Good Luck OSU. Good Luck Coach Meyer, here's hoping you can take down that team from the North in your 1st OSU / Michigan rivalry game !!!

I'm bias

Seriously speaking, this is going to be a great one to watch. I'm a little :nervous: about this one. We'll see what happens this Saturday.

edit : Blitz, I know you mentioned this, but how do you really feel about it ? You ready to make a big move ?

Rutgers / Maryland to join the Big 10 ?

I'm back from a break.

A One Point loss last night in Morgantown versus the Oklahoma Sooners. Wow...what a game. But if Joe DeForest (our DC) is not fired at the end of the year, I will be sad.

We ARE STILL not bowl eligible. This has gotten from bad to worse. There is absolutely no chance for Geno to win the Heisman and we have no motivation. Illinois is doing even worse.

HOW IN THE HELL did Stanford hold Oregon to 14 points? If we could hire David Shaw as a DC, we would.

Honestly I would prefer if they stayed put because they will get trounced for the first few years in the Big 10 (actually, maybe for a long time). If they can secure better recruits though it would be a godsend. They are still disrespected in the Big East (as even in the BCS right now they are still behind Louisville).

THIS JUST IN...

I read on Twitter that Maryland's regents have approved of the University of Maryland to join the Big Ten. Date of joining is undetermined, though.

Which means Rutgers will soon join as well, UConn to the ACC is imminent. The Big East has officially fallen.

Is the Big Ten going to stick with the Big Ten moniker now after adding Maryland and if rumors are true, Rutgers?

Maybe I think too much about region in regards to conferences. To me, the SEC doesn't make sense region-wise for Missouri. They'd be a better fit in the Big Ten. Rutgers in the Big Ten is... a bit wrong region-wise. Normally when I think of Rutgers, I think of the New York City market (even for a New Jersey school), which seems a better regional fit for the Big East as opposed to the Big Ten. Now while not a "Midwest" locale, I even think the University of Pittsburgh would be a good fit for the Big Ten.

I don't know. Maybe I'm old or old fashioned. Maybe conferences these days are more about just gathering certain schools together rather than certain conferences by region. So maybe we should think of Boise State as an "eastern" school, since they'll be in the Big East for football.

Once one conference started poaching it was a matter of time sadly. I really wish Rutgers wasn't going to the B10 though.

You know, there is a word that really means something in college football- money. College football is a money sport. Rutgers to the Big Ten will probably mean more money for Rutgers University as well as for the University of Maryland. The impact of such moves can also impact other sports. So Rutgers to the Big Ten means they'll have to contend with teams like Michigan and Ohio State in football, and then on the basketball front, they'll be in conference play against teams like Michigan State and Indiana.

I think I saw on ESPNU's "College Football Daily" that Rutgers will announce their plans on Tuesday. Times are a changin'.

Its a formality though. The writing was on the wall once Maryland accepted. I just hope that they can build on these past 6 years and not be relegated to another doormat.

I can see your point about getting bounced around ... to a degree. Granted, your not going to come to the Big 10 and just kick ass as a new comer, but you'll win some games here. The Big 10 is not the Big 10 of old wherein it once was the powerhouse of NCAA Football. We are all aware of where that power has shifted to. With that being said, I think teams like Rutgers and Maryland could fit in this division and be competitive in a couple of years. Things to keep in mind about the Big 10 as opposed to the Big East are quite substantial. The Market area being the most noticeable of all.

