CLASSIC RACING - Sundays 17:00-19:00 BST - CONGRATULATIONS CHAMPIONS Flaco & Lex LathorFinished

Hi Sick Cylinder,
I really like the sound of this race series and reading the posts you all seem like a friendly bunch. However, I'm new to online racing and afraid that I'll be too slow.
I use automatic gears and usually have the racing line on to help me spot my braking points. On most TT seasonals I can get a silver but only occasionally get a gold.
Do you have space on your grid for a slow moving obstacle?
Do you ever meet for practice laps so that I can see if I'm close. I have no problem with not winning, but I'd like to race knowing that I have a chance of not being last.

Hi Tony - Don't worry about being slow. There is a wide range of abilities and all standards are welcome. Recently we have made the driving line optional which helps people who don't have much time to learn the tracks. Some people will be lapped by the leaders at certain tracks, but that adds extra flavour to the race experience.

You will be welcome to join us and don't worry about using auto gears - do whatever you are comfortable with.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. :) Sick_Cylinder I'll send you a FR later assuming I have the spelling correct. And can you let me know what types of cars are still available. I presume you're still racing the V8S for the single make race? Feel free to PM me if you want to keep the thread clear. Thanks

Hi @Benny44 (nice avatar) and @TonyLomas - Hope you can join us. If so Welcome on board. 👍 The more the merrier.

Don't worry about the auto gears Tony, If you're used to them. I use them occasionally. It suits some cars better than others - in fact I can sometimes get better results using auto. Just stay away from the Corvette C2. It has all it's power half way through it's rev range and really needs changing up well before the auto will allow.
However like TheJohnG (racercad) says - manual can add to the overall experience.

Benny - What you need is a split screen TV. :) (or two TV's!)

And don't worry about being slow and steady. Someone in front of you will probably spin off anyway. ;)
(I haven't been practicing much myself recently - So I expect I'll be there with you!)

FR me as well if you want.

A few recent "action" shots to wet your (and others) appetite...

In 3rd picture, that's my red GT350! :D

Yes and no. The reality of owning a classic is always different from the dream.

Yes I suppose that's probably true.
You could do with hiring one for the weekend and then returning it - and let someone else deal with the maintenance etc. Or alternatively win the lottery! (More than a tenner preferably)

Hey IfAndOr, I was going to send you a FR but I'm not sure what your PSN ID is. Mine is Bic44. And that picture looks like so much fun...I really want to get on the track with those classics!

Oh yes sorry. My PSN id is actually IfAndOr.

I haven't been on quite so much recently (summer :)), so if you send a FR don't think you're being ignored if I don't get back to you straight away.

Call for help! Since moving the E-type into the high horsepower world of Ferrari Cobra Wars I'm struggling.
I have an OK 315hp setup for it, add another 100+ hp and I'm slower. Does anybody have any setup tips?
I cannot get the rear end to hookup.

I haven't tried the E-type myself so I don't know if any of the tunes below are any good. Give them a try.
Maybe some of the other racers might have something better.

How many laps or how long in minutes will the Suzuka races be and is it the same for all 4 races?
We have been running the races at about 15mins each race. I'm not sure if this is what Sick has got planned for Suzuka. I would think it's somewhere near though. Don't forget the one compulsory pit stop.

I actually have never pitted at Suzuka - I must find out where the pit lane is!

Yay! I now have over 8.5 mil credits so I can afford some good cars to race in!

Races are 15 minutes each for the current championships. I will come back to you very shortly re cars for race 1 and 2.

PS try to save some of that 8.5 million credits (and if possible earn some more) for the next championships which start in September!

So....races are at 17:00 BST which I believe is the same as GMT. So that is 1pm for me I believe (I am Atlantic time which is GMT -4). I may be able to swing that some Sundays. I am busy Sunday morning but I usually arrive home by 1 or 2. Anyone on here feel free to send me a FR and hit me up for a race. I will probably make you feel very good about your abilities :D

BST is one hour before GMT. BST ends in late October and the meeting will then be at 17:00 GMT until BST starts again in late March.

Don't worry if you can't attend the whole meeting.

Hi Tony - the TVR V8S will increase to 451bhp if you give it the PD magic oil change.

Benny - 44 is ok.

For the next championship I have done more testing this week and have increased the car choices to hopefully make it easier (cheaper) and more interesting for people to compete in either Category 1 or Category 2.

Biggest changes are addition of Chromeline Cobra, Chromeline Jaguar XJ13, Ford GT40 with a colour guide to get historical accuracy to the race photos and aid identification. NB I have not had time yet to update the car choice spreadsheets to match the increase in car choice.

Hi TheJohnG - I use the setup by Arrakis Speedshop. Sadly the Jaguar E type is not very competitive at 460bhp - I made it an option in place of the Ferraris as it is much cheaper and because it made this series as historically accurate as possible - for the benefit of other readers, the Cobra (289), Ferraris, C2 Corvette and Jaguar E Types were all on the entry list for the Guards International Trophy Race at Brands Hatch in 1963 - however in reality the racing E Types were lighter than the version we have in the game and hence more competitive - we really need a factory lightweight E Type Polyphony Digital. If I was to repeat this series in the future I would swap the Jaguar E Types with Shelby GT350's which are better at 460bhp.

