I bet you right now He's in Heaven making an '01 Focus do the sideways dance, trying to Richard's Stage time.

Rally on in Heaven man.....rally on

IMO if you make a tribute vid use energetic music or the sound of his car dancing.

While I quite agree he is running the great rally stages in the sky he will not just be doing it in a Focus. Like all true car nuts he had his own project car, an NA Mk2 Ford Escort, so he we go Colin at play with his own toy.

You're so right:D

Don't forget the R4! That car was so cool. But yeah, all rally nuts had a MK2 Escort at some point in their career.

Wow! I just heard the news today and still can't believe it! When I started watching WRX on SpeedTV way back in 01', I instantly became a "Colin McRae" fan...as his driving style was just 'all out pedal to the metal', which I really enjoyed watching and one which earned him a 'love/hate' relationship with fans...seeing as it caused more 'crashes', then 'stage wins'.

It's sad to know that over the last few years, we've lost two (2) of the most greatest, well known, modern-day rally drivers to ever get behind the wheel.

This is truly sad news for all rally fans across the globe!

I, not as a rally fan but a motorsports fan, agree with great sadness...

He seemed invincible behind the wheel of his trademark Ford Focus, and the countless rally games he had his name affixed to...

It is a shame that he, after all this time defying death, that it had to get him before his time would come...

Those "jet contrails" will probably end up as the skidmarks of his racer across the sky. They'll never be the same again for a Scotsman, who, in a few years, has made himself into a legendary figure.

I was lazy and used a lolcat maker to make this, which is now my wallpaper

His death affects (or is it effect) me more than I thought. Every time I have some fun being here on GTP, I get a little bit sad when I read this thread. :(

Just got this from Codemasters.

Hello.

As followers of racing games, and followers of Codemasters, I’m sure you have by now heard the very sad news of the death of Colin McRae, his son and two family friends.

For us all here at Codemasters, it was a privilege to be associated with a man recognised as a true great. He always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport. He was not prepared to compromise and was as passionate as us in making the Colin McRae games the best they could be.

For those of us who worked closely with Colin and got to know and admire him, we take great heart from this and recall great memories of his time in the dev studio. I’m sure that many of you out there reading this will also have wonderful memories of a first-class sportsman, whether from WRC coverage, or if you were lucky enough to meet him.

Many of you have already posted messages of condolence on the Codemasters forum, and we would like you to know that we’ve set up a dedicated page for this purpose on the Codemasters website here: www.codemasters.co.uk/colinmcrae

Personally, I’ll count the interview I did with him in 2004 as a memory I’ll forever cherish, and I thought I’d just pull a short quote from it to end this tribute to a friend of Codemasters, and an all-around "car guy"

RFT:
"OK. What is it about you as a rally driver that makes you better than the next guy?"

CM:
"For any successful driver, it’s confidence. Self-belief. But that’s in anything in life. If you’re confident in what you’re doing and you really believe in yourself that you can pull it off, then generally you will."

I never was a rally fan...but I knew the name that was McRae. And news of his passing only saddened me, because I know how many racing greats we've lost lately...In the past 10 years the racing world has lost so much....why? And not only in rally circles, F1, NASCAR, Whatever. In 2001 NASCAR lost 7-time champion Dale Earnhardt, also in NASCAR Kyle Petty's son Adam Petty was killed at NHIS, Alan Kulwiki was killed in a copter crash too...

...So why is all this happening? Colin McRae is just the latest....and it makes me sad...

R.I.P. McRae, I was never a fan of rally racing, but I can respect a great champion...:(

Back in the days of GT3, I used to love to drive rally, I still hold a record or two at gttimes cause of Colin, I used to love pretending to be him when I raced rally and the same was true when I was in the Board Challenges the past couple years I got to do some dirty driving. It is a sad day indeed, you will truly be missed in my book. He was fast even though he was British..I kid I kid :). Thanks for the inspiration Colin, a great champion, a fearless driver in the upmost. My prayers are with their family and friends.

So glad I saw him at Goodwood this year. Definetly a man bigger than the sport, and I'm sure rallying appreciates that.

When I first heard this I was in disbelief. Then they said it was true and it made me so very sad. He was one of my favorite drivers and now hes gone. RIP Colin. :(

That video posted on the last page of the XGames was pure awesome. Good ol Colin. :)

Absolutely gutted. I was away in Rome when I got a text from a friend telling what had happened and was stunned. He was a top bloke who was always positive - My lasting memory of him will be talking to BBC tv presenter Tony Mason and being asked if he was going to make up time in the tricky final stages. The reply was always "No problem Tony".

I have photo I took of him in the snow at the RAC rally back in the early 90's in a Legacy. I'll try to find it and scan it at work.
