Jan is a hell of a driver. I hope that the Z06 runs at least a 7:15, but it would be cool if runs a sub 7:10 at the ring. I want to see the numbers there and at VIR. I really want to see what the Z06 does there.

Thank you for saying VIR, I wasn't sure if I should have said that or Seca so I just left out both and did a vague "various other tracks" but yes VIR for sure.

I have a feeling that the Z06 will be heading to Seca since the C6 Z06 and the ZR1 both went there. My guess is that Randy will also be the one driving it, and if he does, I hope that he gives his opinion on which of the two he prefers (Z06 vs C6 ZR1).

Yeah I think that would help quite a bit, I already think the car is going to feel more planted and stable due to the aero function over the last cars but the balance will be key.

If I recall correctly, Pratt & Miller said that the C7R has far more structural rigidity than the C6R and is also a far more stable platform. Since late C6R tech carried over to the Z06 and ZR1, I expect the same to carry over to the C7 Z06. I think that GM built the Z06 with the goal of beating all of the records set by the C6 ZR1, and to be honest, that's what I'm expecting this C7 to do.

This too I remember reading about this not sure if it was Race car Engineering or somewhere else but yes I feel that will play a part in it as well.

Building 8L90 transmissions at work for this car and I swear I wouldn't be surprised if they have recall on everything with the 8L90...

Our casting provider keeps giving us bad castings for the clutch housings and they're full of porosity. GM's pushing for parts so hard that GM's pretty much told to screw it send them through anyways.... I cringe every time I see how bad some of these parts are that we're pushing through.. That's just my 2 cents though.. Maybe the porosity isn't as bad as I'm making it out to be...

There's some issues at GM at the moment I gather

I guess nobody remembers the c6 zo6 with zo7 package weighed almost 3400lbs in every magazine test

Yes the C6 Z06 gained weight in the later years. The '06 was just over 3100 lbs. The late models gained weight through the different packages, 1LZ, 2LZ, 3LZ.
The wheels and shocks, navigation, upgraded leather, seats, etc all carried weight. I've heard discrepancy about the weight of the C6Z06 Z07 package, it depends on the options.
I've read in the range of 3250- 3320 lbs.

BTW I'm very happy and not surprised on the base $78k C7Z price. GM stated if you could afford a C6Z06 you could afford a C7Z. And they also said fully optioned would be right under 100k. Glad it turned out true. I'm very impressed. I'd take the base and add the Z07 package with the aggressive aero, carbon fiber, CC brakes and cup tires.

I'm amazed you can get a 650hp/650 trq C7Z06 that's been MUCH improved for the same price as the 505hp C6 Z06 was. On top of that the C7Z will be faster than the ZR1.

I would like to see an image, but I doubt you can do that. I don't doubt that some of them are ending up porous if they're casting them far too quickly.

I'd love to but I think that would compromise my job. This is the 2nd casting company we've dealt with, the first company was just a disaster when it came to porosity/cracked and damage castings getting delivered to us.
We're now getting them from a company called Allied castings. Hopefully they steadily get better but man, what a crazy few months it's been with these 8L90's...

That's why I said I doubt you can, cause you'd probably be out of a job and have trouble finding a new one.

I really like how they went with the clear taillights, it looks less Camaro'ish this way. Only thing that I'd do is paint the entire rear paint matching color. I just don't like the blocky look with the lower part painted black. And I would have the front wide fenders body color and material to match the rear instead of the black trim piece. My only little gripes.

But I must say as much as I hate soft top convertibles, the Z06 is one mean and sexy looking vert.

The C7 looks awful ugly to me, no matter which version. In my opinion, Chevrolet has been taking big steps backwards on the exterior looks since the C5 was introduced. The C5 was damn near perfect and its been downhill since. The only thing that has improved since the C5 is the interior. The C7 has a awesome interior. Performance has obviously improved each generation too but that goes without saying.

The C5 hasn't aged well. It's nineties-tastic.

Yeah I still don't like the exterior either. Seems like many have grown used to it or have changed their minds on what they think of it. As when it first was presented I heard almost nothing but hate for the design and now it's beautiful to most of those same people. Looking at the car I think the only thing I like is looking at the car straight on from the side.

Can't argue with it's price or performance though.

I also think the C5 > C6 >C7 in appearance.

The same argument could be made for every previous generation. They all look dated eventually. Its simply a matter of what's pleasing to your eyes and everyone has their own opinion.

Every generation Corvette looks very 'of its age'

The C1 is super 50s
The C2 is mostly 60s
The C3 is super 70s
The C4 is ULTRA 80s
The C5 is super 90s
The C6 is super 00s

With that being said, I honestly don't think there has ever been a bad looking Corvette. The C2 is just about the only one that approaches timeless design, but they all look great despite being dated. Just as I think that they've all looked good, I also think that every model (except the C7) has a woefully bad interior (C3 being by the far worst). I actually like the C4 best I think. It was the first Corvette that GM didn't simply phone-in. They went through considerable effort to make it a world class car. They didn't quite achieve that, but just compare the C3 to the C4. It's probably a bigger technological leap forward than C4 to C7 even. A C4 ZR-1 or a C5 Z06 would be a welcome car in my driveway for sure.

I've seen exactly 4 C7's and my jaw continues to drop. Don't like the amber turn signals though.

I rather like the C5, actually. The later C3 models are likely my least favourite generation. I think the C5 is quite attractive, actually. It's aged well, and while it looks very 90's, it manages to pull it off well, which is incredible given that most cars of a more plebian nature wear their 90's-ness terribly.

I agree. It's actually my least favorite version

The C5 hasn't aged well, but it was a huge leap forward in the Corvette's design. Transmission in the back, torque tube in the middle, and dozens of other changes. I would argue that it's been the single biggest leap forward since the car's inception.
