Bathurst is pure luck most of the times. if u get into a race with clean drivers ( DR B / S ) it makes good fun but most of the times you have at least 1-3 complete idiots driving there believing they can overtake you basically everywhere.
Exactly. Except it's a lot more than 1-3 in my experience. More like 2/3 of the grid. Those morons will go for an overtake literally anywhere just because they are 1 km/h faster at that moment. You can't blame them though. That's exactly what this game teaches you in campaign mode. The AI is so slow and stupid that 99% of players race them by literally bulldozing through them. Last week in GT7 (Gr. 4 at Bathurst) it was better (but not by much) because damage was on and being really stupid could cost you many positions.

For me, one of the hardest transitions to make was from racing AI to racing humans....humans are WAY faster and way, Way, WAY more unpredictable.😁

How's the damage model workin' out? Seems like something that could be helpful, but only if done right. I've not played yet, and won't until I get my final trophy in GTS because, well, I'm weird like that. Also pretty confident that once I start on '7, I won't spend much time in Sport.

It was just light damage so it took like 30s until the car repaired itself but it was mostly hit-or-miss. I've been (many times) rear-ended so hard that it damaged my engine (which is in the front) and they just drove off basically unscathed with just their front bumper flashing on the damage indicator. Other times I would damage my front bumper and wheel from contact so light that it would barely scratch the paint in the real world. So it definitely is not realistic. It's probably meant to be more of a deterrent to dirty driving but a lot of players don't care and will gladly take you out if you're in their way because there's still at least 50/50 chance they get away with it.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've had GT7 since July and I've spent more time playing GTS. Online I mean. I probably won't stop playing GTS until they shut down the servers. A lot of (quite essential) features that have been in GTS for years are still missing in GT7. That game will not really be finished for at least another year, I'd say. Probably even more. If you haven't bought it yet, wait until it's on sale. Don't pay full price for it. PD don't deserve it for this.

Disappointing but not surprising on all counts. I didn't pick-up Sport until a couple years after its release so missed that launch 'party' but am assuming it wasn't all that dissimilar to what is happening in GT7 now. "Early adopter" status was never something I aimed for anyway so will likely do the same with this release...let it steep for a bit until it gets good and THEN wade into the waters. Still plenty of good racing going on in Sport so I'm good for now.😁

Thanks for the insight!

Was having fun at the 'Ring for a minute...then dove into Mt Panorama and haven't left. I've renamed it "Blast-hurst", it's a riot in there. Seen lots-o-familiar names and some amazing racers still havin' at it. One room Sunday had the first 12 spots at 2:01.xxx...crowds are gettin' tough. Same dirty folks doin' same dirty stuff, too. I'm still clumsy as hell but gettin' better.😁

When it's clean, it's amazing. When it's not, it's still amazing. Easily in my top-ten favorite tracks so whether it's P20 or P1 in the end, it's still a good time!

I’ve been at the Nurb GP. Done lots of races. The lobbies have been pretty full most times of the day (more than in the summer it seems). And the racing has been fairly clean.

I'm still surprised by the number of people on the grid. Was worried Saturday...first race was 8 cars. Next race, though, was a full lot of 20 and it hovered around 16-20 for the rest of the day. Made me hopeful...with any luck this is buying 'Sport some extended life-support. 😁

Yes, let’s hope it continues!

New dailies starting Sunday - Tsukuba, 6 laps, N100, Sports Hard; DT Gardens, Gr.3, 5 laps, Racing Medium; Sardegna A II, Gr.2, Fuel x2, Tire wear x7, Racing Soft (oddly, Kudos says there’s no mandatory stop, and also that racing mediums are mandatory at the pit stop?). Did a custom race and the softs can easily last 12 laps. Hope there’s a mandatory stop though.

Really enjoyed Race B at the Nurb GP in Gr.4. Lobbies full, quali times quick. Clawed my way up to A today. Looking forward to Sardegna. Long live GTS!

Looking forward to the new round of races! Was having fun over at the Nurb' but ended-up spending almost the entire time at Bathurst. Love the mountain!

I'm sure you CAN do 12 laps on the Softs, the bigger issue will be maintaining a level of competitiveness on them after that many miles. Be surprised if there wasn't a requirement to run both compounds during the race. 99.9999% positive that there will be a mandatory stop for this race.

