CLASSIC RACING Sundays 17:00-19:00 GMT: "Ford Ferrari Wars" LEX CHAMP by 1 Point!Finished

I'll be busy these next 3 days and probably won't be able to make it. Sorry!

Thanks for letting me know Rehdogg.

John Wells will be racing on Sunday covering the slot from the absent Emotional Rekz.

Makovics will be returning to our series and will be taking over Bergele's grid slot.

Rehdogg will be absent on Sunday so we have one grid slot still available for a Reserve Driver - it will go to the first to respond.

I haven't heard anything regarding whether the Pit Stop bug has been fixed so I am assuming that it has not. On Sunday therefore, there will be no compulsory Pit Stops and Tyre / Fuel wear will be adjusted from very fast to fast, which should prevent the need for pit stops. We will continue with no compulsory pit stops until there is further information from PD or GT Planet regarding a fix for this bug.

Sick, doesn't Makovics have GTPlanet?

I was in a room last night and one car got stuck in the pits and 3 cars were invisible to me. I cured the second problem by re-entering.
So you're probably right to postpone the pit stops for at least for awhile.

If you get everyone to just enter the race (not go to the track) you can see from the lobby screen who you can and cannot see.

Good to have you back @makovics1313 👍

See you all later.

Hey
I won't be able to join you tonight, so i hope there are more reserve drivers who are willing to have a go today :)
I'll try to make it to the next round.
Have fun guys 👍

Thanks for letting me know - there are now two unclaimed grid slots available for Reserve Drivers for today's races.

Hi Sick.

Just to confirm I'll be there today for the races. But I think you made me a regular driver rather than a reserve? 👍
Haven't practiced much with my cars but I know Spa is really good fun. Looking forward to it especially as the sound bug is sorted(I think :odd:). Shame about the pits still being an issue.

Good races today, but apologies that not all drivers knew that we had cancelled the pit stops - they will remain cancelled until we hear from PD or GT Planet that the "Trapped in Pits" bug has been fixed. Good that everyone had sound, cars were visible and connections more stable today.

That's a shame that the Pit Bugs remain there.... Because of that, we cannot go to the pits!!! Not even 1 second! :(

This bug is present in online races and offline races?

Sorry for the long post:

Like I said in the chat, it would be best if all participants were also registered here on gtplanet and that they visit this thread frequently, but especially Saturday and Sunday before the meetings to be aware of any short-termed changes.

The stability of the connections today was incredible, go watch any replay you barely see any lag from anybody! 👍

The few performing a pitstop, regardless of its unnecessity, have not been "trapped" so maybe that´s a good sign?

I´ve been endlessly enjoying watching the replay of the main (Ford-Ferrari Wars) race from the top guys perspective:
Lex and Smiley, thank you for this great battle! 👍 👍

I only wished for more Fords and Chaparrals in the mix, I´m sure they are capable of going about the same pace as the Jags and Ferraris.

Speaking of Fords, as much as I dislike the brand as a whole, I must say I kind of like this Shelby Daytona. Any of you who have saved and enjoy watching the replays, please watch the main races battle for 1st in the Category 2 aswell (use either Pimikis or my perspective *Edit: or IfAndOrs -Onboard- he stayed behind the Cat2 cars during a long period, he might have enjoyed the show.) you won´t regret it!

I already miss driving the Daytona in this series. But we got one more to come before we change cars - the infamous Green Hell!

Btw, Sick, do we really want to do the single Nordschleife layout without rolling starts? I can see how that´s going to turn out on the first corner :ouch: :ouch:. The 24hr or the V-Type layout might be better since the longer straight and wider first corner could prevent us from a hughe carnage after the start, especially with the poor launching Cat1 and 2 cars.

A big thank you @Sick Cylinder for putting all of this together: Multiple Class races with Classic/Historic LeMans racecars; A BSCC tribute where Minis, Gordinis and ships like the Buick race at once and even match performance and One-Make races with cars of an always awesome choice! Sick, you´re the man!

I don´t think offline is affected of it, it might have to do with server incompabilites, so probably online only.

Flaco, what happened in the first race? You were parked by the fence just short of the finish line! I watched your replay, and I can't figure out what you did--no collisions, no spinout, you just left the road!

Thanks to Smiley's pit stop, and Flaco's fence sitting, I got my first podium!