From Wiki :

The Big Ten Network (BTN) is an American regional sports network dedicated to the Big Ten Conference, jointly operated by the conference itself and Fox Sports, and is the first internationally distributed network dedicated to covering a single college conference. The network's lineup includes telecasts of Big Ten events, archived events involving Big Ten schools, studio shows, coach's shows, documentaries, and other programming related to the conference.
The network currently reaches approximately 40 million households nationwide and is available up to an estimated 73 million households in the United States and Canada.[1] It is headquartered in the former Montgomery Ward & Co. catalog building at 600 W. Chicago Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.[2]
The network currently has agreements with more than 300 providers.[3] It is carried nationally on DirecTV and Dish Network; and regionally on AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FiOS, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Insight Communications, Mediacom Communications, Time Warner Cable, Cable One, Cablevision and several others. In Canada, it is available on Shaw Direct, Shaw Cable, Rogers Cable, and East Link. The network is available on cable in 19 of the 20 largest U.S. media markets.[4]

Quite the area. With this type of coverage comes more exposure. More exposure brings more $$$. More $$$ brings more notoriety. More notoriety brings more prospective players. It's a snowball effect. I think it could only make your Scarlet Knights more of a better known and respected team in the overall picture. We would welcome you. In fact, I seen where the Big 10 has openly accepted to having these additions to the network.

Have a peeksie at this and take a browse around. Kind of get a feel for this network if you want to.

Also, take a look at this one. It's from '11, but it gives you an insight as to what can had by coming into this division. I feel confident in saying that this is substantially more than what you can get from the Big East.

As John said, College Football is about $$$.

Good Luck to your Knights in what ever may pan out here in the future.

Watch, in a few years you and I will have an intense rivalry (a la Omnis and Myself) and we won't be able to talk civilly .

Nah, no problem bud 👍. Our rivalry is with the U of M, all else is just hard core Big 10 football.

I do not like them, but I do respect them :

Michiganstillsucks.jpg

Our most likely rival will be Penn State, or Maryland. Unless Boston College goes to the Big "10".

For what it is worth, while I believe the Big 12 is pretty much settled for the time being, there was talk of adding Louisville at some point.

From Justins' link, it appears that Blitz's Knights are officially a member of the Big 10.

However, it's unknown how much more the Big East's future media rights will be worth compared to the Mountain West's after losing Rutgers to the Big Ten and another member to the ACC.

From the Big 10 network ...

Rutgers of the Big East is expected to soon follow, which would swell the Big Ten’s ranks to 14 schools.

I think your a "soon to be" member of the Big 10 Blitz. Welcome aboard. Now which division will they be placed in ? The Legends or Leaders ?

Maybe Rutgers would be a "Legends" team. After all- Rutgers basically INVENTED college football. Think all the way back to the Rutgers vs. Princeton game back in 1800-something. The "Legends" vs. "Leaders" designations for the Big Ten is insane to begin with. Someone had two different division names that sounded much better. I forgot what someone else called the divisions before Legends and Leaders were established, but it was more creative and easier to understand than Leaders and Legends.

Maryland and Rutgers would give the Big Ten the (respective) markets of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, and the New York City market. So I would imagine this would be major markets for the Big Ten to cash in on.

1869 my friend. And apparently we are leaders as Maryland is. This means that Illinois has become Legendary.

Basically the only schools which ISN'T rumored to be going anywhere is Temple. USF, Louisville, UCONN and Cincinnati are all rumored to be going to the ACC. All non-members right now are rumored to be going back to their conferences.

Yeah except I live an hour from the ATLANTIC COAST in the fifth largest TV market in the country where we put 50,000 people in the stadium when we play the sisters of the deaf and blind, let alone a BCS team. Just ponder that.

Most likely, but not etched into stone, the biggest rumor is that restructure may be done geographically.

Have a look here

As far as the Legends and Leaders names go, a lot of names were discussed. Thoughts of using past coaches names, past player great names, locational names were brought up. Big 10 Commissioner Jim Delany had this to say.

"'Legends' is a nod to our history and to the people associated with our schools who are widely recognized as legends - student-athletes, coaches, alumni and faculty. 'Leaders' looks to the future as we remain committed to fostering leaders, the student-athletes who are encouraged to lead in their own way for the rest of their lives, in their families, in their communities and in their chosen professions," said Delany. "We're proud of our many legends and even prouder of our member institutions that develop future leaders every day."

