I thought about this earlier. One of the hallmarks of the Corvette is great potential for aftermarket upgrades.

On the current crop of GM smallblock V8's, the cylinder deactivation uses a special set of lifters to deactivate half of the cylinders.

These lifters cannot handle aggressive cam lobes or high lift. They are a limiting factor for many builds and many remove the DOD functionality completely in order to run a more desirable cam. This is expensive and time consuming because it requires popping the heads off.

I wonder if the new Z06 is getting closer to European sports levels of cost to upgrade. Assuming the lifters are like they used to be, You won't be able to just shove a $400 cam in there and gain ~80whp.

If I could buy it I would remove the rear wing/spoiler pronto.

If you're concerned with looks over performance, a Corvette Z06 probably isn't for you...

That being said the spoiler looks great on it. If I were to get a standard C7 id get the carbon aero package that includes that.

If I would buy it I don't think I'll take it to a racing circuit. So I'll never drive it to it's full potential (apart from in a straight line). And very few people that would buy it and take it to a circuit. So for driving it on the street, even if you break the law a little here and there, you will not drive it to where that little thing would make a difference. Plus, on a drag strip that spoiler wouldn't be a good thing for it's performance.

Proof you don't need a Z06 to have a badass looking Corvette. The wheels on this Stingray make it look sexy as hell. Probably lowered a tad too

The whole C pillar area on the C7 doesn't look quite right. Kind of ruins the profile of the car to me, which is a shame because the front is glorious.

GM is claiming some big numbers for the C7 Z06. For the automatic, the car is supposed to hit 0-60 in 2.95 seconds along with a 10.95 (@127 mph) second quarter mile. The manual is claiming to hit 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and is expected to to the quarter in 11.2 seconds (also at 127 mph.) The Z06 is also claiming to stop fast as well- the 60-0 distance is claimed to be 99.6 feet. This is per Car And Driver magazine.

While I can't afford this car, I do love the fact it's causing the current C6 market to become stocked with pristine Z06s for not crazy amounts of money.

Chu thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?

:D

I'm thinking I need to find a way to afford a C7 Z06 in two years.
Unlikely though...

I've always toyed with the idea of a C6 Z06 though too among many other cars. ;)

I'm thinking that my parents should have waited a couple years to buy a used Z06 instead of buying a brand new Chevrolet Traverse a couple months ago. Slightly ironic I say that now because my dad was looking at buying a C4 Corvette a little bit ago but didn't because he didn't have the money on hand.

Cross-shopping a Traverse and a Z06?

My dad wanted a used sports car, but my mom wanted a Traverse ever since my sister got hers. Mom wound up winning that battle. It won't really matter in the end though because my dad is probably going to start working on his '63 GMC truck soon, and most of his leftover money will go to restoring that.

For the money being asked for a C7, admittedly, there's a few other cars I would shoot for, some even just slightly more expensive.

I think the C6 Z has probably won my decision though as to what I can gets hold of.
