Looks like another week of me sitting out the Dailies. They've not really been inspiring of late.
I really wanted to play Suzuka this week but I hurt my back and won't be able to make the attempt.

I didn't like Autopolis as a fresh noob, which was a while back, but this combo sounds interesting.

You know how great tracks, think Spa, Road America or Bathurst, the next corner is intuitive, it belongs, it feels natural most of the time. Autopolis is the opposite, most of the turns feel forced and contrived, like really we're going that way. It's almost as bad as Fuji.

1st race of "B", today. I started in 6th.....but I certainly wouldn't finish there. At the 1st chicane, a bit of carnage ensued and multiple people got spun, put off the track, etc. I was the unfortunate soul who got put down to dead last (16th). After rejoining the track, I made my way up to 15th. Then the 16th place person quit; back down to last. I made up another spot (14th), then the person in 15th quit (last place, again). Thanks to some others spinning and running wide at various spots, I was able to climb back up to 10th. And that's where I finished. I had some really good practice laps before the race and was feeling good about my 6th place start. But it wasn't meant to be.

2nd race went MUCH better. I started 6th, again. But this time I finished 2nd. There was a bit of carnage at the 1st chicane, but nothing like the previous race. I made it through mostly unscathed and had moved up a spot to 5th. Coming through Ascari, I gained another position thanks to someone spinning. On lap 2, I moved up to 3rd thanks to the person ahead making a mistake at Roggia. And I was content to stay there for a podium finish. But on the next lap, the 2nd place car spun at Ascari and I moved up to 2nd. Us in the top 3 were running pretty close together (less than a second between each of us) and we were pulling away from everyone else. 1st and 2nd were doing a bit of battling up to that point and I was hoping it would slow both of them down enough to where I could make a move. But with 2nd place spinning, that allowed 1st place to go on unchallenged. I kept within a couple seconds of him, but he was a bit quicker through the corners than I was. Still, I'll take that 2nd place finish and be happy. It definitely makes up for the previous race.

Also, it pushed my DR up to B (11887) 😎

Ran a couple more "B" races. The 3rd race didn't go so well. I started 8th. I was moving up pretty good, until the 2nd lap. I was coming up on a GT-R and was about to pass him going into Curva Grande. He moved over to block (he was on the inside so I was going around the outside), pushing me further to the outside and causing me to go into the sand. That allowed everyone else to pass me. I worked my way back up to 12th and finished there. I was having a decent race up to that point. I actually caught up to him again and saw him push some others a bit wide so they wouldn't pass him. Again, not for a podium spot. This was for 10th or 11th place.

On race 4, I ran wide at Curva Grande myself and wound up down in last. I started 12th, so I lost 3 spots (only 15 people in the lobby). I worked my way up to 11th thanks to other's mistakes. I honestly can't believe I did such a stupid thing like that on the very 1st lap. Otherwise, it was a decent race. No other mistakes from me, just that 1st one that cost me a LOT of time. My DR suffered a bit thanks to those last 2 races; it's still a "B", though. But my SR went back up and I'm at "S", again. Hopefully that will put me in some better lobbies with fewer and fewer idiots whose only goal seems to be making others miserable and causing them to wreck or spin.

I hopped into a race with a bunch of A+/A rated drivers starting P13, but I got disconnected and took that as a sign for me not to tempt fate the rest of the week. Decided to try some livery concepts, but they would be way too busy for them to look good.
Race C: Gr.2 @ Autopolis | 12 laps | RS/RM | Tyres x5 | Fuel x2

Yeah Gr.2! I'll spend and entire day getting that pit entry correct. It's been a while since I've raced there.

As much as I don't personally like Autopolis, I can't hate. On 2 of my accounts, it was the track where I got my first wins.

Had a very good night at monza, got my DR back over 37k. Still some dirty driving, not overt but shove passes that kill your momentum. I needed one guy off completely after being victim to his bomb passing attempt then watching him do it twice more. Off you go you giblet.