Oh, and Sick, damn it! In the main event, I drove conservatively, feeling confident that I would place third if I just stayed on the road. By the time I noticed you creeping up, I had squandered lots of time. After you pushed me for a lap, I blew it and left the track! Grrr.

No apology required. My fault for not reading on here or noticing the lack on instruction at the start of the race.
It was good racing again. I really enjoyed it and found an alternative way of doing the bus stop chicane in my Caterham - sideways across the grass!
I'll post my race photos in the morning.

Flaco had a sizable lead until the last lap, when he spun a couple times and fell to third--but was still several seconds ahead of Whisper. Then, meters from the finish line, he seemed to have developed a steering problem and parked near the fence until falling to 10th place. A grateful Whisper waves while approaching his first podium finish.

Max swings wide, Smiley cuts toward the inside, and Whisper sandwiches in the middle to prevent them from colliding.

After contact in the first corner (for which the OTHER driver was arbitrarily penalized), Whisper inexplicably hesitated and gave the leaders some unnecessary cushion. With a sizable lead over 4th place, and knowing he wouldn't catch the rabbits, he settled in to some conservative driving to stay on the track and ride out what he thought would be a 3rd place finish. Little did he know that some SICK-minded Chaparral driver was stealthily clawing his way back from 10th place! Seemingly out of nowhere, that Chaparral put the pressure on just as Whisper's tires wore to 8's & 9's and departed the track. The Sick one finished 3rd.

Having watched some leaders frequently swinging WAY out of bounds and running parallel to the track several times, I'm wondering why the off track penalty wasn't working. Those who stayed in bounds were at a substantial disadvantage.

Spa was brilliant as always. I was amazed to find myself qualifying quite high with my Renault. But I can't seem to get either the Renault or the Daytona off the line very fast and get swamped or do a sideways Eau Rouge with a pirouette to finish! :dopey:

Sorry to sick I think who spun his caterham on the Kemmel straight and I ended up in the side.

So my story was quite good quali and grid slot then rubbish start or big off 1st lap them tried to get back. Had a few good battles at the back. And for once I got out the way of the leaders, Lex and Smiley during FFW :D

Great pictures Whisper. I completely forgot to save any of the replays :banghead::)
Thanks for hosting and organising Sick. I hope the pit stops return soon as it adds some strategy and allows some of us at the back to catch up a bit. ;)

I haven't watched any of the replays yet, but I'm looking forward to that later. In the Renault I got a good start and was right with the leaders for the first lap. I'm slow at Eau Rouge, but felt the Renault had an advantage over the Buicks in some of the tight sections. Soon however I became detached from the lead group and a momentary loss of concentration just as I thought "Wow, I'm doing well" caused me to crash heavily and drop several places.

The public room gives a connection stability advantage over a private setting, but I wish there was a way to stop people coming in and out of the room during races as that sometimes triggers a loss of concentration - with these cars you really have to maintain it for the whole race.

With the Chaparral I was happy with qualifying, even though I was much slower than Lex and Smiley - that is to be expected as there is a big difference in talent between those two aliens and me. To answer Flaco's point we will see the Chaparral at the pointy end when it is driven by the top drivers. The actual launch was OK, but the Chaparral is so slow off the line I fell from 3rd to 10th I think. I knew it was a long race and there was plenty of time to pass - if you have the replay you can see the first couple of laps from my car - it was challenging and exciting to make clean passes and find Category 2 star drivers like Flaco coming back past whenever the pass wasn't good enough. Eventually I got through and in one of the early laps had a massive tank slapper. By the time I got through the lead pair of Lex and Smiley were 35 seconds ahead! They were putting in incredible lap times. With the setting on "Fast" my tyres didn't seem to wear, but I was worried about fuel - fortunately there was sufficient and as Whispers tyres wore his car got closer until eventually I was past.

For the Caterham Cup we have no qualification to save time, but use an alternating reverse / forward grid based on previous race results. At Spa we started in reverse order so having finished 3rd in the Chaparral I started near the back of the 14 strong field. It was very difficult to pass and I think my car may have been over geared for the track. I apologise for slamming into the back of someone at Eau Rouge, but there was a huge speed differential and cars all over the track. Eventually I passed a few cars as others ran wide or off the track and was close behind Sutsagrd and hoping to pass until the seemingly inevitable mistake followed by further mistakes.

This series of championships has so far exceeded my expectations - the multi-class works well giving average drivers like myself a chance to battle with faster drivers if they have chosen to run in a slower class of car.

