I see i'm not the only one with a Hotmail account still waiting for the password email. I'm a little bit relieved.

Shame on you Microsoft! This is not the way to face competition!

Edit: I don't know about you but, if i find out that Microsoft has intentionally blocked the password reset emails coming from sony, i'm definitely switching all my social media accounts to another mailing service...

Ditto to that. Gmail has another few members now I'd say, and I'm one of them!! My Hotmail account is being closed after this and never using msn again either.....this has stopped me from being online for three straight nights now!! :mad::grumpy::irked:

Still waiting for my Email, well over 36hrs on my end.

Did any of you try to have the email resent? I got tired of waiting and tried to log in a second time, it gave me the same "change password" message and then said "email sent" again, and the email showed up in about 2 minutes. Not certain if it actually resent or if the first one just showed up, but worth a try

My main account updated with minimal effort. Haven't tried my GTP account or others yet. The problem is that for all my international accounts I used @spam.la addresses. No loss there though. None of them owned any purchasable stuff.

Anybody have any advice on which of the free games to choose:
All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

* Dead Nation
* inFAMOUS
* LittleBigPlanet
* Super Stardust HD
* Wipeout HD + Fury

I am thinking Dead Nation and LittleBigPlanet, but I really don't know too much about any games besides GT and CoD. Hopefully these free games will help me expand my gaming horizons.

Of those five LBP and InFamous are the only two full Blu-Ray games. The other three are PSN DLC games.

That said, Wipeout is a fun futuristic racer that has more content than its $20 price would lead you to believe.

Small summary of each game, having only not played Dead Nation myself.

Dead Nation - third person top-down zombie-survival shooter using Omnidirectional twin stick controls. If you aren't familiar with this, one stick moves your character, the other stick dictates which direction you shoot.

inFamous (I've rented this)- Original superhero type adventure game. An unknown event leaves you with electrical powers. Your actions determine wither you become a hero or rule the city with an iron fist. Two possible endings. It was a pretty fun game and worth getting for free.

LittleBigPlanet (I own it) - This 2.5D platformer is only surpassed by its sequel. Not only is it a fun platforming game, but the level creator lets you create your own levels, and people who know what they are doing have created some pretty awesome stuff. The online community means you have millions of levels to play. Great if you have kids.

SuperStardust HD (I own it) - This was my first PSN game that I bought, and quite frankly it is still one of my favorites. It is a space shooter using omindirectional controls. Think Asteroids on crack here. Various forms of rocks fly at you and you have multiple types of weapons, with certain weapons being more effective against certain rocks.

Wipeout HD (I own it, but not the Fury expansion) - Futuristic hovercraft racer. You get up to ridiculous speeds, can shoot weapons at your competitors, and touching the walls is deadly. It will get your adrenaline pumping.

Anyway, for me I am getting inFamous and Dead Nation, because they are the only two I don't own. I could recommend any of the ones I have played, but if I had to choose only two and didn't own any, I would probably go with Wipeout and LBP. But it also depends on what you like. None of them will be similar to CoD (inFamous would be the closest, as it is a story-based adventure), but for racing you can choose Wipeout.

inFAMOUS sounds good, so if you decide to be bad you go around killing everyone. Like the force unleashed!

Are you kidding?? This is what I have done:

1. Called PS Hotline on FOUR seperate occasions regarding ETA of my email.
2. Rang my ISP (after PS Hotline said it was their issue on 2nd call)
3. Rang Hotmail in America to abuse them after ISP (and then Sony on the 3rd call) said it was Hotmail!!
4. Now changed my email address (4th call) to allow a new email to come through!! So now I have 2 emails floating in cyberspace!! :banghead:

I'm thankful I still have my original PS3 that I created my account on and I plan on getting Dead Nation and inFamous since I already own LBP and don't care for the other games.

Judging by the huge amount of password email requests that Sony is dealing with it seems to indicate just how many people have changed their PS3's since their original unit. You can make of that what you wish...

I'm wondering how big the downloads will be for each of the titles as it matters if your on a broadband package with a monthly GB limit. Does anyone remember how big these downloads were on PSN (especially hefty ones like Infamous)?

Yes. In fact, your powers allow you to either heal an injured person (using some of your energy) or steal their life force (killing them) to make you stronger. You can do it to random strangers or enemies.

You can draw power from electrical sources, but sometimes you are in an area where the power hasn't been restored yet. So, you have choose to take on a tough fight while weak or kill some innocents to make the fight easier.

And depending on whether you are good or bad will determine how people react to you in the streets. If you are good they practically hero worship you, calling out your name and cheering you on, but if you are bad they might throw stuff at you, randomly hit you, and so forth.

Here is what I make of it: I am on my second system and did not have to do an email verification. So, it means jack squat. But then I deactivated my old system so my account is now primarily linked to my new system.

inFamous: 6.9GB I'd imagine LBP is similar in size. If I recall Wipeout is 1 or 1.5 gb, and the other two are likely in the 500mb range. If I were at home I could look up the file size for Superstardust and Wipeout.

It does mean something then, you had to have deactivated your old console to not require email authorization on the new one. There has been so much demand for password resets that Sony even had to stop the process briefly to clear the backlog. I guess all those people forgot to deactivate their old system, or maybe they physically couldn't.

Good to know they are lighter than I thought it would be. Could take a while to DL though.

Trolling the web it looks like SSD-HD is about 700 MB's, Wipeout HD 1 GB and the Fury add-on another 700+ MB's.

Is it an email verification process or a password reset process? The blog post about where they shut it down didn't say exactly. It just said it was taking time to get all the emails cleared through ISP's, which could be anything, as even I received the changed password notification email. So, no matter how you did it there was an email sent out. And the blog didn't say which emails were the issue.

