, as I suspected, there was a 0.0 mile all-black one on my perfect game save, so I've traded it over and it's ready to rock and roll (roll a lot! :ill:) once you PM me the setups and things for it. I'll be away Saturday until Tuesday, and probably most of the week of Dec 12th, but I'll try to fit stuff in here & there when I can! 👍

A couple of things for Crooooooow: Car-less requested #58 for his Super Bird.
Secondly, what's the scoring criteria for Nurb' 4hrs?
"Hey I finished in 4 hrs!"
"No way! So did I!"

What are we to submit for that? Total time & number of laps?

Least number of dents, I think. :sly:

Bugger. That means I've got to manouevre something that's about as long as from here to the moon, weighs as much as Jupiter and has fairy-cake for suspension around the 'Ring for 4hrs without denting it? :scared:

Could be worse. Could be arcade with the penalty pit. :scared:

Hope I can get the PS2 to read GT4 this weekend, or else I may have to drop out.

Too bad because the '64 GTO I got was fast, and it handled pretty good on the stock suspension.

Fixed. I must have mistaken for your number before you partnered up with Car-less.

You know what, I do not know why I did not think about that when I chose the events. Well that puts me in a position that I am not a good planner when it comes to creating race series'.

Here is the new track in place of the Nurburgring 4hr Endurance.

Endurance Hall
Tracks

1. Laguna Seca 200 Miles
2. New York 200 Miles
