When I get on the gas exiting a corner, sometimes it's as if the diff locks in such a way as to prevent the car from turning. about three times in the last week, I slowed to enter a corner and exited the way I normally would, but the car would start to turn, then just straighten out somewhat and I would go right off track.

Just me?
That happened to me about 3 times on Interlagos and once on Suzuka. I thought my controller was shot
You are not alone with Suzuka. I know the track reasonably well and am more afraid of it than DT Seaside for some reason. I just get blown out of the way by everyone else when we are there. Not by pushing or punting, just seem to have it all wrong
I may be imagining it, but I think that Suzuka has quite a bit less traction than some of the other circuits. I especially find I'm sliding around on it a surprising amount after I've run a few races at some of the "original" circuits.

.....Perhaps hug the right wall while the ones behind line up for the dive and brake early to let em shoot ahead. Of course with multiple cars behind :/
Even if they're half a second back I find that to be at least a 75% chance of an SR down due to "brake checking"

...Simple solution - stop no qualification entries from being allowed. Granted, next thing the same drivers will do ultra slow Q times and we'll have races to see who can go round the track the slowest in qualifying but it would be a move in the right direction.
Or match rooms by slowest quali times. That way all the no qualifiers would be in the same race, ranked by DR score :sly:

I tried the Audi R8 and the GT-R in Suzuka - and its just constantly sliding around, the Audi more so than the GT-R (which I had great success with in St. Croix).

Also - do you take 130R in Suzuka at full speed? Maybe I am just too timid going through there or I am not taking the right line, but I always get the feeling, if I don't brake, I will run wide or lose the car.
As I said above, I'm fairly sure Suzuka has a lower traction setting than most tracks.
For 130R, I watched a replay for Monday's number one Oceania region qualifier (GT-R) and he takes it same as lowly me (currently DR-C in a '16 RC-F). No brakes, but lift the throttle right off a bit before turn in. How far before will depend on speed, skill, your turn in timing and your car choice.

Was I imagining it, or was that a a brake check after he got his penalty?

That's what happens when the penalty system works :( Revenge for getting a penalty.

I was fully expecting you to get a 3sec penalty for "ignoring track limits" and another 4sec for "colliding with another car".

I would have if I had not gone off road after the brake check. He left the road of the other side so the penalty system gave me SR Down instead of a penalty.

So either you get a faulty penalty, or the other car gets a penalty for not paying attention or trying to block after messing up and takes revenge. Take your poison...

Nice score! There were a few 86's in the one race I managed. May give it a go...after I set up my alt account.*shhh*:sly:

I suppose the point is, no quali is fine so long as you are willing to race as you describe. Too many I see end up barging past as though they have divine privilege.

@Invisigoth I don't let faster cars pass without question however if it is obvious that they are so fast that it is only a matter of time that they will pass me and it's too far from the end to defend reasonably I'll let them by and try to draft them for as long as possible. Too often "over defending" leads to either a crash or so much time lost that the cars that were 1 or 2 seconds behind catch and you lose even more places.

I make room in corners for faster cars to pass. I don't go out of my way to pull over or anything, but when an obviously faster player comes around I'll hug the outside at the braking zone, go a bit wide and let them by on the inside, then draft them for as long as I can after the corner.

I rather not start overtaking early when starting last but don't always have that luxury when there's other fast non qualifiers behind me. Even so I'll keep my distance for the first few turns as there is really no place to go when passing in the middle of traffic. That often earns me SR Down by getting bumped by the car behind me... It's a risk when starting last but I won't go barging people off in front of me if I can help it. But sometimes I get punted into a slow defender :/

Interlagos is my favorite, but the Ferrari is not the right car.
Here is a fun clip of this guy wanting to take the inside as we go into the Senna S's. I was already there but he insisted, and I let him go ...
(Can someone tell me how to do a GIF?)

