I think that was a really shallow comment to be honest (no personal offence intended), there's plenty of physics there, it's accessable, yet reasonably difficult to master.

Agree 100%.

The physics of Dirt2 feel the same as the early CMR titles. Whats different in Dirt2 are the format and window dressing. The physics are there, but gone are the long point to point rally stages and any attempt to simulate a reality race series.
After almost a month I've decided Dirt2 is brilliant if you isolate your favorite things and just do those. For me the rallycross stages of LA, UK, and Japan are impressive enough to get my kicks on. If you cant get your kicks using an all-star upgraded rallycross car in the night stages in TimeTrial/London then I'm afraid you have no kicks to get.

Parts of Dirt2 are dumb, and its not a title that will inspire fansites. I actually mentioned gtplanet by name on the dirt2 website in a long post, saying that even a semi-crappy game like SCC (which I was a beta tester on) has its own forum here, while Dirt2 only has a single and not very active thread devoted to it (this one!) I mocked Codemasters for trying to make a game accessible but really only just murdering the loyalty of CMR regulars.
Anyway my passion got me banned but I dont give a frick. Dirt2 had potential to be great for racers like us, but instead its an impressive package that has great isolated moments. For me its the best thing out there, if you can deal with its limitations.

Nope.

Codemasters = zero physics. Can't see the point playing rally without any physics. I would better buy RBR
Did you read all of my post, or just the first line? I didn't say I wanted hyper-realism, I said I'm after something that I can pick up and play without having to worry about by gear ratios.

The McRae series never really had long stages, at least not in my experience. The longest one I can recall was a seven-kilometre affair in the UK in the first game. My main concern is that the locations are only going to have one or two stages, in comparison to the eight or nine you could expect from early titles.

The locations each have between 2-4 stages, or variations. For example: LA=3, UK=3, Japan=2.. if you do get the game (pc) you'll own the best looking racer that has ever been made. The physics are fine.

DO IT!
:)

Buy Burnout. What the point to play simulator without physics? There is no fan

Because it's not a simulator...

It's supposed to be an arcade racer, that everyone can have fun with but that will still challenge more serious gamers (like Burnout, but arcade racers don't have to be street racing nitro exploding hyper cars doing 220mph all the time). That I believe it achieves and gives you plenty of fun when you go at it. I don't even own the game and I know this.

Why don't try demo?

It doesn't have zero physics (and if you make that baseless, pointless statement about one more game you will be getting an infraction for repeatedly posting misleading information), it has arcade physics and has never claimed anything different.

Your post adds nothing at all to this discussion, and is borderline spam, you contributions to the site as a whole are generally of little value and you seem to delight in trying to force your (often incorrect) views on other people.

Please take this as a very public warning, sort out your posting style and quit with the nonsense if you want to stay as a member here. You have already gained the attention of the staff, and I can assure you, its not in a good way.

Scaff

I'm confused.

I just ran a 3:03.074 @ Mali Alan Pass with the Evolution X rally car. My personal best.

But the leader boards have me in the 3:08's in a 350Z. Something isn't right...

I rented the game 2 nights ago, and I can tell you guys that it is excellent. The cars are easy to drive, almost anyone can play this game w/o getting frustrated, and this makes for a really competitive game with the hardcore audience. Shaving off seconds and milliseconds is really awesome and you always feel like you can go faster and faster.

Anyone interested in playing online with me?

Codemasters has responded to an email that I sent them about the game's inability to update the leaderboard's top time. Just like R1600turbo's point, I too had posted a new World Record at Kane Creek beating my team mate, OSR_Brindle's time by .9 seconds and it "never made it through the server" as the Codemaster responder put it. He said that they will try to fix it, but it has been weeks now and nothing has changed.

The screen still shows my personal best as the fastest time and my actual ghost leads OSR_Brindle's ghost when I run the event again. I don't see why Codemasters doesn't just use the fastest ghost replay and just update the boards manually.