Congrats on making it up to 'A'...took me FOREVER to get outta 'B'.

And here's one for all you cool-headed racers out there...how do you do it?? Seriously, I can be sorta quick on any given track (2:00:761 quali @ Bathurst) but simply fall apart during the race. This is 100% a mental thing so do appreciate the fact that there's no 'right' answer on offer, but wanted to see if there's any tricks that worked for folks that I might be able to leverage for myself. For instance, I was doing fine and losing minimal time to JTSR_Mysterious (only because I was on Softs, he was on Mediums...I'm not THAT delusional) until someone drafted right up to my bumper. As soon as that heat was turned-up, I started missing lines/brake points, hitting walls, etc. It's like I've got a noob trigger...once pulled, I am doomed.

Sorry if this is akin to asking for your Grandma's secret cookie recipe...😁

Thanks, though won’t be surprised if I drop back to B!

Haven’t logged on yet, but I’d be surprised if both compounds aren’t required in C. Hope so as it brings some strategy in.

Let’s hope the lobbies stay full and the racing relatively clean! Was Bathurst ok on that score?

Re nerves - I used to be plagued by that, less so lately. My trick, apart from really learning the track, is to realize that the stakes are low, there’s always another race.

I was the same, peaks and valleys on the points graph in Kudos. I've noticed over the last year that I've been able to minimize the disparity between those peaks and valleys. IMO, it's a graph of my progress as far as learning to drive. The bigger one for me was avoiding valleys on the Sr graph...gettin' better at that. 😁

Bathurst was pretty solid. I was in one or two early Sunday morning races that had 8 - 10 drivers, but would start running 15+ entries within a race or two. Racing was clean with a bunch of familiar names, good and bad. Some very, very fast people still playing, that's for sure.

The nerves thing is something I just gotta get over. Almost without fail, as soon as I start watching the rearview or time gaps, my lap falls apart. Kinda embarrassing at times, tbh. I've got to learn to roll-back my awareness level to cater to sportsmanship, but not revert to all out panic. Focus on my lap, not everyone else's. So easy to say....

GR2…

The 08 NSX is undrivable on worn tyres. Absolute oversteer monster on and off the throttle after couple of laps. Maybe if you use a steering wheel it’s manageable.

The prototype nsx is better but the power is much more aggressive with the turbo and I always keep TCS off.

Ended up in the GTR like everyone else.

How is the RCF? somehow I’ve never been gifted one so would have to use my credits to get one

Speaking of tire wear, how long have you all been running the softs?

Watched Mister Micah’s race guide from last year when PD had the same combo for Race C.

He said no more than 7 laps on softs or they’re too far gone (in the GT-R). I’ve run them to 10 without noticing a loss of grip. But I haven’t checked to see if the last few laps were slower than on fresh mediums.

The RCF has great power delivery and understeer in the same neighborhood as the GTR. I think the RCF is more drivable than the NSX but I'm not a huge fan of mid-engined cars, either. Pretty sure it's on the top 10 board so it's definitely capable. I like the GTR sans one thing, the throttle response. Not sure what is up with the throttle mapping for this car but it's just weird. Too soft in 1st/2nd and I struggle to keep boost/speed. I'll drive it if I have to, but I don't like to.

My personal favorite is the SC430. Power is bumped to 130% with minimal weight penalty. Throttle response is instant and the V8 just screams. Not the fastest, but a lot of fun to drive. FWIW, I ran some quali. laps with it and I'm less than 2 sec. off the top time, so it will definitely hang in a race...I'm just not racing there yet. Been over at DT Gardens.😁

Let us know what you think of the RCF then.

RCF is the pretty much the same as the GTR but maybe slightly worse. Bit more under steer, decent traction on the gas. Need to go back to the GTR to make anymore of a comparison.

Helps break up the monotony of it being a race full of thenm

More races or End-of-Line...that's the question of late. 'Enjoying the hell out of it while it lasts' is my go-to on that one. 😁

Hope everyone else is enjoying this round of races. Really thought I'd be all in on the Gr.2's because we don't get them often, but have been lovin' DT this month. Rooms are gettin' a bit thin, though. Was racing Saturday from 9 - 3pm ET and rooms were 8 -12. Been seeing a lot of familiar names and there's been plenty of great, door-to-door racing still to be had.