I started 6th last night in the Ferrari, got up to 2nd behind an Aston but couldn't get closer than a half second behind him. I stopped for tires on lap 6 and he stopped on lap 7. I had a 3 second lead on him when he exited the pits....he caught me in a lap and passed me like I was tied to a tree. I was shocked that he was able to be that much faster on fresh tires considering I could hang with him prior to stopping.

Alt account. This is crazy. B/S room. I started last no qualy. A Slophy and another 86, we all gave room for the first 3 laps. As we caught cars in the pack, all heck breaks loose. Diverse group of cars, but it's like the higher up the grid I went, the more defensive players got. Looking in the mirrors so much and being too late on the brakes. Never mind setting fast qualy times, when race craft should be the main focus.

I'm happy to see people competitive with the '86. I was going to try it last night but figured it was just too under powered. Is it safe to say that the strategy with the 86 is to not stop and pick off drivers as they pit? How is the tire wear?

Ok, I didn't know that about Suzuka. Was just a bit frustrated, after the success I had at Bathurst and St. Croix. I will give it another go - and in the Beetle for instance, thanks 6KB for the suggestion.

I was really happy with the progress I made the past few weeks. Just putting in a good amount of qualifying laps and then try to stay out of everyones way on the track. Got me a quite a few podiums and even two race wins.

Nope. Neither Suzuka nor Interlagos did anything for my DR and I am down almost 6k points since that high 2 weeks ago.

I tried the Audi R8 and the GT-R in Suzuka - and its just constantly sliding around, the Audi more so than the GT-R (which I had great success with in St. Croix).

The R8 is one of the most planted gr3 cars. For instance you could try to keep it 1 gear above what the game recommends in the curves : hairpin in 2nd, turn 1 in 3rd... It helps with power .
You can also try to change the Break Balance to -2 (to the front) so the rear is less sensitive upon breaking.
I don't take 130R flatout but I lift a bit and turn in very early, don't hesitate to get on the inside curve and on the outside one on the exit, they won't send you spinning out.

After a loooonnnngg day at work yesterday i ran only a few laps at Goodwood and was only able to manage a 1.29.2xx tried a few more this morning before my dentist appointment, in waiting room now, and got a 1.28.7xx and i should be able to get under 28.5 if i can run laps without being completely exausted or half asleep. Hope to try some races before work if i get time...

Will get to my first 2 suzukas of the week story in a moment. Decided it was time to grind the rest of the cash for this bad boy.

Must have done 79 Nostalgic in the jag for like 3 or 4 hours on Sunday while watching football. Worth it. Car sounds amazing and drives amazing. 4 speeds usually concern me because i hate banging the top of 4th gear constantly but the daytona is geared perfectly.

Anyways First suzuka race i was gonna just set a quick lap pre race in the supra but i crashed out on both laps so start from the back. i just tried to be consistent on a track i used to despise. It worked out very well as the field pretty much moved themselves out of my way.

So then i skipped a race to eat and came back with enough time to do 2 or 3 laps before the next race with the Aston. Ended up with a 2:02.523 which was apparently good enough for pole lol. Again just tried to be consistent and not ruin the race myself trying to push when i don't need to. Went to sleep after these but it was a good start to the week.

:scared:

I got run off and bumped off a couple times with no penalty for the offender of course, but luckily also no SR Down for me. I had to avoid a bunch of dive bombs throughout the race as well as people taking short cuts, always nice to see them coming from far away. So I only made up 2 positions in the end (actually more, but lost them again while avoiding) but kept the clean race bonus in this :)

3 tries at Suzuka. 1st attempt I finished last, I haven't raced there for a while and felt rusty.

2nd attempt: finished second from last because the person behind rage pushed me off at Snake. I was side by side with him at Degner before and that never ends too well. I was at the inner, he sent his car into mine and went off. I got 2 seconds. I saw it as a racing incident, he didn't. Also tried blocking me in the penalty zone although luckily he was ghosted when I went pass. The fight for 15th place was a rough one. Probably one of the hardest fights for a low position I've ever had in this game.