We’re currently experiencing an extremely heavy load of password resets, and so we recently had to turn off services for approximately 30 minutes to clear the queue.

As such, a large number of people are attempting to change their passwords at the same time, it’s taking longer than expected for all those emails to clear all of the ISPs.

If you’ve requested your password reset, please give it a bit of time to reach your email. Thanks for your patience as we work to get everyone back online.

I'm pretty sure it would be the password reset emails containing info which you cannot get online without that are the ones taking a while to arrive, because I doubt people would complain about not receiving a 'password changed' notification.

Hmmm I already played a buck load of lbp and almost platted inFamous. So those 2 games are out of question for me as I still want to play lbp2 and inFamous2 isnt too far away

I most likely get dead nation and wipeout + fury.

I don't know if this helps or hurts. I was waiting over 36 hours for an email. Nothing arrived, and I had tried at least three times (until I got the server error). I called Sony. Sony required serial number, online ID, everything else under the sun, and then told me they would be sending me an email (I thought it the back of my mind, that was dumb since well, I was still waiting on the three orginal). However he did tell me it could take up to 14 days to get my email. I about died. However in about 8 hours after my conversation, I received the email to my AOL account. So if anybody has not phoned Sony, I would strongly recommend to call them. It may help, may not in some peoples case.

@robin & fool killer - deactivation isn't necessary, I reset account directly on 2nd ps3 with the old ps3 still working (temperamental blue ray drive) and in use. In my opinion the critical thing is that you have downloaded something from the store on that account and that ps3.

I don't even think it has to be paid content as the only thing I have downloaded are the gtaiv expansions, and these had already been paid for and downloaded on the older ps3.

:)

I don't believe either is the case.

I also am on my second PS3 and didn't deactivate my account from my old PS3 as I still have it and is technically working*. Yet when I signed in for the first time it let me change my password from the new PS3. In fact, as a family we have many accounts, I also have several international accounts, and my GTP account, and when I went to sign them all in, it appeared quite random as to which allowed me to change their password from the PS3 and which required the change via email.

In fact, I thought I was going to have an issue with my wife's account which happens to be (unfortunately) a subaccount, due to the following message from Sony Support: Changing a Sub Account password.

However, like most of the accounts, all I had to do was sign in under her account and it let me change the password via the PS3.

That said, my daughter's new account (which was created on the 2nd PS3) required an email authorization.

However my son's new account (which was also created on the new PS3) did not required any email authorization, and I was able to change his password via the PS3.

After going through more than a dozen accounts, it appears to be random as far as if an account's password can be changed via the PS3 or via email.

* My first PS3 momentarily died a year ago from YLOD, but a basic reflow fixed it. Full story here: My first time dealing with YLOD (added ways to fix YLOD)

However recently it stopped recognizing any type of disc, and for now my son uses it to have fun taking it apart and putting it back together again.

If this is the case then I'm intrigued as to what the criteria is for some needing the email and some not is, all I know for sure it there are LOTS of people needing that email! I'm on the same original unit I signed up to PSN with and my various accounts all went through without the need for an email. It could be to do with something you may have installed on the PS3 or maybe accounts which they fear may have been part of the stolen data chunk need it.

Whatever it is, it's pissed me off to no end. Just found out I definitely won't be getting anything before 7pm my time, as it takes 24hrs from the change of email address to get the new email! :grumpy:

By the time this is over I'll be screaming at people over the PSN to line up for an asswhipping at SSR7. :lol:

That's odd. The four accounts that I had that required an email authorization all received the email in just a few seconds. It seems like the delays are related to individual email servers and or specific email service companies. All my email accounts are via Gmail and roadrunner.

It does seem suspicious that so many of the complaints seem to be from those using Hotmail, which is owned by Microsoft. Hmmm...

I was able to change the password on my main account directly through the PS3. I received confirmation emails to my yahoo and gmail alternate accounts within minutes.

FWIW on the missing email subject, I've reactivated 2 accounts successfully. One with sbcglobal.net and one with hotmail.com. One I had to activate via the internet (sbcglobal) and the other I activated via the PS3 (hotmail). Both were up and running within about 10 mins of my first trying to log in with them.

I don't know why the world is so America-centric it's kind of disgusting and that's coming from an American. Sorry, if I were Sony Japan would be first. Period. End of discussion.

Maybe Sony doesn't want to seem Japan-centric so they don't turn away the huge population of their customers in other countries. I think That's what I'd do.

I suppose. Though I doubt if Sony were, let's call them "Sonny's" in America (not affiliated with the restaurant chain), they'd cater to anyone else before it came back up in the states.

And wouldn't a huge population of their customers be situated in Japan?

Not being disagreeable just curious.

I mean I'm in America, and I still think it's a little crappy.

I don't know, but I think the majority of their customers are outside of Japan. The majority of people who bought GT5 are in Europe for instance.

Still, Sony has less competition in Japan so people are less likely to leave. Microsoft doesn't have a firm enough hold of that market that people would drop Sony for them as they would in America.

But yes, if Sony were American, they probably would serve America first. Not sure if that would be a good thing or not. You don't want to upset your faithful crowd, but then again, your faithful crowd should be more understanding. In such case, you should cater to the foreign crowd who will be less understanding.

I'll say that I am quite satisfied and pleased with how Sony has been handling this. But what of the rumors of new feature additions through updates? What happened to those?

The PSN network won't be switched on in Japan until Sony can demonstrate that they have fixed the security threat. Not sure how long it will take for them to do that.

That's what I've heard too . . .

Which raises the question: So how good is security for the rest of us?? :nervous:

I guess they'll update it on the fly, we'll get that when it comes.