I am really enjoying Suzuka in Gr.1 when I'm able to run it, on my new Alt-Alt. I've punched that up to 25k DR, so the competition isn't terribly bad, and I've enjoyed good clean racing at the front of the grid. The podium spots have been fought by really good racers in most races I've joined. Been surprised that the pole sitter hasn't been on Softs in every race... making my own strategy a little hard to pin down until the race plays out. Otherwise figure a 4M6S undercut is the only way to pass a solid driver who starts from Pole on Softs... thoughts?

But the racing is a riot and very realistic compared to many of the other garbage racing we get in Dailies. The aero wash makes sure of it.

As I had only accumulated ~just over 1 million credits, I could only pick one Gr.1 so I went with my personal favorite, the Porsche. It drives like a Porsche... tail swings out nicely on full throttle-off in turns, but it claws at the apex like mad when you hit the entry properly. Been a really good race car, with acceleration off the line and the battery available for the whole lap (though at the typical speed around Suzuka, not needed either...).

Hope to get a few more in. Intrigued to know whether I'd be successful at all on my main or my A+ Alt account, but hesitant to try it while having so much fun in the B/S ranks.

On the other hand, I simply can't figure out the Race A pace at all... really unusual for me as my typical N-class FF performance is where I'm able to pad my DR... and at Tokyo normally, too. But something isn't adding up for me when I try that one this week.

This week's IOTW contains @Adam Barber & @RacingGrandpa. Fair warning, it appears that our video creator is enjoying some swear word clips (which are funny), so language warning.

I will say, about the guy that went backwards after a spin:

The GAME has some really funky programming that sees to it that you're facing the wrong way after relatively harmless spins, in most cases. The number of times your car is spun facing backward is not a coincidence nor is it realistic... it's shotty programming or done on purpose to penalize you if you make a smaller mistake. You can't tell me I'm wrong. It IS maddening sometimes.

Along with the bogus traction model once you leave the tarmac... it can be infuriating. So I ~kinda~ feel what that Viper driver was getting at.

When I'm in my 70's, hopefully I'll be playing GT13 on my PS10.
I'm sure people will be still bitching about the penalty system, but I never really cared about it. I just adapt to whatever it is.
However, I hope they figure out how to be more consistent with the car ghosting. That's what bothers me.
If a car is rejoining the track perpendicularly, why should he be able to ruin my race?
I aint gonna lift off the throttle. :irked:

I have no idea what you're talking about. :sly:

Just did a couple "B" races. The 1st one was going good until I got tapped going into Roggia. That caused me to go straight through, then get reset. I started in 8th, then got pushed back to 14th (out of 15). Thanks to others battling, spinning, etc., I made my way up to 9th (where I finished). Other than that 1 tap, it was a fairly uneventful race, for me (thankfully).

The 2nd race was much better. I started in 8th, again, and found myself in 3rd towards the end of lap 2. I was staying with the top 2 and we were leaving the rest of the pack behind (Beetle in 4th giving it hell, though; he drove the piss out of that thing, lol). On the last lap, coming through Ascari, I cut the corner of the last cut to the left and got myself a penalty. And thanks to me sliding a bit at Lesmo, the Beetle had caught up to me. I didn't have enough of a lead to keep it more than 1 second to stay ahead of him at the finish (after getting my 1 second penalty added to my time), so I pulled over, lifted just a bit to let him go by, and brought it home in 4th. I"m OK with that as the penalty was totally my fault for driving too fast trying to stay ahead of the Beetle after sliding at turn 5. But I moved up 4 spots, so I'm good.

I ran some races earlier, today, but they didn't go so well. A few times I got banged around and pushed wide at various places causing me to run off into the sand. Most of the time I made my way back to my original starting position, finishing there; which I'm OK with (as it beat the alternative). But a couple of them I wound up way at the back and couldn't get back any higher.

My DR is still going up, but my SR has come down a bit (at "A", now, but still close to S).

