Due to lack of time I usually don't do Daily Races much, but this weekend I jumped into race B on my alt (mid-A DR, main being around 60K).
I used the 458 as I'm tempted to go Ferrari in FIA next year (or rather in an shorter exhibition series this winter) and it's a tricky car to drive with others around, but I think it's a good way to improve throttle control.
Anyway, I first started from the back with no Q but the awful driving standards quickly forced me to set a decent Q time (28.2xx) that was enough to put me towards the front in the following races, where I thought the quality of racing would improve.
BOY was I wrong! For those who regularly do dailies, how do you deal with the sh**show this has turned into? Divebombing at EVERY corner, from 2-5 tenths behind if not more, blocking, never leaving room on the outside when defending the inside, etc.
I'd have stopped playing this game a long a time ago if FIA didn't exist (not perfect but a 10000× better experience overall).
Is race C any better, being longer maybe, closer to FIA format ?!
Just lost a podium finish due to that. Driver came flying into the corner, hit me, we both go off the track (well, the racing surface, anyway; Turn 1 at RBR). He gets not penalty, but I lost a position, down to 4th. It pissed me off because I was in the slipstream of the 2nd place car and could've made a fight for it. But dude just takes me out and takes a podium spot. And 1st and 2nd place go on to open a HUGE margin on the rest of us. I just don't get the thinking of people like that. It's like they're OK with just getting a podium spot. Just being on the podium is good enough. Me? I'd rather fight for a higher spot if I can and do better and be better. But NOT by divebombing another driver and taking both of us out to where we can't make up any more positions; of possibly lose more positions. It's just asinine. I guess he'll tell all his buddies how he finished in 3rd. But he'll conveniently leave out the fact that he had to take out another driver to get there. If I hit someone, and they get thrown off the track, I'll slow down and let them pass me. I did that in DR A yesterday. And by doing so, I lost 4 other positions. But it was the right thing to do. And if that makes me naive, or gullible, or dumb/stupid, then I'll take it. I'd rather do the right thing than take a win or a higher spot by taking out someone else.
So I'm doing DR A, and we're on lap 6. I'm in 8th. The guy ahead of me hits a cone that'd been thrown onto the track, and his car goes straight up in the air about 10 feet. Funniest damn thing I've seen in a while, in this game. I lost some time just from laughing at it.
Just did DR B. Started 2nd, finished 2nd. My highest finish, so far. There was 1 tiny little bump at the very 1st corner, but other than that, it was a clean race. I got barely nudged by 3rd place as we were going into the turn, but not even enough to take me off the line or even slow either of us down. The 1st place car (McLaren P1) drove like a mad man. He took off and I finished almost 5 seconds behind him. He was driving a perfect race. I was in the Viper, again. I finished more than 7 seconds ahead of 3rd. All told, a very good race for me. That's my 2nd podium finish. I'm really hoping to either qualify in 1st or
finish in 1st one of these days.
Well, no sooner had I posted that, and I went into another DR B.....and I got my very 1st win. I started 3rd. And on lap 3, the top 2 cars ran wide at turn 3, and I took the lead. I couldn't believe it when it happened. It wasn't done by racing and passing other cars on the track, but I'll take that 1st win. I also set a fastest lap, but someone set a faster one on the next lap. That would've been my 1st fastest lap, as well, if it'd have stood.