For the 3rd attempt, I decided to qualify before the race start and got 2:01.9 in the Huracan. I started 11th place and had a much, much better race and finished 6th. Grids have been refreshingly diverse, I've seen Beetles, AMGs, R8s, Italias and 911s. No GT-Rs in sight.

so he'd share his sour grapes.

I think you mean apples.

It may not be the same thing, but typically when I get that feeling, I usually chalk it up to the game simulating understeer.

I have narrowed it down to low controller battery. When the battery is full, this bug never happens. When the battery is down to about 1 bar, it starts to happen. I'm not sure why it doesn't just cut out, or why it's only on the steering, but that seems to be what's happening.

I'm just going to ensure I have a fresh controller whenever I get into a race.

(unrelated) I've been having some good luck running the Jags. 2 wins with them so far. I think people get caught looking at them and drive off track :D

I'm more shocked that RWD cars are pitting on this race. I only did one race (used the Jag) but didn't think I was losing enough time near the end to justify the time it would take to pit. My last 3 laps were about 1 second slower than the earlier laps - dropped on laps 9, 10 and 11 from mid 1.41's to high 1.42's, so worn tyres cost me about 3 to 5 seconds over all. You can hardly pit, come out, and make up enough time on fresh rubber for it be worth the 3 seconds lost on bad tyres can you?

I think you mean apples.

Nope, you can't add apples and grapes.:dunce:

C is brutal in the midfield. Everyone drives like it's a sprint race. The penalties are tricky and there's just no common sense.

I've dropped 20 SR so far, but up 1200 DR and have to say enjoying it. Not convinced the GT86 is the way to go, it's just what I had. The straightline pace of the RCF, AMG and F Type make them prime choices for people who can't drive! The GT86 isn't quick enough to get out of the way!

I had to chuckle last night during my last trip in country.
Doppelgänger account no qual. Got through the mid pack swiftly as at one point 3 cars took themselves off fighting so I was able to run sans traffic.
Last lap I’m all over one of my South American friends running inside him alongside on the straight after the senna esses. He was second. He began sideswiping. Things got physical, and he got soooo lucky to just clip my rear and slide me a couple corners later as I was going by. I ended up sideways after his ram and tried to cut the track to full on ram him, but got reset and handed a five second bonus lol.
Gosh dang it, still ended almost 99 sr and picked up 13 or so spots.
I had to chuckle, usually I just straight immediately punt, but this time fought and when you wrestle a pig and get dirty the pig likes it.
Here’s to you S American sideswiper guy, I salute you for being very good at dirty play!

As an aside, MANY THANKS to @sturk0167. Love that car. So smooooooth.

This morning, I remembered a nice trick at Interlagos, that I had forgotten about because it's been quite a while since I've raced there. You probably already know about this one.
Anyway, when you're being harassed by a dirty guy, and he inevitably runs into you at turn 1, knocking your car wide, just cut though the green area and skip turn 2 to leave him behind and get the hell away from him. No penalty if he hits you first. 👍

@Groundfish, I knew you liked racing the Vette there, and thought the Viper would be similar, but with better cornering. SnB

Oh it’s a great drive. Very nice ffb wicked quick. You’re right!
I never used it almost ever, but it’s quite silky and it has nice cup holders. My macchiato has yet to spill. It would have splashed last race but I had already finished it by the final lap.
Lol.

@Pigems, start changing your fluids and charge the battery on your 86. 👍
No need to test all the cars, this time.
It's your A+ track!

First time playing sport mode for awhile, but I only did two races so far. One in race b and the other in race c. Started on pole in both and didn’t make the podium in either of them.

The first race was due to my own mistake which put me at the back which then lead to me getting taken out by someone who couldn’t stay on track, fair enough. I have no one to blame for myself for putting myself in a position where I can get taken out.

But in the second race, after leading by several seconds for most of the race, an american guy rammed me off from far back which then made me vulnerable to these two divebombing Brazilian ****tards. American guy won the race then had the balls to complain about other people hitting him, what an idiot. I didn’t forget his psn, I’ll remember him for next time.

I don’t think I care about my ratings anymore. What’s the point? **** A+.