Well starting on pole at Monza hasn't been much fun - think I've had 12 poles and a few 2nd place starts due to a fluke of a qualifying time (1.37.8)

I've had one win but pretty much been punted off on every race at the first sign of a braking zone. It likely hasn't helped that I've tried to avoid the Mclaren and use something else instead.

Race C next week looks fun - apart from the pits..

1st race of the day I started from 2nd. I wound up down in 6th thanks to another driver giving me a little push at Roggia and causing me to almost spin. I got it back under control, but not before him and several other cars went by me. I was able to pass 2 or 3 of the back thanks to them hitting each other and 2 of them spinning out and going off the track at Lesmo (turn 5). I passed another thanks to the speed of the McLaren on the straights going into Parabolica. I was up in 3rd at that point. Then, on lap 4, I missed the braking point at Roggia and went right into the paved area ahead, then got reset. That allowed the 4th place car to catch and pass me. I caught back up to him at Ascari after he ran a bit wide at Lesmo. I was trying to pass him coming down the straight coming up to Parabolica, but he kept blocking me. He went a tiny bit wide at Parabolica, I held the inside with better speed, and was able to make the pass just before the line and finish in 3rd. He kept trying to push me over to the pit wall, but I kept nudging back over to my left to keep that from happening.

The next race I started 8th and finished 4th. On lap 2, I was in 4th and got hit going into Roggia. I went straight across (too much speed even with the brakes fully on) and wasn't able to do anything but go through the paved area and come out clean. I kept the same position, though. I thought I'd get a penalty for it, but I didn't. I guess the game knew I was hit and forced there. Lap 3 was pretty uneventful, with the exception of the 3rd place car running wide and spinning at Lesmo that allowed me and several other drivers to pass him. I ran a bit too hot going into Ascari and had to stay on the brakes longer than normal which allowed the 2 behind me to pass me on the straight (down to 5th I go). On lap 4, the 3rd place driver was battling with the person in 4th and they were going at it pretty good. I caught them coming around Curva Grande, but had to lift as I was going over 180 thanks to the slipstream. They got together coming out of Roggia and the 4th place car spun; nothing really dirty, just them trying to go side-by-side through the chicane. The 3rd place car had the obviously line and the 4th place car tried to push his way inside but couldn't hold it. Thanks to 4th place spinning, I passed him and stayed on the back of 3rd place the rest of the way coming out of Ascari. I passed him easily using the slipstream and I was in 3rd coming around Parabolica. But the 4th place driver got on my inside and pushed me wide. I had to lift to keep from going TOO wide and he took 3rd. A little bit dirty, but I didn't push back. Due to where I was, it would've ended worse for me if I'd have tried that.

Managed to get some time in on Suzuka and I'm starting to understand the R18 as well. That car is all about shoving it in the corner early. I'll see if I can get to my 5% Kudos time tomorrow in a good session.

In other news, I got to try the game with a VR set! ... And the result is mixed, sad to say. On the one hand it's a really awesome view and I think it's integrated really well. I think it would actually end up making me faster at some point if I could use it.

Sadly though, the vertigo is absolutely killer. We were about 6 each trying it out in a rotation and everyone got the same feeling of motion sickness. I'm still a bit dizzy an hour after putting the set down.

It's a damn shame because I think I'd get one on the spot of I could nab one at a good price. VR and a wheel is a sick combo. Maybe they'll iron that out eventually? One can hope...

Man, Suzuka got dirty once people got comfortable with the cars. Punted and shoved off everywhere.

EDIT: Don't recall seeing another race where half the field has given up and left before the second half of the race before

Just did Race C in the GTR, started 4th, dropped to 5th and ended up finishing 4th. Started on softs and tyres were pretty wrecked by the end of lap 5 (motion controller)

My fastest lap (1.38.7) was 3 seconds slower than the 2 leaders 😳

9 DNFs behind probably helped boost my DR to 25k

Will try the Toyota next time..

Tried a Race A. Started 2nd/finished 5th (I think).

Insanely mixed grid from DR A to DR D. SR S/A. Wow. I'm proud I finished.
