I just picked up this special edition Motor Trend on the magazine shelf for $7. If you are into Corvettes I recommend it. It's all about the Stingray history from then till now, tech info and in depth look into the C7 in all aspects. It looks like this.

Tried to find a copy and couldn't sadly.

Perhaps it's a cheaper model? I thought I had read somewhere that the Stingray was intended as a trim level for the base model.
You are thinking about the Corvette coupe, which will have a fixed roof and a 5.3L V8 engine.

I'm think the same thing. I don't see them coming out already with a more hardcore Z06 and race car version cause the Z06/C7R were just released a few months ago they want people to still be them and not the newer models.

I agree could be a cheaper model, who knows. But as far as a more hardcore Z06 (Z06X) it would be for an entire different focus group. It would be a fully bare bones, stripped out interior, no AC or radio, rough riding track only purpose car.

I couldn't see that taking sales away from someone who wants a regular Z06 with all its amenities and luxuries. Almost two totally different market groups. Plus the Z06X would have a low production number.

As one recalls, the Stingray concept from a few years back (of Transformers fame) was a hybrid model. In theory, GM could convert their Two-Mode hybrid system to do duty in the Corvette, but, I was under the impression that it was shelved after the slow sales on the GMT900s and BMW axing their version on the X5/X6.

I'd love to see GM do something similar to a KERS system on the Corvette, start pushing some tech boundaries like they used to.

The 'Vette has been pushing tech boundaries since the C4. I believe I'm correct in saying the C4, C5, C6, and now C7 have all had 'worlds first' tech.

I can't see a Z06X happening, not this early. The concept built by Pratt & Miller for the last generation didn't even enter production (nor the SS-X) when the model was already well established with buyers, why would they build one now?

I haven't seen anything hinting at it either, other than a quote by Harlan Charles:
The idea was a non-street-legal, factory-built track car, and that is something that we are considering would be a great thing to apply to the new Corvette Z06," Charles said. "I mean that's something we could see in the future. We've got a lot of ideas, but nothing to show today, unfortunately.

Everyone else is just speculating one because there was a concept for the C6 generation (much like everyone predicted a ZR1 for that reason before GM announced that wasn't the case).

Z06X is basically coming as the Z07.

One of the rumors floating around is that the NYIAS car could be a Grandsport version, which I'd like to see instead of a Z06 convertible.

Z06 Convertible it is...

Well, that's something that we all should of guessed and no one did.

The fact that its give/take the same weight as the standard Z06 is pretty substantial as well.

So, if you're a middle-aged, overweight, balding man who doesn't want to be seen listening to the Moody Blues, don't buy this one.

So it is... Oh well looking forward to seeing it in person anyways.

Yet another car I can probably add to the GF's "Can I have one?" list.

I wish they would have kept this model the ZR-1. Z06 just doesn't fit the new car, IMO. People are saying the Z06 will weigh at least 3500lbs. The C6 version was just over 3100. Add the automatic and the convertible top....ugh...

🤬!
I'm disappointed, I was really wishing it was the cheaper base model coupe. :banghead: And I don't like convertibles that much, I have a few exceptions but Vette is not one of them.

You know, usually I don't like convertibles. Add that with the fact that they're more expensive then hardtops make me want them even less. But this one is effing gorgeous. 👍

Blah. I'm all for options but they are straying far from the Z06 roots. There is already a removable targa top for the C7 Z06, I really didn't see a vert coming. I'm not a fan of convertibles, the only exception being a hardtop convertible but not at the expense of added weight.

Exactly my point, the targa top is easily enough. Yet GM seems to be playing the probable majority that are buying this car a symbol and not for what it can fully do. Sad but obviously a reality about to come true.

I do agree it's odd they chose a vert for this model since they've been against it from the beginning but it is damn sexy.
