For Monza, I‘d like to encourage everybody who wants to avoid the META (and it‘s virtual successor, the Corvette) to try the F-Type.

On my alt-account (B/S) you can easily follow the McLarens on the straights and get much easier through the turns and chicanes.

My Q-Time with it is down to :39.1 (though I managed a :38.8 when trying last weekend).

Edit: Plus: In curva grande you can easily run on the tightest possible line without rubbing off velocity.

Connection has been bad for me this week. Disconnect during warm-up yesterday. 1 red bar today/quit after a lap. Usually improves after the start menu but it didn't.

Took my Gulf Speed Team cars out for some laps tonight. McLaren is the fastest by far, now down to 1:38.1. It's a tank through some of the twisty stuff so I find I have to brake that little bit earlier and lift just before apexes and on the curbs. GT40 is close behind on 1:38.6 (but more practice and I think it'll do low 38s). It's much easier to drive flat out through more corners, but still gets tail happy when it gets unsettled slightly. Aston Martin DBR9 is the slowest of the trio. I only ran 4 laps but got it down to 1:38.8 after having to adjust my driving style after about 12 laps in the MR cars. I think this would be my race choice due to its stability.

Just ran 3 "B" races. I started 15th, 12th, and 13th; finished 8th, 13th, and 6th.

The 1st race was rather uneventful except for me tapping another driver several times. For some reason, he seemed to be right where I was going when I was going into a turn. One lap 1, he just slammed on the brakes way early at Roggia and that caused me to hit him. He wound up just going straight through. I went through normally and waited for him to get back on the track before I continued. Then, at turn 5, he turned right in front of me even though I had the inside line. I backed off so as not to knock him off the track, again. And then, at Ascari, he did the same thing and I tapped him, again. I finally got around him coming down the front straight and was by just as we were going into Curva Grande. I thought maybe he'd use me as a shield to take it flat out, but I saw him tap the brakes to slow down so we didn't collide, again. I went on to stay ahead of him until the end, but he was right on me up until the finish.

The 2nd one, I got caught up in a 3-way (but not the good kind) on the 1st lap going into Curva Grande. I got sent off into the sand and came back in 14th; 1 above last who was having some.....issues? They finally left (DC? Rage quit? Don't know). I was still in 14th, but now in last place. I recovered rather quickly and nailed the 1st chicane. I came out strong, hit turns 4 and 5 really well, and headed down the back straight. I hit Ascari as fast as I could, almost running too wide and into the sand to the right coming out of the left-hander, there. But I kept it on the track and came around Parabolica as fast as I could while running wider than normal but staying on track. On lap 2, I totally missed the braking point at turn 5 and put my left side off the track. It slowed me down a good bit and I lost any time I'd made up to everyone else. I got back on it and drove on the edge to catch back up. Thanks to another driver spinning, I didn't finish in last.

The 3rd race was full of spinning and running wide; on just about every lap. Lap 4, I got myself a .5 second penalty for cutting the last part of Ascari just a TINY bit too much. I was trying to stay more than 1 second ahead of the person behind me so I didn't go any lower in the finishing order. I was in 6th at that point and wanted to stay there. As I was going through Parabolica, I looked back and saw 3-4 other drivers take it at what looked like full speed. They obviously ran WAY wide and wound up far off the track against that wall. That put me quite a few seconds ahead of the one who benefited from their mistakes and I retained 6th position.

There's more in the gt40 man. In practice last week I did 38.0 with the f1, 38.1 with the gt40. Now qualy conditions seem a bit slower, best I can do is 38.2 in f1 but regardless I was within 0.1 with the gt and I am super ham fisted, I use the dpad
There's more in the Corvette as well, I had it up to 2nd and chasing for 1st before 3rd started trying to shove me off and I had to switch things up. I just can't get that qualy down below 1:40, it's the slipstream in the race that helps it really fly but starting 10th or so is not the best place to be getting to the front. Will keep plugging away at it as I just don't want to bow to the meta, lol. I'd love to snatch this in my favourite car.

Does anyone else get Special Stage route X vibes from this one at times?