If one's efforts to be the best in any event is simply met with frustration and indifference by Codemasters, then a large part of the game's appeal, has been removed ..... for me at least :)

BTW ..... I've added an additional video to my post on page 22 if anyone is interested :)

Well I finally coughed up and bought Dirt 2 a couple of days ago, my oh my I wish I had bought it sooner! I now have all the cars I want, basically the only one I needed to unlock was the Ford Escort Mk. II although I've stuck with my No Fear Gold Impreza (Group N) since the start, a wonderful drive and damn good fun. The rally cars are by far my favourite, followed by Trailblazers (which I use the Solstice over the kinda meh but faster Dallenbach). That said, I usually race with a friend as we successfully ruin each other stats , we usually host a jam session with Rally cars on various tracks, collisions on staggered starts none of this ghosting rubbish. That said, in 107 races I've had 106 podiums and 54 wins.

Sometimes having collisions on can be a pain, when you get a guy who you've caught up, and are much faster than, who will take you both out rather then let you by (which seeing as they've already lost a good 10-20 seconds on you is completely pointless) but when you get a good group (remembering you can kick multiple offenders) it's simply fantastic.

[blabbering]Best race so far was 5 laps around Shibuya rallycross track (in Rally cars), myself and my team-mate on gold Gr Ns battled it out with an Escort for the full 5 laps, inchs between cars as I was the guy stuck in the middle who had to try and take the lead without losing my spot (especially as I was points leader coming into the race). It was truly fantastic, and the lap times we were running were simply incredible considering the battle going on, although for the most part we couldn't overtake because our paces were so similar! Running so close for so long though, I took many looks and pulled alongside more then once but just couldn't take my team-mate. I sense I was the fastest of the bunch but I just couldn't gain enough of an advantage without risking everything. It ended in a 1-2 for the Gold Scoobs but all 3 finished within a second of each other. I went on to clinch victory in the 5 race series with 48 points, the above race being my only non-victory, although none of the victorys were easy and it's been unusual that I've beat my team-mate that many times in a series. The Escort and my team-mate were drawing heading into the final round, the second rallycross (the other stages were rally) and after initially being spun out, it was the gold subaru who managed to get second and finish off the 1-2 over the series for us. [/blabbering]

I recommend running staggered and collisions on all rally stages in particular, it's simply the best way to race, keeps things dynamic with decisions to be made on the fly if you catch another driver, or even get caught up by one. Do you overtake? Can you afford to wait for a good chance? Making these decisions as you fly along a cliffside in Croatia makes thing alot more intense, even if there are no other cars around you, you have to decide to push or lay off, depending if you want victory in the race, or in the series.

I can't wait to get some more runs in tomorrow, unfortunately my classses resume on Monday and it'll be time to get back to work so my Dirt adventures will have to slow down.

Indeed, and it brings a lot to the competition even with quite closely equal drivers. I had a nice race in Croatia too not a long ago. We had last race reversed starting order and it was the second or third race of that series. It's good that way, because you can see the times of the closest rival who is behind you. Anyway, I was in the lead of the series and had won the previous race series/sessions so maybe I had the mental edge. Race started, I drove the first split bit too safe and noticed that I was only 0,1 ahead. So I knew that I had to push harder on the next split. I did and managed to get the difference into 1,5 s. Then halfway of the third split I saw that my "rival" had gone off, I guess he decided to push on the limit after seeing my second split and went beyond his limit. It was a good example of the dynamic decisions you mentioned. This game truly delivers great moments :)

Thats why I love it, it's so dynamic and it's so immersive at times, like when you see the drivers line up for the start and watch them leave one by one. Driving with no collisions spoils the feeling when you just ghost through your opponents as does the simultaneous starts. Similarly, I think rally cars are more fun on the rallycross courses then the rallycross cars themselves, I'm not sure why it just seems more fun. Infact I think the rally cars provide the best racing period, they're all pretty evenly matched so there's no magic car like say the Dallenbach is on trailblazer. Sometimes there is a best car for a certain track, like the Escort in Croatia, but the difference is minimal and on another track, like say the long Morocco stage, the Escort loses out during the bumpy section badly. Me and my team-mate are always closely matched, usually fighting for the top spots alone but I had to add the Escort driver to my PSN list from the Shibuya race and he joined the action, although he was weaker on the rally stages his Rallycross skills were evident.

