They previously promised under 3000lbs. As I mentioned in a previous post, I thought they had said the car had lost Msomewhere around 400 or 500 lbs, which would put it somewhere around 2800lbs.

Mind posting a link to prove that claim exists?

I thought I remembered seeing it in the debut video, something about the car loosing 400 lbs. Unless I mistook it for something else...

I just wished I bought the batmobile....

Funny, I remember saving this photo a long time ago thinking hmm, that looks different but oddly fitting.
It's a kit by California Corvettes I think, kind of interesting how it has a lot of C7 cues in it.

Any additional information on that body kit? I am very interested in this. Looks sweet.

Frankly, I can't stand Wellburn or any of the designs put forth under his watch.

As far as Stingrays are concerned, for me there is only one:

'Pic of C3 Stingray'

This is the 'only' Stingray.

While the C3 is my favorite generation, you are correct. The split-window C2 is the only real Stingray, because it's the only one which actually has that sting.

Really? Why is that? I'm curious.

Look at them. With the exception of perhaps the Camaro, they're all hideous. Even the Camaro is bad on the inside. Actually, I should say that they're not entirely hideous, but there are little things that ruin most of them. The Lacrosse, for instance, is over-chromed. I don't know how Welburn didn't veto those silly hood vents either.

Further, I just don't like the way he is. I think he oversells his designs. It reminds me of small breweries that make beer that isn't very good, but they carry on about it just because it's "craft" beer. He's like a steakhouse that carries beef that's marked prime and has a high pricetag even though you couldn't tell it from a choice cut because of the way they've cooked it. Granted, Welburn is an improvement over the last guy, but the products still fall short for me. All of the designs he's overseen are like burnt, well-done Kobe/Tajima/Wagyu palomilla steaks. Defeats the purpose.

Funny quote:

Ed Welburn
I'm not going to talk much about the new C7, but I will say it's one of the toughest assignments for a designer. You don't want to be the person who ruined the Corvette. And yet it needs to evolve and stay fresh and relevant. We asked designers from every center to submit ideas, and it was fascinating to see what came in from, say, Australia and India. That was the culture and global organization at work. When I visit those studios, I still see Corvette sketches mounted proudly above desks.

He IS that person though. Frankly, it looks like he took two different designs and frankensteined them together. Wish I could see the preliminary submissions.

You know how they say, "one step forward, two steps back?" That's the way I feel about this car design-wise. The front and the sides are nice to me. Its rear is bloody terrible. Part of me kind of thinks this car's design and profile are somewhat like the new Viper, only the new Viper looks better by leaps and bounds. Circular tail lights have always been a trademark of the Corvette to me. I would think this is some other car if you look at the tail lights of the Corvette C7. Shoot me down if I'm too much a purist, but I'm disappointed in this car's design. It looks better than the C6, and even with retractable headlights (which I've never liked to be honest), I fancy the C5 more than the C6 and C7 as far as modern Corvettes are concerned.

I am not going to knock the Corvette on its performance. After all, no matter how beautiful or ugly a car looks, its performance defines its character and its true personality. This Corvette does not disappoint in the various performance categories.

When I get to my laptop, I'll type a thorough reply to you both. For the time being, I will say this. If the lights remained circular, it would first of all clash with the shape of the car, as people's photoshop renditions around the web demonstrated, and it would not move the design forward in anyway. It would be a C6 1/2, and in the end be forgettable among the slew of sports cars emerging everyday.

I like how the people who like the C7 said their part and left, but the people who don't sit here incessantly complaining.

I love the C7. But the whole entire outer dimensions of the back end were just off watching it go down the road. Maybe seeing one in real life will paint a better picture for me.

The thing looks incredibly ugly with silver wheels. The black wheels help it a bit. Still, the car is absolutely hideous.

I'm too tired to try and type out everything, so tomorrow. But, I do like the design. And over time it continues to warm over on me. I think Welburn is a very smart guy, and as a designer it's more than pleasing a small crowd. His job was to take the car into the next decade, because that's how long this car will sit on the shelf. We won't see a new Vette until like, 2023.

Again, doing the same rounded tail light special would not have worked, and it would have been a stale design that did not take it farther than a few years, and it would have been easily overshadowed by better designs from cars that perform similarly to it.

The interior is amazing. Something that with all the complaints, I don't see anyone using it as a reason they don't like it. And the front is pure C6 1/2 Vette. The rear, while not rounded from some previous generations, are very Corvette/GM/Chevy like, and that was the goal. When lit, they look awesome. I admit, the rear lights arent the greatest thing ever done ever on a car, but they aren't omg "Corvette iz dead!" bad, as some would like you to believe.

I remember how much better it looked without the black vents on each side (thanks to that render posted ITT) but they do serve a function, and that I can live with that.

But, in the end, we all have our opinions. No one is right or wrong. Sales will determine if Welburn's C7 is a hit, and I'd bet all my baseball cards that this new Vette sells even better than the C6 did.

Oh, I'd love to drive one. Mostly for the same reason Guy de Maupassant always had lunch in the eiffel tower-- because it was the only place where he couldn't see the eyesore.

I think the Viper's interior is better. Never thought I'd say that.

I still get the sneaking suspicion we've been Bangled. Opinions are strong on either side of the love/hate divide, and I can go either way depending on the colour and angle, but like the first Z4 or the E60, it looks modern. Will it age as well as those, though?

Finally figured out what the strange colouring scheme of the black A-pillar/roof combo reminds me of; an mk2 Elise.