I will definitely give the GT40 more time on track to see if I can extract some more out of it. It definitely has potential to crack into the 37's, but I just need to find the time to get the practice in it. Maybe after the FIA tonight...

The Corvette is a good shout. It's rapid and very stable - but is it quick enough overall? I'm not sure. I'd rather be in the DBR9, personally, as it's super stable and has the top end to compete. I don't know about it's slipstream performance though.

It will likely take some opportunism and good fortune, but I rarely make mistakes at Monza, and this race pushes others to make them a lot so I'm confident there'll be openings it just depends where I am in the field if it's there for a win or not.

If I do end up in the F1 I've made sure it's absolutely obnoxious

That livery is brilliant. Fastest vegan sausage rolls on the planet in that thing!
I use to say many times: "Driving a META CAR is as play in easy mode"
I´m driving Citroen in Monza. steering and brakes compensate the acceleration
Shifting at 8200 RPM (It works) BB 2 or 3
How does the Citroen compare on lap times? I would never have thought to use that car, mainly because it's such an awkward looking thing.

The two Japanese tracks are quite a challenge this week. Really good stuff.

Tokyo feels like you are flat out with a N300 car, but the car prove to be something to handle. You really need to be smooth when releasing the brakes and applying throttle or your in the wall.
I spent around 25 laps qualifying and could manage a 1.29.1 with 1.28.5 opt. Good enough for a top 100 at the moment :) I was afraid I outqualified my racing pace but I could hit 1.29 or low 1.30 during the races. 3 poles and 3 win this morning.

Suzuka took more than a race to really feel the car and the track. After the first race I was about to give up for the week. Glad I did not, it's really fun. The first few laps from the back are challenging and I'm somewhere between top5-10 at the end.

No obvious dirty driver to report, people try their best on both track it seems.

I did the daily race B a couple of times and the line I used like 10 times for quali+race laps worked every time for turn 1 except this once when I was right behind an Aston-Martin. Does the game simulate dirty air reducing my grip leading to understeer or did I just fumble the turn?

Every race I do now I get bumped down to 1 red bar just before the race starts from full bars. Happened a few weeks ago too. I had to wait for it to go away. More connection problems in lobbies too.

Generally speaking sever issues have been bad. Maybe it's all OK in Japan but the proprietary crap doesn't work for everyone in the world and when playing with others around the world based on P2P the SONY servers don't cut it and don't play nice with local ISPs. I'm worried this will become a bigger issue with next generation console.

Yeah, dirty air.

Staying away from the daylies this week. I hate monza with a passion as it’s always a punt-fest. I suck at group 1 and I rarely do any race A’s.

Still plenty to do tho. Gotta figure out how to tame the Gr3 Ferrari for this weeks manu…. And I need to FINALLY commit The Ring to memory for next week.

Say….what’s everyone’s opinion of the Gr.4 Mclaren? I’m thinking of choosing that as my late entry Manu car on my US alt. I like racing offbeat cars and the GR3 F1 isn’t as understeery as I remember….and an absolute breeze of a car to drive compared to the 458 😑
The gr 4 McLaren is a gem

So thanks to other players pushing me, hitting me, knocking me through chicanes and off the track, my SR keeps going down. Like if I'm going around Curva Grande at Monza, another driver keeps pushing me over to cause me to run into the grass next to the wall on the right. Therefore, I have to slow down and it allows him to pull ahead. He has a penalty and will be serving it on that lap. I get a penalty at the 1st chicane for cutting the 2nd corner. OK, I'll serve my penalty, too. We both slow down and I actually pass him (his was 1 second, mine was .5 second). He catches back up to me coming around Curva Grande and then proceeds to bump me as we're slowing down. I was ahead of him and I had the correct line. He was behind me and to my left. He pulls over behind me and bumps me, causing me to go across the 1st corner of the chicane and have to stay on the brakes longer than normal. I then get passed by 3 other cars. I WAS in 8th; started 13th. That put me down to 12th. Another mistake by me put me down 1 more position to 13th (which I'm OK with; it was a mistake I made and no one else was involved). And that's where I finished. I just don't get it. If these people drive like this in real life, they need to be forced to walk everywhere they go and never have a license, again. And did none of them pay attention to the racing etiquette section that's required to view before you can do online races?