Asked if Leaders and Legends was too bland, or not unique to the Big Ten, Delany responded,

"All of these things will engender discussion. We want to engage our fans. All I can tell you is that we thought long and hard about what not to do. We thought harder about what to do."

Once again Blitz, welcome to the Big 10. Best of luck to you my friend. See 'ya on the field in '14.

Word has it that ESPN signed a 12-year deal to showcase the NCAA FBS playoffs. That's the two semifinal games and the championship game. The FBS-level playoffs begin in the 2014 season.

Enjoy your college football this weekend as the regular season nears its end.

Toledo took down Akron on Tuesday night 35-23. The Akron Zips are 1-11 after their loss while Toledo is 9-3.

I am very interested in both Michigan at Ohio State and Notre Dame at USCal. As much as I love the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry, since Ohio State is postseason ineligible, I don't think this game carries that much more weight or importance. So I definitely think the Notre Dame at USCal game will be absolutely crucial.

A win by Notre Dame obviously locks up UND for the BCS National Championship game. But what if Notre Dame loses at USCal? What would BCS National Championship game be then? A lot of questions could be answered by the end of this week.

The OSU -vs- Michigan game has a lot going for it this year ... more so if you are a Wolverine fan. This is a must win game for the Wolverines. Right now, they trail the Legends division leader (Nebraska) by one game.

Nebraska : 9-2 / 6-1
Michigan : 8-3 / 6-1

A win for Michigan keeps them in the hunt for the Big 10 playoff game, a loss and they are done. If Michigan loses it would then be Wisconsin -vs- Nebraska going for the title. Michigan is going to need some help here though. If they win and Nebraska wins, Nebraska goes on. Michigan will need the help of Iowa to help them get there. Iowa -vs- Nebraska @ Iowa. So right now, the Michigan faithful have their eyes on 2 locations this weekend, Columbus and Iowa City. It's going to be tough, but not impossible for Michigan to get to the top to play for the Big 10 Championship.

For OSU ... well, many here are calling this our '12 Bowl game. We look to punctuate this season by being able to hit the 12-0 plateau by capping it off with a win against the rival Wolverines. Let's send the seniors out on a good note shall we. The uniforms for OSU this weekend will be the Nike Pro Combat Rivalry. A bit different, but somewhat kind of cool. ---> uniforms

Wow, just wow. Notre Dame going on the road to square off against USC. This game will have the eyes of the nation on it. If N.D. wins ... great ... fantastic, love it. If they lose, then all hell will break lose in the BCS. 'Bama fans are pulling for the Trojans, Georgia fans are pulling for a loss by both N.D. and 'Bama so they can slide up into the #1 spot.

Week #12 .... OMG, this will be sooooo interesting to see what pans out.

Good luck to your team(s) this weekend. Have a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy College Football week #12. It's going to be very, very good.

Plenty of football going on today. That even includes a game at Eastern Michigan where the field is covered in snow. It's a beautiful day at the University of Iowa. However, it's also very windy there today. Lot of other games coming up later today and tonight, including West Virginia at Iowa State among others.

Last night, TCU went into Texas and simply outplayed the Longhorns with an upset win. Seems like the fanfare from the United States Grand Prix on Sunday was missing from the crowd at D.K.R. Memorial Stadium last night.

Enjoy your college football, and good luck to all of your team(s).

I'm excited to see if Stanford can put out another win this week. I was absolutely ecstatic when they beat Oregon in OT.

Edit: As it stands, they're projected to be in the Rose bowl. Thats what I'm talking about.

Andrew who? Toby who?

Double Edit: My bad to stop the discussion- I forgot that the Pac-12 isn't that important to everyone else.

Please Holgerson, tell your guys to man up and destroy Iowa State tonight. Please...I don't want to end the season fighting for bowl eligibility...

Among recent winners, congratulations to West Virginia as well as CAM's ECU Pirates. Congratulations to all other Friday winners up to and beyond the time of this post.