Nice to see some great photos appearing in the thread.

Watch it again and take a walk in my shoes. I lead by 10 seconds and made a very stupid mistake on the exit of Bruxelles, which cost me the race because there was no time left for a recover. After that I was in rage and as I couldn´t pass the Buicks anymore, at the Chicane, I just let go off the wheel stood up and poured me some coffee.

Congratulations on your well deserved first podium! 👍

Ah, man--I didn't deserve that! You had me by at least 10 seconds! And if Smiley didn't pit, you both would have had me.

But I'll take it! ;)

As always i seem to enjoy the meet no matter how it tuns out for me. Thanks for your patience. For the BSCC with my Mini i was really in the zone and probably ran my cleanest race ever. A little bad luck for others and i get a couple more points than usual.
The FFW round didn't go so well, after a good Q run i was pretty excited. Too excited to keep it together, first turn crash, and down the first straight I fell back about 10 places. After regrouping I was able to work my Ferrari back up to If as he followed the cat 2 battle. I should have taken his example and enjoyed the close racing. I tried ans tried to get by but just couldn't hold on. Sorry to those i bumped, and the others that i probably scared the hell out of.
Still haven't come to terms with the Caterhams, losing the rear seems to be the way i do it. Finally I gave up, pit and threw some sport softs on the front to finish up the race. It drove a dream with the SS/RH combo. I need to start over on that setup.
With the 'ring coming up I'm pretty scared. Can't wait.

My problem is that I don't practice as much as I used to. I've got involved in other various clubs and series (see signature - all recommended) , so my limited abilities get watered down even further. Sunday comes and I really just "jump in" the cars and try and remember how they handle. A few laps in I'm usually getting to grips with them again. So my chances of grid spots are somewhat limited. Especially with the classy drivers we have now.

Well onto the races...

The BSCC - I can't remember to much about it. According to Tony's chart I started, passed a couple of cars and finished. I'm sure there was more to it than that. I'll have to watch the replay.

FFW's - Again I didn't set a qualifying time since the 2D's slow acceleration means that it gets passed easily at the start. Sick dropped 7 positions. If I'd been besides him there would have been a pile up behind us! So I started at the back and picked my way through. Until I reached the category 2 battle mentioned by Flaco! And he's right it was quite a fight. There were 3 of them initially swapping places. This was whittled down to 2 by the intervention of a certain Ferrari ;). But even this didn't help me, I couldn't get passed them. The 2D could easily catch up with them towards the end of the straights, but then a slow speed corner would be upon us and with the 2D's lack of low speed grunt, they would accelerate away into the distance again. This sequence continued. I could have made a lunge but I didn't want to spoil their fight. So I sat back and watched.👍 (I didn't expect you to let me pass - it was up to me to get by)
I'm sure the 2D will be good at Sarthe - but I won't be in it then! Well done to Sick for his high position in it.

The Catterham's - I started mid pack and quickly found myself in second behind Flaco! I kept good pace with him for the first lap but when leaving the last chicane my tyre spun up on the rumble strip (!) and the car pirouetted around. I sat and watched most of the following pack pass by. Somewhat disheartened I rejoined and worked my way back up to the mid pack position I started in.

Anyway good racing everyone.

Great pictures Tony and Whisper.
And I'm also liking your JS trophy Tony - I'm winning the FFW! (although it's slightly skewed due to my lack of qualifying - so far)

Note: Sick, I'm thinking of giving the Nordschleife a miss. I seem to have been around it lots recently and as you know it's not my favourite. I'll get back to you.

I think you should do the next round IfAndOr - think of the photo potential!

Following sound advice from Flaco I have decided to change next Sunday's race to the 24H layout - this should reduce the risk of huge pileups and increases the chance of the slow starting Category 1 cars (Ford Mark 4 and particularly Chaparral) getting ahead of the Category 2 cars before the old circuit section commences. In view of the extra length of the track the FFW race will be shortened from 3 to 2 laps. The programme will therefore be:

Historic BSCC - 2 Laps (5 minutes qualifying)
Ford Ferrari Wars - 2 Laps (5 minutes qualifying)
Caterham Cup - 1 Lap (Race finish order grid)

Sick
I'm very sorry but I cannot attend this Sunday or next Sunday. :guilty:

This is due to family commitments as well as start of half term holidays.

I'll let you know about 26/10 nearer the time. I'm happy for you to put me onto the reserve list for now. Thanks