Ran another race. It went much better. My DR went up instead of down, as did my SR. I started 9th (knocked almost a full second off my qualifying time 😎 ) and finished 5th. I was in 4th, but ran a bit too wide in the 2nd left-hand kink at Ascari and was passed. I then dropped down a couple more spots thanks to me running wide at Parabolica (hit the brakes about 10 meters too late, thankfully no one was directly in front of me). But I got them both back when the 2 that passed me, there, decided to have a little dance at Ascari on the next (and final) lap. The both wound up off the track and spinning (was definitely the fault of the driver behind as I saw him run straight into the one ahead without hitting his brakes). So I had a decent race with a decent finish and no real shenanigans to speak of, other than the one at Ascari on the final lap.

2 disappointing races for me this evening. I set my qualifying time at 1:42.778 which put me mid pack as expected. I can work with that.

Race 1 I’m starting P6 and survive turn 1 but run wide at Spoon and wait to rejoin safely. Then I get into the back of another car that comes back on track. Drop to P12 as a result. Chaos in the Casio Triangle and I get into the back of another car that rejoins the track right in my line and down to P13 but back to P12 after I pass a ghosted car. More chaos at the Degner corners with people going wide and rejoining in my line so I need to adjust and run wide on the Degner 2 exit. Next lap I totally miss my breaking point on Denger 1 and run very wide and reset. I do find my way back to P8 but run deep at the Casio Triangle on the last 2 laps and drop to P9. I also lose 4 SR due to my collisions.

Race 2 I’m P10 on the grid with a few A+/A drivers and some names I recognize from the previous race. I get spooked by a ghost car and that throws off my entry into the esses on lap 1 and I get them all wrong. I get punted from behind and hit from the side in the Hairpin turn same lap. Nothing I could do really. I take forever to get the car pointed the right direction and am in P15 of 16. I lose it in the Hairpin a lap later, and then I fall to P14 which is dead last due to some rage quits. I make a cheeky move in the Hairpin when P13 runs wide, and I scoot on by a few laps later. I run wide again on Spoon and fall to P13. Move up to P11 thanks to others mistakes and on the last lap, P12 and myself tangle in the Casio Triangle after they make a clean move on the inside, but they get the power down too early and spin directly in front of me in which I yeet them off track. I’m run out of time in the race as soon as get on the main straight. I also drop to 90 SR.

Not the best results but it was mainly my fault for running wide due to my pushing to catch up. I know I'm being impatient and need to keep a steady pace and lines when behind, but I panic a bit when behind and push to hard. My pace on the soft tires feels good and I can make time up in the esses, but I can’t pass without making contact. I also found it odd that some people were almost stopping in the esses and me giving them a bump and stopping my speed. It’s hard to predict what people are going to do when things get crazy. The track is narrow enough where I can’t dive out of the way without touching the grass and losing control myself. The combo is great, I just can't keep it together long enough not to make a mistake.

Managed a 1.37.8 at monza qualy, got a great run out if the final chicane that really made the difference. Racing tough asusual, made my own mistakes this time though, but if Coulthard brain fade on my behalf.

I like the sound of Race B, but the pit entry at Autopolis is one of the worst in the game (rivalled only by Mount Panorama) so I'll be avoiding that at all costs. I'm thinking this one will be a chance to drive a few of the Gr.4 cars I've barely driven, like the Lexus, 650S, 458 and the Toyota 86.

If anyone is looking for other cars other than the obvious for this one I can recommend the SLS as a good candidate, its on par with the Corvette and much nicer/easier to drive than the McLaren. I'm in high 1:37's in the Corvette & SLS compared to a 1:37.3 in the McLaren.
I am this forum's biggest fan of the Merc but man, it just does not have the top end at Monza. The car is all about exits, nothing gets off a corner like the SLS but surely you get eaten alive by GTR's, F1's and Vettes half way down the main straight?

As for next week, sounds like PGA2021 to me, B and C races are brutal and race A rarely jives with me.
