I use the E-brake for hairpins. Its kind of fun because if you time it right you'll slide right up to the wall and take off. The cars are a lot different though, first rally I did I rolled the first turn. The roll was pretty good though because it slide sideways a bit then tipped. The only problem I have is, they dont have as many cars, and no S4.

I'd say a combination is the best way, I use the brakes on the way in to slow down, then give it a flick of E brake to slide around the inside, straightening up on exit.

Yea that is probably the best way. I just played some online rally, not a fan of the ghost cars. Everytime someone crashes I think I'm going to hit them and let off. It also throws off my focus because I watch them more then I look at the track or listen to the Co-Driver, which is bad because a lot of people cut and crash, a lot.

Graphics looks good no argument there. The physics is not bad I can live with that, I think it improved it from the last Dirt. But the cars WTF? couldn't they just recycle the cars from Dirt 1 or where they too cheap to pay any licensing fees to any of the real rally cars. The only one I see so far is the Subaru WRX and the Mitsubishi Lancer. Who the hell wants to race an Eclipse? It's like they just morph some cars together to make their own to avoid licensing fees or are they going to add real rally cars as DLC to milk us for more money. Where are the Peugeots, Ford Escorts, Fiestas, Seats, Citroens?

I'm a big CM fan but this is not CM. They should call it what it is, Rockstar rallying X game something.

Last I checked Colin McRae wasn't in the title(at least here in the states)

It is here, but Colin did compete in the X games to so it's not completely void of McRae. However, at least this way they're raising awareness of rallying and other off-road events to the mainstream audience. Hollywooding it up what is an arcade game already, doesn't seem like a major crime, although I can't say I'd say no to more normal WRC style events and I'd love for Pikes Peak to make a return as well.

I bought it after having a lot of fun with my DFGT in the demo. It's arcade fun, but at least it's controllable with the wheel. You can be very accurate. DiRT 1 and GRiD were both dreadful in comparison, but I kept my long-term faith in Codemasters and gave DiRT 2 a try for old times' sake :)

As long as you accept that it's X-Games racing, just enjoy the variety. Personally I was looking forward to the rallycross and buggies because I really enjoyed them from Race Driver 2 & 3 back years ago.

Oh, can someone post some screenshots of one of the night time stages with about 1000 lights all visible and the game still running along at 60fps. Awesome! Kudos to Codemasters for the quality of the graphics engine.

After playing for a couple hours last night, I have come to the conclusion that this game is NFS:UG without the open world or modifications.....with rally cars. I'm having fun with the physics and the cars sound nice. But wish is was more of an actual "rally" game.

I just got this today and so far I really like it. I personally think the Gatecrasher stages are seriously good fun and the quality of locations is great. Croatia has the best rally stages ever! I'm not really a fan of the big truck races but the Trailblazer events are so fast and tight its epic.

One thing I'm missing from Dirt 1 is Pikes Peak. Oh and the game isn't taking that long to do either, I'm close to X-Games America and I've only had it a few hours.

EDIT: Lmao at the Dallenbach Special, not had a chance to race it yet but it looks fun.

so I picked up the game wed. night (9-9-09) I had preordered it a couple of months back and boy am I glad I did.....!!!!!(preorders from gamestop received a dc dvd) So far so good, logged around 5-6 hrs of game play and Im on level 28. graphics, gameplay, sound effects are pretty amazing . Ive been playing with a g25 + playseat evo and the ffb is really strong. which brings me to my question, what is everyone with a g25 running their steering wheels settings at and the ffb settings? I cant quite get it to feel right...... so please post up your settings

This game really doesn't last long at all, I only bought it earlier today and I've almost completed it. I've spent more time cancelling stupid replays and looking a silly camera sequences than I have racing and I've still reached level 34.

I do really like the game though, I don't mind that it doesn't last long and you end up racing the same location over and over. I love the inclusion of the older cars you get when completing the world series events and the MKII Escort at the end of the X-Games. Plus some disciplines I could race all the time, I absolutely love Trailblazer, Rally and Rallycross. I've also grown quite fond of Landcrush after buying the most expensive racer.

Picked this up tonight on the way home from work. Will probably be on most of the weekend. If any of you guys who have it want to do some online racing feel free to hit me up.

Default was 50% environmental, 100% FFB, 50% wheel weight, or something like that wasn't it?

I've turned it down to 20%, 70%, 30% (or something close to that) for my DFGT. It's a shame to lower environmental too low, but that rattling was irritating me.
I generally run my DFGT at slightly lower FFB settings than my G25 any time I do a direct comparison (e.g. in GT5 Prologue). I would assume I'd be reasonably happy with just below default using the G25, maybe 30/80/40 or so.

thanks, what are your steering settings? Like the saturation,linearity,ect....?

I left them on default. Going for more steering lock would be needed in a real sim but I like the way you can be accurate but not break your wrists flicking the wheel around for powerslides. It's probably not linear, but so far it hasn't bothered me because I've found myself accurate enough.

I drive Richard Burns Rally with around 280 degrees lock on my PC, for similar reasons (although I set that totally linear of course)

the rattling was driving me insane as well.......!!! the 20%,70%,20% feels much, much better. thanks again

now if i could just get the steering a little better I'd be much happier:indiff:

Im loving the game, im getting the G25 out in the morning for a good session, but here are 3 shots taken with the very limited photomode and edited of course.

Nicely edited shots Sprite. 👍

So far I'm loving this game, sure its been Americanized but that doesn't take the fun factor out. The game is great fun and offers a fairly wide range of events and certainly more locations than the original Dirt did. Even if some of the stages are re-runs they tend to be reversed which makes it a bit interesting. I have a couple of gripes with the game but they aren't major things. Concerning the length of the game, I don't think its as short as people are making it out to be. Sure the X Games are seen as being the ultimate events but theres so many other events, I'm not sure they are the final events...I mean what about the Colin McRae Memorial Rally that is supposdly found later in the game? There plenty of events to do until then anyway.

I'll give some more detail another time.

I noticed while doing the replay and doing Photomode (Kinkaid Ford) that the truck was leaving tire tracks in the dirt. These little details in the game are really cool just like the eye movement on the skull sitting on the dash, and the water/windshield wipers while in cockpit view. I played the game for the first time last night for about an hour, I hear that the game is short, and repetitive. Honestly I think the replay value is very high and I have yet to try online. I will try the steering settings posted above on my G25 to see how they feel, I also have my Buttkicker attached and is VERY active in this game between the jumps, bumping, and walls.

Exactly. The graphics on this game along with all of the minor details are what make it visually stunning. I accidentally crashed on a rally stage earlier, and I kept rewinding the replay and watching it over and over, because it just looked so realistic. The physics on this game are just about spot on, IMO. Nice and tight handling, easy to throw the car into the corner and carry through with the tail out. 👍

Absolutely loving the Trailblazer version of the Colin McRae R4 rally car.

Bought the game yesterday (and pre-ordered GT5 aswell) and played for a couple of hours yesterday evening. I absolutely love the game and I think I'll be playing it till GT5 full comes out :).

If you wanna add me to do some races online, feel free to do so 👍. I'm using my normal PSN for this game, not my GTP, as my GTP friends list is full :ouch:

Photo mode? how when where? I heard it was supose to have the same one as IL2 (goto XMB pictures) but can't see it and nothing in the pause options?

Same as IL-2, go to photo part of the XMB in a replay and press the screen shot button. Just make sure you pause the replay first.

Ahh right! Cheers, I know where I was going wrong now, you need to be in replay mode for it to work! That makes sense and is a better option than IL2's just hit the XMB button, which can be hit and miss at times!
