I think sooner than that PSNet will become self-aware, will understand humans are a menace, will restore itself and Judgement Day will begin, no IP will then survive detection. My name is Anon Connor. If you are reading this ... you are checking this thread far too often :P

Funny!

Please, someone enlighten me if I'm totally off my block but I'm really trying to understand the motivation behind the hack and I personally just don't get it. The slogan that's been touted as the hacker's reason for the attack is either "Freedom of information!" or "Other OS!". If that really is the case then they've failed completely and by their own doing. Doesn't PSN being down mean less flow of information? Unless, of course, the information they are referring to is everyone's private CC info etc. And if THAT's the case, then they really are just petty thieves who deserve jail time.
They now have Homeland Security, the FBI, and who knows how many other security entities after them - not exactly an admirable position, especially since the hackers (as much as they may like to think they are doing something noble and important) aren't pulling a Robin Hood! If it's Other OS they are fighting for, I can't help but assume they are just misguided children or unstable hermits since it's such a petty and ridiculous cause to fight for.
Not only have they managed to piss off millions of gamers and consumers (originally thought to be the people they were fighting for), they are costing game companies hundreds of thousands of dollars because of the outage.
Now there's news that the hackers might be rogue agents of Anonymous. Well Anonymous, now's the time to show the public that you do care about doing the right thing. Your "cause" grows ever less credible when your members are splintered and in-fighting. Is your mandate to serve your selves or to serve the many? In fact, what is your "cause" again, because I fail to see how this mess is furthering anything.

Anon took responsibility of the first psn shut down that only lasted a couple of days. This attack was different, in that information was stolen and Sony shut down the network to fix it and trace those responsible. Now anon claim not to have been involved, but some suspect they were and you can't blame them for thinking this because of what anon did only a few weeks earlier. It will all come out in the future who was responsible (I hope) and no doubt even if that person or persons were know to anon they will deny it. No matter what caused this attack anon still got a lot to answer for, for their tiny little cause.

The 1st attack, wasn't that a few hours?

The first attack was denial of service. This was an actual hack of Sony's servers, which was completely different.

It's entirely possible this is the work of a third party, using Anon as a cover, but either way, it's damaging to their cause.

Servers were up to date before the attack, contrary to second hand testimony to Congress.

The story states version 2.2.17 is the current version. But I don't see that here. I see 2.2.11.:)

Apparently, PSN could have ANOTHER setback:
http://www.zdnet.com/news/hackers-plan-third-sony-attack/6231055?tag=mantle_skin;content

I might cancel my card after hearing this. Its ridiculous how they keep going after Sony. If this is indeed Anon (for a 2nd maybe even 3rd time), then I think they will have serious legal issues very soon.

EDIT: One website states this attack has been thwarted, the other states that it will occur this weekend (I am not entirely sure which to believe).

Believe nothing of that nonsense. Hackers are now more worried with their "rogue" member (apparently a very skilled one) than they are with Sony.

I'll quote a few Anon guys, it's even funny:

Ryan is accused of acting contrary to the collective’s democratic principles by intimidating other users with the threat of a botnet of “hijacked” computers he is rumoured to control – and which some reports estimate may consist of as many as 800,000 machines – the equivalent, said one Anon, of “negotiating with someone who has a bazooka casually slung over their shoulder”.

Please, someone enlighten me...

Just trying to keep the post short.

But I totally agree. There was only one Robin Hood but he was making it a point to ensure that many do not suffer because of the ideals of a few. The Anon-o-dorks think they are acting like Robin Hood but they are simply repeating the role of the Sheriff. Like I said earlier, I got a guy that can help out with this...

"Hey Ogre - what do you think of the Anon hack on the PSN?"

"Huh?"

"They broke something and now 77 million people have to deal with it."

"77 million? That's more than 1000. That's pretty messed up."

"You're telling me. By the way...you wanna do something about it?"

"NERDS!!!! ARRGGGHHHH!!!"

This article appears to be very similar to one posted about a week ago, referring to this past weekend. (I can't find the link in this thread now, but that is mostly due to not wanting to scroll through dozens of pages.) It seems a bit out of date: "Two weeks ago Sony's PlayStation Network, along with its Qriocity service and Sony Online, were the target of an attack..." The outage is three weeks old tomorrow, the attack is a few days older than that.

I got to voice my opinion on BBC Radio 5 Live when it was first revealed that personal details had been compromised due to a comment I posted on the BBC News site.

They called me this morning and asked if I would go on air again tonight to voice my feelings about the latest news - apparently the Associated Press are reporting that the PSN will not be back up and running until at least the end of May. I haven't seen an update on the EU Blog since 7th May though...

I can't believe how many people are as stupid as they are. Its clearly been said several times that online service will be restored in parts with game play being first and everything else before the end of the month. How is that hard to understand?

The phrase "up and running" should be in quotations in order to avoid confusion. The system will be fully operational (as Sony hopes) by May 31st but some portions may be restored prior to that date. All Sony has given us is a deadline as to when it will all be done (again, hopefully).

Its not just this thread I'm talking about either. I hear people all over the place saying nothing will be done until then. I fully expect to be able to play something online here pretty soon.

New update from the PS Blog:

I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored. At this time, I can’t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Oh I do hope that this "stupid" accusation is not levelled in my direction...

Do you guys think GT5 will need a patch before it can run on the new PSN or will we be able to race (online) as soon as it's restored?
