According to one poll, only 64% of Americans would get the vaccine for COVID-19. 22% said they're unsure and 14% said they'd refuse it.

https://morningconsult.com/form/coronavirus-outbreak-tracker/#section-99

Imagine having a potential safeguard from a disease and outright refusing it.
I take my annual flu shot. But if there was a new vaccine for Covid-19 sitting on the table n front of me, I wouldn't take it. Since I'm quarantining safely with no issues, I'd continue to do that until the safety and efficacy of the new vaccine was proved.

Only 76% respond favorable to kittens???
That should be 100%. The world truly has gone mad. How can someone not like kittens and the cuteness and the sideways dance and the little beans and the energy and the...
You get the point. :lol::lol::lol:

Did she take that as a racially charged retort, when he would've said it to anyone else? Yeah. Does it excuse her original question about comparing US numbers to the rest of the world being deflected into a "Blame China" response? No.

It also doesn't excuse that when he calls on the British (I'm guessing) reporter, he says he bypassed her b/c she didn't respond in the .0002 seconds fast enough.
Edit* Watching it again, I see it's because she decided to not be rude & speak over the original reporter when she decided to respond again.

Amen. Trump does not behave like a reasonable mature adult. He doesn't behave even like somewhat mature adult. The greatest trick Trump ever pulled (and he's pulled a lot of them) is convincing hard working, blue collar people all across the country (but particularly the south and midwest) that a silver-spoon fed, exceedingly thin-skinned, New York City playboy slumlord who's never worked an actual job (not suggested he hasn't found success) is their guy. I just don't understand it.

That's just the art of the deal.

The US government had moved on from the money tree and somehow found an entire damned forest of money trees.

$2,000 Per Person Plus $2,000 Per Child: Monthly Economic Crisis Support Act Would Send Payments To Over 90% Of Americans

It apparently works out to be about $304,000,000,000 per month if it passes. That's $304 billion every single month.

My family alone would get $6,000 a month since we jointly make less than $200k. I don't even know what I'd do with that much extra money coming in. Probably buy something ridiculous or at the very least a new car.
I've got some bills that could be paid off easily. But if this is going to screw me come tax time they can keep it.

I love how Weijia Jiang is somehow supposed to not look Asian before she took the mask off. Playing the "playing the race card" card...
If she didn't want "to play the race card" why did she remove her mask asking why is he telling that to her "specifically". When he blames China for weeks now.
The question was dumb and clearly provocative. One thing that you need to push when reopening is testing so you can have a clearer picture of what is going on. Yet some claver journalist have to question that too.. for whatever reason.

So a person with a track record of racism, who’s used the same racist phrase for weeks now gets a pass because she removed her mask before challenging him on it? Trump doesn’t need to be baited to be racist (not that it’s a valid excuse either) and it’s perfectly clear that she is Asian even with the mask on.

The faulty logic in that line of reasoning is mind blowing, and that’s without the equally absurd defence of Trumps non-answer to a perfectly valid question and utter sulk when two other people allowed the other to continue.

All Trump had to do was clarify that he was absolutely not addressing this at Jiang in a racist way. Show a little humanity and compassion. Instead he was clearly put on the back foot by her question, leaving it up to other people to come out of the woodwork and excuse his childish tantrum. It's not a good look, especially when it's part of a pattern of such behaviour towards her.

No, it wasn't. She wasn't questioning the need to test. She was saying that it doesn't need to be a competition, one that incidentally even if it was, America wouldn't be #1 at anyway. It's the job of journalists to question disinformation, otherwise we might as well not have a press briefing and instead conduct White House addresses by Twitter.

Your comment make no sense. I was clearly talking about the journalist.
It sounds to me like anyone who ends up on the receiving end of racism is "playing the race card" these days if they complain and that some people think she should've just swallowed it and shut up. All Trump had to do was clarify that he was absolutely not addressing this at Jiang in a racist way. Show a little humanity and compassion. Instead he was clearly put on the back foot by her question, leaving it up to other people to come out of the woodwork and excuse his childish tantrum. It's not a good look.
She took her mask off and pointed out the "blame China" comment was targeted "specifically" towards her. Could it be more obvious?
No it wasn't. She wasn't questioning the need to test. She was saying that it doesn't need to be a competition, one that incidentally even if it was, America wouldn't be #1 at anyway.
No she wasn't. There is no competition to begin with. Asking 'why it needs to be a competition when so many people are dying' when there is no competition is dumb.

@Scaff's comment made perfect sense. It's a two sided conversation. I don't see why Trump should be immune from questioning while the journalist is left to face the spotlight alone. It sounds suspect to me.

She took her mask off and pointed out the "blame China" comment was targeted "specifically" towards her. Could it be more obvious?
As I pointed out Trump has a pattern of doing this to her, mask or no, so yes, something certainly sounds obvious...

No, it's a perfectly valid question. If there's no competition then why did he need to trumpet America's testing regime as the best in the world, especially when it isn't?

It makes perfect sense, and I'm talking about Trump's response to journalist and how his track record clearly highlights that he wasn't baited into anything, and even if he was that is no excuse (she made me be a racist - seriously).

No, she asked him if it was, and its a perfectly valid question to ask.

Yes it does make perfect sense to quote something and talk about other things.
No, she asked him if it was, and its a perfectly valid question to ask.
I won't question your point of view. But please convince me how that was a valid question.

How can you validate something based on assumption? And you don't really need to be in a race to point out you are doing something better than others.
As I pointed out Trump has a pattern of doing this to her, mask or no, so yes, something certainly sounds obvious...
Well I don't about their history. I can only have my opinion on this specific case.