The Arrakis Speedshop tune is as follows:

Suspension
RH 99 / 101
SR 6.98 / 4.86
DC 2 / 3
DE 3 / 4
ARB 4 / 4
CA 0 / 0
TA 0.03 / 0.17
RB 3 / 2

Drivetrain 10 / 12 / 15

It's time for everyone to start thinking about the cars they will need for the next set of championships which start with a test day on 7th September with racing proper on 14th September. I will repeat this part of the post from time to time over the coming weeks.

Historic BSCC: Mini Cooper 1.3i 1998 (18,320), Renault 8 Gordini 1966 (50,000), Buick Special (725,000) - Tune to 315bhp max, 640kg min

Caterham Cup: Caterham Seven Fireblade 2002 (60,000) - Max Tune

Ford Ferrari Wars (Historic Le Mans Sports Cars) - untuned (tuning prohibited)

To make it easier for people to compete we are allowing anniversary cars (Cobra Daytona Coupe and Ford GT40) which some people got free with the game and we have split the cars into Category 1 (Fast, but expensive) and Category 2 (Slower and harder to drive, but cheaper). I have tested all the cars and if anyone wants advice on which cars to buy and which category to race in please send me a conversation message via GT Planet.

Speed Guide - Category 1

Category 1 - to be competitive against multiple champion Lex Lathor you will need to be a very good driver with deep pockets and to choose any 3 of the 4 prototype cars - they were all equally fast in testing. Many of us however are not racing with a realistic chance of becoming champion of category 1 - this guidance is for you:

The Cobra Daytona Coupe is the fastest of the alternative cars. The two Cobras and the Ford GT40 turn similar lap times, but are slower than the Cobra Coupe (Note - the GT40 needs Sports Soft front tyres if it has Race Hard rear tyres when on the standard settings that we are using.

Speed Guide - Category 2

Category 2 - to be competitive against the very rapid Harsk (hopefully he has a new or repaired PS3) you will need to be a very good driver. The following guidance is to help you choose your cars if you are planning to race in Category 2.

Fastest Car = Cobra Daytona Coupe
Second fastest car = Chevrolet Corvette C2 Race Car (629bhp with oil change) - very fast, but difficult to control - one for expert drivers as it requires constant adjustment of brake and throttle on corner entry.
Next fastest cars = both Cobras and the Ford GT40. Chromeline Cobra has extra gear, less weight and more power than normal Cobra, but less grip so produces the same lap times. Ford GT40 needs Sports Soft tyres on the front if using Race Hard rear tyres on standard settings as we are doing.
Art Morrison Corvette - slower than the other cars in normal hands - one for expert drivers as on standard settings it runs wide on corners.

Ok, a little late to be asking this but I am unclear as to what I have to drive. And I have a very hard time navigating this site on this old phone so I can't seem to find the official rules. I bought a gt350 and a BMW 507. So I think I need 460 hp in each and no less than 844 kg. I have a mic if that would be easier to explain things to me. I will be up in 6 hours from the time I post this. Sorry for all the questions so close to the race

Hi Benny - This Sunday is round 20 at Suzuka and we will be changing some of the cars on round 22

Race 1 (round 20) is for your Shelby GT350 at 315bhp and 1160kg. For race 1 rounds 22-24 switch to your BMW 507 at 315bhp and 1160kg.

Race 2 (round 20) is for Shelby Cobra at 460bhp and 844kg (the Cobra can get down to 902kg). For rounds 22-24 switch to either a Corvette C2 Coupe OR a Corvette C2 Race Car at 460bhp and 844kg (the Corvettes are heavy so can't get that low).

Regarding tuning - I found that the Shelby GT350 and BMW 507 worked well with the race soft suspension, custom diff at 10/25/15 and racing brakes at 7/4.

The Cobra will respond ok with race soft suspension a diff at 10/25/15 and brakes at 7/4, but for best results try the Praiano Tune - I'll add those details later. Corvette C2 Race Car works best with the Motor City Hami Tune.

Ah, thank you so much. I will do my best to be there. Just getting my cars ready to go. Would you like all my cars the same color? I assume accurate colors (eg., no pearlescent/special paint)

Yes that's correct. Nothing to garish really. Same with the wheels. And no spoilers!

It's a TVR V8S - (Max tune) for the third race. Not sure if you know, it wasn't mentioned above.

Just a reminder it's GMT +1 over here at the moment.

Classic cars look good on their own.*puts away the shiny pink Cobra with large spoiler* Not sure when I will get home, but it will probably be an hour late if you are still racing. Really looking forward to this. I don't have a 97T, but other than that I'm good to go!

*puts away the shiny pink Cobra with large spoiler*
Pink you could possibly get away with. Pink chrome - no chance. :)

Hopefully see you later. 👍

(I haven't got the 97T yet either - might try and win it this afternoon.)

Don't worry about being late or missing races. If you don't have the time or credits to buy and setup a Cobra for this week you can use your Shelby GT350 for race 1 and 2 - simply lighten it and boost the power to 460bhp for race 2.

I stopped getting notifications for this thread:ouch:

I will join he first two races with C2. No time to tune a TVR and already skipping the Senna car as I don't have it.

Is #33 still available?
