Course Maker in GT6?

I just had the realization that having some sort of GPS feature to "map out" routes in my town could lead to serious real world consequenses...

Like turning for corners FAR to early and hitting the curbs because I'm not going fast enough

Or running over a curb on corner exit

That's exactly what I was thinking of. Plus overtaking in a bad seen curve just to record a good chicane or something... anyway I'm so looking forward to this feature!

When PD talked about intending to release monthly DLC on GT6, would that also include course maker themes?
Just curious that's all :)

Yes, he did. Kaz said that more locations like that of the one we saw that stretches tens of kilometers would be offered through DLC. In terms of paying for it, no one knows. Also, I don't know if these Course Maker locations would be offered monthly. Only cars and tracks seems to have that confirmation.

Their DLC sounds ambitious, and expensive. :scared:

I don't think they're going to charge you for course maker stuff.

I would guess that you'll have to pay for it. Mapping out an entire city or small region accurately will take a massive programming effort and I don't think they'll be doing it for free. Maybe one to whet the appetite but I'm guessing they'll wrap them up with cars and/or tracks to make some well rounded DLC packs. I don't think there will be a lot of free content this time around.

Thanks for answering guys :)
It would be cool to see themes added as DLC (as long as they're used online, in Seasonal events and maybe something else), but I wouldn't expect it be be more than 3 or 4 AU dollars

Touche :scared:

Also, I'd like to see them expand the GT rally championship special event they had in GT5, and the ability to create one-way tracks (which was scrapped in GT5 due to memory issues :()

You do know the driving is done on the track which is the road? And 15 custom tracks isn't a lot. I only use about 5 different custom tracks for drifting specifically for the past year as I've been playing/driving/drifting less and hardly racing.

Fake Turns?

Same tree?

WhaT?

I know you drive on the road, but sometimes drivers make mistakes, and when the wall is right there and there is no punishment for it really. But in real world tracks, you get into the sand, or there's a nice runoff area, there's variety its the same exact thing every single corner.

Yes in course maker the same tree is repeated over and over... It lacks realism.

For the GT6 course maker, I hope it feels more real, then I might be able to drive some of its tracks.

Reading this it reminds me of something I meant to ask. I wonder if the old version of the course maker is shelved completely now or will we still be able to make up complete fantasy courses? If they only have Andalusia at release day, and the GPS part turns out not to be what we think it is, we'll only have one area to fool around with. It'll be good for a while as I probably won't get to it too quick while exploring the rest of the game, so I wonder how this will play out.

From what I've read the current one (or a revised or completely new version) still exists, as they've mentioned it being improved with more possibilities (including scenery).
The Andalucia map is simply a new aspect (maybe there are even more maps like it although I doubt that) and the GPS function seems like an expansion using the course creator itself to turn the imported data into a track.

I really really doubt Andalucia will be the only new area.

I believe Toscana etc. will either be scrapped and replaced or just improved on.

Obviously they've changed the creation algorithm, so it won't be as painful to create GOOD tracks as it is now.

If I remember right he said in the announcement that this was "one of the new" environments and that they had reworked the creation algorithm so I think this just adds on top of what we already have.

On the issue.of price I wouldn't be surprised to see environments selling for $10-$15USD because if they are really as big as it seems theyre practically an add on mini game.

That Andalucia map isn't a new theme like the current Tuscany/Aso ones for example, which are basically just landscapes you can create a track through with some buildings in the background, but it's a completely new element.
The real roads that exist in that map are to be used to select (not create) a route and you can actually drive though (hopefully large) parts of that town as well which might be epic on a whole new scale.
It won't replace the existing system of themes but an extra addition.

It'd be cool if you could have overlapping sections. Then you just select every street and BOOM a sort of free roam.

Maybe it'll already offer a 'free roam' option in that you can explore it freely (if only to experience the sections you want to use beforehand, nevermind that this would be a great aspect in itself), I imagine when creating/selecting a track/route, then it'll automatically block all other roads.

It really bugs me how the fence is right on the edge of the track, and how fake the turns are... I have never enjoyed a custom track, and i have been around about 10-15 different ones, they are all the same.
I thought this would be my experience too, but it ended up being the opposite. When I got frustrated over not being able to race the Eiger track in Arcade Mode, I decided back in March to give the Course Maker a try. My first track ended up being a long, windy road course which became my favorite track in the game, next to the Ring. The fence is only near the track in parts, as is the case in some real life courses, and the turns aren't fake at all, at least much different than any other track in GT. The only downer to me is that Mt Aso seems to make endless variations of the same loop.

If anyone has scoped out some of the videos in the Course Maker board, it's capable of generating some very interesting and fun locations to give you no end of new tracks to master. Needless to say, I'm very interested in what new tools we'll have to play with in GT6, and I'm hoping we can transfer our existing tracks over to enjoy those new physics with them.

He should try some of my tracks. I spend hours, literally, on creating them. Even if I spend 4-5 hours on one, if it's not to my liking or I can't seem to get one thing right that I want changed, I move on to another.

In any case, add me to the list of being curious about the GPS system. If it truly is using a GPS to map out a course using input from a real car.....wow. I would even spend a weekend driving all the way back to my home state just to map out my home course.

On the E3 thread, Feldynn found something quite interesting on the official Playstation Blog website !

"The course maker will also include a new GPS data feature, which will increase the freedom of track creation in the game."

Perhaps our dreams could become true...

haha Did you not read the rest of this thread? It's been discussed at length. That article was made after the 15 year anniversary event held back in May.

That possibly real temporary cover also cited the GPS feature on its back...

Since June, this thread seems to be in "hibernation" mode.
Nevertheless, there is a new hopeful element: the Goodwood Hillclim track. That makes me think (or hope) that perhaps point to point Special Stages (like rally, hillclimb) may be possible in the new trackcreator, given that such a feature will be in the game for Goodwood.

I hope there will be some interest among the players for rally-like special stages time-trials. I tried some events of that kind in GT5, but it revealed to be very complex to organize them: a starting procedure making sure everybody starts at the right moment and next after the race, you have to calculate the results.

Could be great in the Andalusia environment.

At this point, and after 15 years of seeing PD make many decisions that don't make any logical sense, I'd say point to point is no more or less likely than if the Goodwood Hillclimb was or wasn't in the game. Kaz could have easily put Goodwood into the game for financial reasons, sentimental reasons, was asked by a friend or business acquaintence to do it, or even purely on a whim. I'm hoping we do get it, and more touge type tracks to go with it, but I won't hold my breath waiting for it. :sly:

Would be really cool if we got a full editor. Then PD could hold a "Create your best track" competition. The person who designs the track that PD likes most gets their track featured as DLC or in the next generation of GT 👍

That sounds really awesome and exciting. :D Would like to have this if GT PS4 has a full course maker.

PD charging us for more fantasy tracks? No thank you, GT needs more real world tracks.

I'd love for a competition to happen and the winner gets his/her track in PS store as DLC. It would be optional for people to buy... like all DLC is..

Some people on GTplanet alone have amazing artistic abilities and I'm sure they could create some amazing circuits for the game... with the right tools of course! 👍

Don't be so soon to shoot down your fellow community.

I see what you mean. But I must say that I will be very disappointed if they do not put a point to point time attack online racing mode in the game. It wouldn't be such an effort. All there is needed for is available if they put Goodwood in the game. Let's wait and see.