How can you validate something based on assumption?
By asking the person in question whether your assumption is correct or not. That's exactly what Jiang did. All Trump had to do was deny it and explain that he didn't bring up China specifically because Jiang is a Chinese-American, even though he's done it before. But he didn't.

And you don't really need to be in a race to point out you are doing something better than others.
Pointing out you are doing something better than others (even though you aren't in this case) is the very definition of initiating competition. If you're walking down the street and somebody lines up beside you and starts jogging, did you start the race or did he?

Well I don't about their history. I can only have my opinion on this specific case.
If you want to ignore their history then there's nothing I can do. That sounds like "validation based on assumption" to me.

Look, I don't understand this need to paint the most powerful man in the Western world as some kind of bullying victim, especially when he has paid White House staffers to make excuses for him. Do I think that China was complicit in covering up the initial spread of the virus? Yes. Do I think that a Chinese person has a right to ask why that line of discussion is brought up seemingly out of nowhere in answer to an unrelated question? Yes.

It's like having a conversation on interventionism with a Jewish person and then all of a sudden blaming them for Israel occupying the West Bank. Or telling a German "you started it! You invaded Poland!".

The stimulus checks are not taxable income and are not an advance on any potential tax return you may receive next year. The money does not have to be paid back.

You taxes for 2020 will not be any different due to the stimulus package.

It's literally free money.

Why he need to challenge every single person that is obviously trying to provoke him?

You are right I am ignoring it. My opinion is biased. I still fail to see how the blame China is somehow racist towards a Chinese-American. And that makes me wonder.... why she needed to point that out.

Yes she has all the rights to question him and he has all the rights to end a press conference when he likes. Especially when he is asked dumb questions.( I really tried not to talk about him, my bad).

I was clearly referring to the interaction between both, you're the only person who seems unable to understand it.

I won't question your point of view. But please convince me how that was a valid question.
His track record of racist comments and his past interactions with the journalist in question make it a perfectly valid question.

The US isn't however leading the world in this, so it's valid, the Trump administration opened the door to questions of this nature by making the claim in the first place. If you claim to be leading the world in anything, then you open yourself up to that being questioned.

Well I don't about their history. I can only have my opinion on this specific case.
Then you opinion on this specific case is limited and flawed.

It sounds like English is not your first language and the points you are making aren't very convincing. If you don't want to address the specific points I made in my last email in response to your questions then I don't really see any point in continuing this conversation until you do.

I'll just say that honest questioning isn't provocation and that there was nothing dishonest about Jiang's initial or subsequent questions. Asking whether something is correct is not the same as trying to point out that it is. And I don't think she should be blamed for standing up for herself in the face of repeated incidents like this.

Is this this Covid-19 information and discussion thread? No. On this page it's over 90% the Trump/racism/personal accusations discussion thread. Thanks so much. Many if not all threads on this forum have this recurring distinction. I'm not complaining. And I'm not going to take it as a license to post off-topic material on this or any other thread. I am a freak in chains.

Back on topic, I'd like to see an up-to-date graphic of global Covid-19 infections, please.

If she didn't want "to play the race card" why did she remove her mask asking why is he telling that to her "specifically".

Because two people were speaking in the same space with their mouths covered. To make it clear she's still speaking she pulls the mask down and leads forward.

I don't know about anyone else but there was enough above the mask to guess her ethnic origins without needing to see her mouth or the tip of her nose. Was it an astonishing reveal for you?

Protests, arrests, new medical mysteries in children, and Governor Newsom slightly relaxes lockdown under political (voter) pressure.

I can't prove it due to lack of up-to-date graphics, but I think new confirmed infections are not shrinking, but maintaining steady progress.
Assuming total real infections including the very minor and subclinical are ~10x the confirmed rate, I imagine the pandemic and lockdown will continue through at least 2021 and possibly much beyond unless a safe and effective vaccine can be manufactured and administered in billions of doses.

It's becoming evident that that flattening the curve will only delay the infection rate based on spiking numbers of new cases in states that have reopened. I sadly think it's a combination of the people not fully following social distancing rules AND people blatantly thinking that since the lockdown ended, the threat has passed.

In my opinion, we are each of us responsible for our own health. So here is something positive we can do to improve our innate immunity and boost the immune function against viral diseases. Simply take vitamin D, but don't overdo it.

The daily number of confirmed cases in the US is shrinking, as is the daily mortality

Flattening the curve was only ever supposed to delay infections so we didn't nuke our healthcare systems. For the most part that worked just about everywhere except the east coast and Michigan. Unfortunately, we're probably going to end up back in some sort of lockdown to reflatten the curve.

Yes I am Italian. I am also still learning how to write properly. But I do try my best. Maybe I should think 10 times before posting. It's just that sometimes I got upset and the brain stop working. But those are my thoughts. I don't try to be convincing. I am just posting.

Of course honest questions are not provocation. Her question is far from honest though. I would really like to ask her what answer she expected. "Why it needs to be a competition when so many people are dying?" Do you really believe this is a honest question? That somehow an answer to that question would give anything to the table?
I don't know about anyone else but there was enough above the mask to guess her ethnic origins without needing to see her mouth or the tip of her nose. Was it an astonishing reveal for you?
Of course she didn't know she was on camera. And of course she didn't wanted to show the rest of the world she has Chinese origins specially after she heard the "ask China". Despite the mic was just in front of her. But of course she is now a victim.
