F1 RACE STARS will blast off the grid this November for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Fans can see the trailer and keep up to date with all the latest news about F1 RACE STARS by visiting www.f1racestars.com/.

Today Codemasters® announced that the all-new addition to its acclaimed FORMULA ONE gaming portfolio is F1 RACE STARS, a fast-to-the-fun arcade racing game for all ages featuring official FORMULA ONE cars, teams and circuits as they’ve never been seen before. Set to arrive this November, gamers can see how F1 RACE STARS will take FORMULA ONE over the top in the first trailer video, now playing at www.F1RaceStars.com.

The video reveals how 2012 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™ drivers Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have been transformed into personality-packed heroes and FORMULA ONE circuits are converted into over-the-top tracks built for super-charged speed.

In the video, the drivers are shown blasting down the track in their F1 RACE STARS cars. However there’s a surprise ahead as the circuit begins to transform and a tight hairpin elevates into the sky. Undaunted, the racing heroes accelerate and take the race onwards and upwards.

Coming this holiday season for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC, F1 RACE STARS is now in production at Codemasters Racing Studios in Birmingham, UK, the home of the BAFTA award-winning series of Official FORMULA ONE games, and is being created under exclusive worldwide agreement with Formula One World Championship Limited.

F1 RACE STARS will deliver formula fun on every straight, hairpin, jump and loop-the-loop with super-fast racing and a range of power-ups for players to collect and deploy as they sprint for the chequered flag ahead of their rivals.

F1 RACE STARS will take players on a world tour of iconic FORMULA ONE locations, including Monaco, Silverstone and the new Circuit of Americas in Austin, Texas, recreated as fantastical racing circuits built for speed and wheel-to-wheel competition. Friends and family can share the fun too; F1 RACE STARS will deliver 4-player split-screen racing and 12-player competition alongside an extensive career mode featuring a number of Championships.

Chris Gray, Senior Producer, F1 RACE STARS, said: “We’re really excited to bring the whole cast of FORMULA ONE into a fun new world of racing. We’ve really let our Art and Design teams off the leash to bring F1 stars’ personalities alive in a new way and create a game where racing fans of all ages can jump into all-action solo, split-screen and online multiplayer races. It’s the game we’ve wanted to create for a long time and, building on our strong relationship with Formula One Management Limited, we’re now able to bring Codemasters’ long-standing expertise in track design and AI to create a FORMULA ONE racing experience quite unlike any other.”

A kart style F1 game, with loops and powerups and cartoon graphics, due to be released in November.

So this is what they meant by "family friendly". Makes sense as long as the main series isn't compromised.

It's been developed by the same guys that do the regular series.

Hope the regular game hasn't taken a hit because of it.

Can't blame Codies for milking a license that must have cost a lot of money. Surprised Bernie gave it the green light. He must be softening

Is it bad that I'm really tempted by this, since I loved Modnation Racers?... I mean your only youn... 23 once, right?...

Maybe they should put some more time into doing the core F1 title properly (because its pretty poor) rather than swanning around with the licence. How many kart games do people need!?

And with LittleBigPlanet Karting coming soon, this could be a non starter on Ps3.

The Maldanado'h character will probably be the best choice to use though.

This is being made by a completely seperate team to the proper game.

Robin.

I have to disagree with you. Their f1 games are excellent IMO.

It's worth pointing out that ages ago Codemasters said they were creating a family friendly version a while ago and that this game is being created by a seperate developer team to the F1 2012's one as pointed out by SimonK.

Same Codemasters Birmingham studio, separate team inside.

But couldn't that team be put to better use working with the other guys on the main title? Or are they just basically copy and pasting year on year now?

I don't think it takes that many people to make a yearly F1 game, they already have 120+ working on it. Of course a lot of it is copy and paste, how could it not be in a yearly game, but they still work plenty of other changes and add new features in.

Robin.
I feel there hasn't been an outstanding one since F1CE by Studio Liverpool but its just my opinion.

I, on the other hand, feel that f1ce was dreadful. Just my opinion.

I think their (codemasters) F1 games are excellent, massive room for improvement but great games that I have spent a lot of time playing. The screenshots atleast look cool, something my nephews would play and I'd play with them, a good way to get the young audience into the sport.

What I see Codemasters as doing is dividing each entity into 2 clear age groups. Before we had F1 2010 / F1 2011 which had to cater ALL ages, and as a result those in the youngest bracket struggled whilst those wanting a sim game found it too arcadey. Same with the DiRT games and I imagine GRiD if they are going to be bringing that back at any time.

So by having a younger series and an older, you can go to extremes. I still don't think Codemasters have a fundamentally good base on which to develop a true simulation that people are after, but the simulation software currently on offer take years to develop whilst codemasters are under pressure to release the current state each year. F1 2010 to F1 2011 saw very good improvements in the handling, and I'm hoping a similar improvement will make it handle even better this time around, even if it still doesn't hit the ultra high expectations of those who think making a simulator is easy...

The main F1 games are too arcadey as it is, why don't they make a sim for real F1 fans instead?

Oh wait, because money.

Well, yes. The license wasn't cheap, they can't afford to make a hardcore sim that 20,000 people buy at best.

Well because it would be too hard and then the general population (where the money is) wouldn't buy it. The same thing happened with F1CE which is the most accurate simulation F1 game to ever come out on a console and all the reviewers who suck at even things like NFS found it way too hard and therefore it didn't review well.

Codemasters F1 is too much like Grid with a skin which is probably what they aimed for because its a happy medium for the majority of gamers. Would be nice if they could sim it up even more though.

I would argue that the F1 2010/2011 games are already too sim for the majority of people that would want to play them, they are more than halfway there towards being a full sim, far more realistic than for example the F1 car in GT5.

Codemasters need to sell big numbers to justify the licence and expectations so that the title series can live, the ammount of work and development needed to make a full sim would be massive, it would limit the game even further towards a niche market audience, lastly the fact is that there are other development companies out there that can do a better job and are already doing a better job at making a full on simulation.

Simraceway just got the licence to the 2011 Mclaren MP4-26 formula 1 car, Ferrari Virtual Academy is a fantastic simulation of the 2010 Ferrari F10 and 2011 F150 italia and iRacing has a decent representation of the 2009 Williams FW31. It isnt ideal but if you want full on simulation you can find it.

For the F1 game I think codemasters have found a great balance that pleases me as a sim racing enthusiast, it won't please everyone but you have to understand that they are likely never going to make a 100% sim game.

As for this Kart title, it looks awesome to me, but I won't buy it personally.

I don't see the point in this, if you like F1 why would you buy this?

You'd just buy something like ModNation Racing...

Very pointless I think.

If I like F1 I'd buy Modnation racers?.

Er no if I like F1 and I was considering Modnation racers I'd buy F1 stars.

Am I odd?

If you like F1, it's probably for the technical side and the cornering speeds etc not for using Power Ups like Mario Kart...

So, why not buy ModNation Racers instead where you can do loads more, like F1, NASCAR etc and loads of different stuff, with the customisability...

Just seems silly to me. But, someone might want this.

Meh, makes me lose hope for F1 2012. One big team couldn't manage F1 2010 or 2011 without it being buggy as hell and broken so if this has been made as well then 2012 will have taken a hit.

I don't care what anyone says about it being a seperate team inside the studio, 2012 will suffer imo.

TBH, this will probably turn out to be the better and less buggy of the 2 games, presumably looking at the trailer it will share 2011's physics at least..

No it wasn't. It was an arcadey game with on rails handling and more of an emphasis on presentation than gameplay. I like you, but how many times do we need to have this conversation?
