Also, Germany's numbers aren't actually representative of the actual situation, as it turns out that when someone with an underlying condition contracts Corona and dies, the underlying condition gets the confirmed kill sooner than Corona.

That is called creative accounting.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson to address UK nation from 8.30pm tonight, lockdown very likely as Boris has rushed through emergency laws.

My family drove up to up state NY to pick me up from college. There was basically no cars on the road in NY but as we got to Ohio and Kentucky, the highways were still busy as if nothing happened. Why aren't people staying at home?

We're going to self isolate for two weeks in case we caught it as we were travelling

In non-shocking news, IOC has decided to postpone the Tokyo Olympics to 2021 as multiple countries requested a delay and Canada withdrew from the Olympics. The only remaining major sporting event through early June that has not postponed/canceled is the Indy 500. With Indiana recently going into a lockdown, it's just a matter of time.

There is one fairly major sporting event still happening and that's Wrestlemania (I use the term 'sporting event' quite loosely for this!) I am a Wrestling fan and the show is still going ahead on April 5th but without a crowd, it was due to take place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa with a full crowd but will now take place at WWE's training complex with 'essential personnel' only for TV audience only.

That's probably not a bad thing. People need entertainment right now to keep their minds off what's going on, keep their morale up, and keep them at home. Hopefully, we see other sporting events start back up in May, just without an audience.

That's 2 months away, & I'm guessing the potential season opener for Indy. They're waiting to see.
"Our objective is to stay the course for now, and to see if it's possible to do it as scheduled mid-May," he continued.

"If that's not possible we'll find another date. But that's a decision we'll come to when it's clear what the future looks like.

"It's just too early to know what's possible," he said. "No one really knows when the conditions will return to the point where we will do racing or sports again.

Is a Bottle Shop the same as an Offie (Off Licence) then?
I'm not sure what an offie is but a bottle shop (more commonly know as a bottlo here) is either a drive thru or walk in alcohol seller. Most are at pubs.

... and definitely essential here!

Denmark is extending its semi lockdown status 'til end of Easter. At the same time, more than 21000 people have entered unemployment within the last week alone, despite the government pledging some 50 billion DKK to the work sector. Naturally, not all of the new unemployed people are a result of the shutdown, but various sources suggest a quadrupling of the numbers relative to those before the pandemic. But hey, I'm sure those people are perfectly happy losing their lively hoods for the sake of others.

And around the globe, people are begging to have their basic freedoms taken away. What a time to be alive.

Well Minnesota didn't decide to do a shelter in place today. (Although did say that the current 2 weeks of closures will be extended with the only exception of a shelter in place would override these conditions)

Cases are now 235 total and 1 death (Up 66 and most of these were from backlogged testing cases)
So tomorrow numbers would be about how much is it spreading now.
Also mentioned that 40-80% of us Minnesotans will have the virus. :banghead:

UK LOCKDOWN!!

People will only be allowed out for basic shopping essentials, exercising alone and travel to work.
Make use of food delivery 'when you can'
Shouldn't be meeting friends or socialising.
All non-essential shop such as clothing shops and electrical shop will close.
Police will have powers to disperse crowds and issue fines.

Wait, is that a drive thru beer store that was a shop?
They're generally purpose built additions to the pub in the car park area... and traditionally not far from the front bar (blue collar workers area) so you can grab your takeaways on the way to the car or just drive thru as you leave.

We haven't been put in a lockdown status yet, but I'm wondering, does it bar you from actually doing something outside? Like can you go for a walk or sit out on your patio assuming you're not around other people? I'm trying to be reasonably healthy through all of this and working from home pretty much means I get no real physical movement and that's bad. I've been trying to take a walk around lunchtime to get some fresh air and some movement.

How many of you are still going to work? I work at a gold mine and they only sent some office workers home so far. We get screened at security, our morning safety meetings are split up, and they send us underground in much smaller groups. That’s about all that has been done so far, there has been some talk of them shutting down but I have no idea.

My understanding is you can still take walks and stuff outside as long as it's not in a group and you don't really interact with other people.

We're operating as usual for now as it's pretty easy to work at least 6 feet from other people when doing duct work. However once the state inevitably goes under lockdown we will be restricted to retrofits of non-working furnaces.

The guidelines here are based upon how much risk you pose to other people - basically, you could spend all day outside if you wanted to, provided you stay away from other people.

The Government, however, expect people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary (a good idea for the most vulnerable) but expect people to be able to take one outdoor exercise period (a walk alone) per day, and are allowed out for shopping, medical supplies, or to care for a vulnerable person.

I reckon so long as people get the idea that it is not just about preventing yourself from getting the virus but is also about preventing yourself from being a risk to others then the voluntary lockdown idea might work.... that said, there's a shocking level of selfishness and contempt for other people's safety that I expect enforcement to be required... hefty on-the-spot fines should at least go some way to teach those with no regard for others how to behave.

This is disgusting. I heard other companies doing the same with management and what not. No excuse for this. Shut the whole thing down.

Oh man, you know what pisses me off the most? Those office workers are on a paid leave but with the underground workers they want us to use our holidays.

Of course they do. Gonna be a lot of lawsuits out of this mayhem
