''Codemasters has said it will ignore the trending of escalating the numbers of tracks and cars seen in other racers, and instead will focus on making the most immersive on-track experience available.

This will be achieved through a hand-picked car selection, a new 'TrueFeel' handling system that drops assists for a more intimate driving experience, improved lighting and damage models, as well as a more cinematic and artistic approach to presentation.

As well as a more open campaign that allows players to choose their own vehicles and courses, tracks will evolve as your position and stature in the racing world increases, adding more spectators and sponsors.

The racer will also make the full debut of Codemasters' RaceNet online service, offering a persistent identity across multiple games in the publisher's library.
Finally Flashback - a ground-breaking feature which debuted with the original GRID that allowed players to rewind the race and erase mistakes - will be revamped and given a full reveal at a later date.

"GRID 2 will represent Codemasters' largest ever investment both commercially and in terms of manpower," said executive producer Clive Moody.

"We have a hugely talented team here at Codemasters Racing and it's our intention to once again set new standards for the genre."

GRID 2 will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in summer 2013."

Yeah Thank god we won't get many tracks and cars, who the hell needs them in a racing game Good call codies I bet that was also calculated :indiff:

And...for an arcade racer...race cars are actually kinda rare. Besides, NFS Shift and Shift 2 didn't have any actual race cars
OMG :sly: please do yourself a favour, try, at least try to check what are you saying before posting. FIAGT1, FIAGT3 toghether with all the works converted models actually are Race Cars. C'mon dude.

To me, that says 'arcade'. Because if there's no assists, then how is it accessible to new players, but also challenging to experienced ones?

I know I keep saying it but I really am getting SEGA Rally vibes from this game.

There were very little touring cars in Grid to begin with. I wish the went back to being a full on touring car racing game.

Drifting sucks and street racing with some souped up, racing decall corvette is just plain stupid. DTM Driver 3, or TOCA 3 on ps2 was one of the best (WTC on ps1 was THE best), DTM, V8, BTCC etc.

I really don't like what codemasters is doing. By renaming their brand to fully focus on racing games, unfourtunatly didn't mean better, more dedicated racing games. Instead the focussed on getting racing to the big, not so into racing, crowd. Bleh.

:grumpy:

I give, someone come find me when the :censored:fest is over and people start talking about the game itself. It's not TOCA, GT, Shift, or whatever the hell you believe it is remotely related to. It's not Grid 1, its a new game with different features, as opposed to EA/Activision series that add one item, reskin something else, and pass it off as "new and innovative".

👍 I agree with you. Very excited truth be told. However I WILL be pissed if the soundtrack doesn't have the original's vibe.

Here's a car list for Shift 2:

Just a few that caught my eye are the DBR9 GT1, DBRS9 GT3, BMW M1 Procar and Audi R8 LMS.

Here's one for Shift:

Much the same deal, plenty of racing cars there too. (edit: ok, not 'plenty', but some)

For what it's worth though, I do agree that people are jumping the gun a little. They need to have some stuff to show off as 'brand new' info to keep the hype up as time goes on, right?

Not getting involved in the argument but dude, you have no idea how wrong you are about that. Shift 1 has the BMW M3 GT2 & Shift 2 has both the FIA GT1 and FIA GT3 cars on there as well as the Falken Tire Porsche GT3 RSR and BMW M3 GT2.

You know what? I still don't consider Shift 1 and 2 to have actual race cars because the "race cars" they did have blended into the rest of the car selection. Which is why I forgot about the FIA sponsorship. Come on people, it's EA, they don't make good use of licenses anymore.

Besides that...that's what, three arcade racers out of how many that have race cars (I'm counting GRID 1 among them). To be honest, it would actually be kinda cool if they didn't have any race cars...or...at least made them harder to access. If you're going to do a Racing RPG, then, it'd make sense to have the player start out with nothing and work his way to the top and he/she can choose whether they want to race a purpose built racing car, or play through the career with modified street cars and build their own racing machines.

@ Classic. I love how you agreed with the guy complaining about this 🤬 fest and then 🤬 about the music. Really? Really? Seriously, people. I'm done with this thread as well. Wake me when you people have stopped being a bunch of paranoid alien abductees.

In going back and forth on the information. The game sounds like it could have very cool aspects and very disappointing aspects. However, I shall wait to judge until we see more.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. GT5 doesn't have any race cars either by that token, they just blend into the rest of the cars. You know it is ok to admit you're wrong?

This is just about the funniest thing I've ever read and not been hospitalised as a result!

Anyway, In my own humble opinion they've only made mistakes with this reveal. Not showing any racing cars, and doing nothing to confirm they're presence, is leading to fears that the thing that made the first GRID so brilliant, the way it made you feel like a real race driver, driving real racing cars in realistic championships, will be gone.
And removing the cockpit view, umm... This isn't 1996 you know Codemasters... You were the ones who made that view a big thing to start off with... Umm...

 roger the horse. For a second, I thought that you had lost your mind and thought that you were actually talking to Codemasters. they should read that, though.

Oh, I lost my mind before I was born, and I think I was talking to Codemasters before I was born too.*

*I think I might still have the posters Codemasters sent me in an attempt to stop me sending them letters ordering them to do things in their next games...*

*Before you ask, this is actually true

I like that, in fact I'm going to try and get myself some posters.

I love the white text. You always have to read EXACTLY what Roger says, and then highlight it.

Seriously, though, I'll join anyone in asking for:

-a realistic physics mode (not the whole game, just an option which changes the physics)
-an in-car cockpit view.

Honestly, if it has those two things, and the tracks/cars from GRID (1) with the same crashes, and the same "don't crash or your race is actually over" damage model, I'd buy it. If not, :ouch: No luck this time, Codemasters.

Why thank you!

This sounds like a very good solution. It would please the Sim racers, the casuals, and the people like me who play GRID for what it is and play GT or Race or RBR if we want realistic physics.

I'm only capable of driving efficiently with real physics, and don't want to be passed by those who drive their car sideways, like they're playing Ridge Racer.

P.S., I was rubbish at Ridge Racer. BUT, in GRID, in the Lacetti touring car, I was one of the fastest ever lap times around Detroit. That should tell you the difference, between sliding/gripping, and how quick I am when the physics feel normal.

And, you're welcome. Honestly, the white text idea is funny. 👍 :sly: Even I use it sometimes.

Indeed it was 1:59s in touring cars around Spa 👍. In GT5 your lucky to get under 2:30s in a stock BMW 320i touring car . But I still loved it and it was my first online racing experience :).

All I said was that I want GRID2 to have the same kind of cinematic tracks that the originals and SHIFT2 had, and if it doesn't I will be greatly disappointed. I don't see how that contradicts what I agreed with?

It's OFFICIAL no games have race cars.

If they are blended toghether road cars, doesn't count.

That's the rule.

I would like to correct you, most of the Formula 1 games only have race cars, except for 98 and 2011, where they are blended in with the safety car, and therefore all become road cars.
We need to start saying this elsewhere on the web. Spread the ways of Supershouden! (No offence to him,)

Anyway, who thinks GRID 2 might be headed for the wrong consoles? The fact they haven't announced a Wii U release, worries me, and there's a good chance that by the time GRID 2 comes out it'll be overshadowed by the approaching launch of the 3rd XBOX, and the PS4 / PS Orbis...

The only good thing about Grid 1 was and still is demo derby, they better have demo racing in Grid 2 and when I say demo racing I mean no nitros boost or **** looking cars as in showdown.