I guess I should try rally cars on rallycross tracks. I think I've only tried them once or twice, but I do like a lot driving with the rallycross cars on their own tracks. Maybe it's because of, like Jeremy would put it, the POWERRR!

As one can see from my videos posted on page 22, I am really into this game. Unfortunatly, there weren't very many on my friend's list who bought the game but there were a few. I managed to meet and add some new people through the process of having close clean races, but lately, it seems hardly any of them have been playing DIRT2 and it's been kinda lonely trying to find good guys to race with. I've even had to resort to playing Prologue again even though I only connect to 30% of the rooms I attempt to get into.

It occurred to me that this might be a good place to put the word out ..... if anyone wants to add me or invite me to their rooms for some DIRT action, I would really appreciate it. My ID is OSR_ANFD. OSR is my team tag which stands for "Old School Racing", a team based upon the principles of respectful, friendly and profession racing from days gone by :)

I'll go for that, if you get there first add me (psn: Dragonistic). I feel Dirt 2 is an overlooked title simply because it's an off-road racer that doesn't have massive over the top environments like those found in Motorstorm. Then it alienates hardcore rally fans by not being an outright sim, being a little hollywood and not focusing on point to point rallying enough. There's a very good game lying beneath the surface though, although I wouldn't say no to some more point to point stages, like some night or tarmac stages would be nice, but it's highly enjoyable as it is.

I've been sucked into Hot shots golf recently, but I plan on picking up DiRT2 during the week sometime. (if I can find play time around the History WWII in HD shows)

Edit: I've been keeping an eye on the Codemasters forums to see if they are throwing any hints out for DLC. Nothing yet, although a lot of people on there want CM to give us the tracks from DiRT1 as a DLC and I haven't seen them respond with a no...

Pikes Peak! I would certainly be interested in Pikes Peak, not really sure why they didn't put it in Dirt 2 anyway to be honest.

Man ... you got that right !! We used to have tournaments just based on that single event. It WAS the game :)

And I've been sucked into SSV8 lately. The bad thing in this is, that you can't just jump to Dirt2 from that or you end up crashing every corner available. I always need to drive some 7-8 laps before I get the Dirt2 "touch" back. But I do drive once a week Dirt2 with some finnish friends, so maybe I'll add some of you guys next time I'm on my PS and try to hook up with you guys too :) I'm not superquick driver, but I do try to drive fair always and of course have fun!

I'm pretty much the same, I'm not all that brilliant but I'm not exactly a snail either. I try to be consistent and clean but I'm not afraid to push my own limits to.

How to get "Dialled in" trophy (custom setup win)??? When playing online my friend made a match and I tuned some parts and won but no trophy.

Am I missing something?

I did it in Dirt Tour not online, just do it on a random event in Dirt Tour and all should be well. Failing that, STORE the set up, recall it, then run the race.

TNX!!! I got it!

And now I've got Platinum Trophy.

Fame level 15, 30. Cautious impact rating (easy, will do privately along with the next), all online disciplines (easy, I just need to do a last man standings), enter 4 tournaments (easy but a little lenghty) and perhaps one more. I'm at 91% of the trophies as it stands I know that much.

Fame level is easy to reach on Pro mode + some extra missions like spin-daddy or environmentalist ...

Yeah, first game with 100% trophies for me. :D

I want to do it properly, how much FP will I get for being a bit of a fool and just spinning around in a random race?