Teach Me: Let the limiter do the work or manage the needle?
On standing starts, what is the magic launch combo? In the Gr.4's, particularly the WRX/AWD, you can hit the start so that you literally LEAP forward on green. I try to catch it so that the revs are rising at/near red-line (but NOT on limiter) when the flag drops. A couple times at the 'Ring I almost hit the person in front of me at the auto-start (starting P3/4 @ final hairpin).

The overall effect seems heavily dependent on the car. For instance, the Gr.4 86 can't break the tires loose off the line EVER, so there is little to no noticeable difference. In Gr.3's I've noticed a couple of foot gain when using torque heavy cars like the Viper and the Jag. Couple feet may not seem like much, but when you're trying to get in the draft from the start, it can make a HUGE difference between you and the driver behind (eg. <ANY OTHER CAR> vs. the field of McLarens at Monza 😁).

Curious if others have noticed and leverage this.

I enjoyed Sardegna in the Gr2s. But rooms were also a little thin. Seemed like DT Gardens was more popular, at least when I ventured over.

We have another set of races.

Anyone tried them? I did a few at Spa today. No mandatory pit stop. Think you can use either tire (IMs or Wets). I found it too dicey on IMs.

I have GOT to learn to check Kudos' for this stuff...thanks for mentioning!

I avoid the rain like the plague...just can't have fun there. Maybe I'll give this one a run to see how it goes. Though, Maggi' is one of my favorite tracks, soooo that's gonna be tough to walk-away from. The Gr.4's are a blast to throw around and the racing is usually pretty fun. Hope to see you out there!

Yes, LM in Gr4 should be a good race B. I can never get the big hairpin at the bottom of the course right though.

I don’t mind wet races, though this is really WET. Like undriveable on IMs wet. But the last race I did today had 20 drivers! Haven’t seen a lobby that full in GT7!

Let’s hope GTS keeps going!

First wet race I’ve ever done. My love of a MR car bit me again. 6 laps in couldn’t keep it pointing the right way and un did all my good work.

Might have to give in and put TCS on as the tyres start to wear.

I’ve been winning a lot of races at Spa which is unusual for me! I’m running the RSR with TC at 3. Also don’t run IMs. It’s wet enough for wets.

I’ve got my qualifying time down to 2:47 which puts me at or near the front of the grid. That and being consistent is key. I’ve found that a lot of drivers either quit or go off a lot, which makes them slow. Yesterday I lapped P6 on lap 5 or 6. And half the grid DNF’d!

Hope to see you out there! I’ve had some good races with drivers at the front of the grid. Lobby numbers so so - one race full with 20, others with 10 or fewer.

I can see on the delta I’m quicker with TCS off versus even have it set to 1.

The flip side is it’s near impossible to do anything other than literally roll out of the slow corners until the car is perfectly straight and settled, the chicane is particularly painful.

Try TCS off and I’ll bet you’ll improve your qualifying.

Jumped into Maggiore yesterday. Full grid, good close racing, though with the usual minority of rammers!
I saw the top 10 qualifiers were all FF and had flash backs to the bad old days. The horrendous performance balancing handicapping all the RWD cars.

Dunno what it is about front wheel drive GR4 but it’s just seems to bring out the worst in people. Think the under steer makes them angry.

Thanks. Will try it in qualifying. I raced with TC 2 today and it felt as stable as 3. Guy in P1 who was a second a lap quicker said he was using TC2.

This is a copy of a GTS race earlier this year. Watched Mistah Micah’s lap guide and he wasn’t using TC and did a 1:43! He did have BB to the front in the NSX to save the rear tires.

Yeah, I remember those races! The days when the Audi TT was OP!

I’m using the 458. Front end just turns without the rear getting too loose. Fun to drive!

Happy New Year, all!!

May your laps in 2023 be quicker than they were in 2022, my friends!!
Hi, hope your year is starting strong, I haven't played GTS in a month cause I bought gt7 2 months ago and I have been addicted and hooked on that, see there are better features there and more new tracks/courses to race on.

In both GTS and GT7 this week, there are oval races in race A. I view the GTS version of Race A in a more positive light than the GT7 counterpart. In fact, I had a race win there today.
Can you shed any light on why the top qualifying time is using combination of wet front and intermediate rear?

For the GTS special stage route x GT40 race.

In gt7 the Tsukuba will be the setting for daily race A which is not oval. It is still a short circuit track though.
