Daytona 24 Minute Race: Daytona Road Course

Has anyone actually managed a Deltawing win? Seems a few attempted with no luck. Might try it out myself for challenge's sake but I don't own either of them and not sure which is the better choice. Thoughts?

Yes, at least two of us that I have read, check up thread.

Glad to see you're correct. Just got 840k on a third run. Twice though? Even after a complete reboot? Bah. Never got the pop up in the upper right showing that I wasn't still on the PSN.
I know how frustrating it is. It has only happened maybe 3 or 4 times to me in over a year, and probably a couple of those were on the same day. Every time it happened, I had no idea I was disconnected from PSN until I finished my race/seasonal and scratched my head at the low payout. Then I would notice my #5 missing to show my consecutive days logged in, so it gave me the base payout. Very, very frustrating. Even worse, it once happened to me and I had just set an impossibly good time, for me, on a Seasonal Event Time Trial. So, it didn't actually get posted under my account. I never did match that time..  :banghead:

This is my non-LMP car list so far,

The winners:

'97 BMW McClaren F1 GTR, Next best choice to an LMP other than the 330.
'95 McClaren F1 GTR, Paintable...PINK!!!!
'06 Corvette LM, Cheapest car to win with so far. Half PINK!!
Ford GT LM Spec II Race Car, PINK wheels!!!
Honda HSV-010 GT All PINK!!
'67 Ferrari 330 P4
'66 Jaguar XJ13 Race Car, PINK!!
'04 Vertigo Race Car
Camaro LM Race Car, Not Paintable in GT6...Boo!!!

The not so close list;

FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo, 5th place, I hadn't done an oil change and may try it again with one, needs only one stop and might be able to win if the Hybrid spin out at some point in the race.

BMW Z4 GT3 7th place...as badly as this car wants to hit the wall on it's own, is as badly as I wanted to drive it into the wall. I thought the Vertigo was miserable on the speedway banking until I drove this...yikes, lol.

Thanks for giving my the idea: I must try the Vertigo  I like the way this car handles and her look. A pity it's so pixellised.

By the way, the road car version would be much appreciated in GT6 for sure... (sorry, videos in german and french...)

Are you adding extra parts to these cars, what strategy are you generally using and do you have any tunes you can share that would help with those cars?

TS030 is an easy win with @SW__10 outstanding tune from Apricot Hill Seasonal. Similar experience to @Aussie_HSV reported with a different TS030 tune.

It seems like the penalties have been turned off or turned down? I bumped quite a few spun vehicles and no penalty. Only when I was surprised by a braking point I hit one firmly and that got me a 3 second penalty. Hooray for less serious racers!

Controls
DS3, trigger throttle and brake, left stick steering
Driving Line: On [just to create visible reference points, only follow it to exit bus stop chicane]
Active Steering: Off
Traction Control 4 [could be 3 or less with Racing Mediums, hadn't tried these tyres on it before!]
ASM: Off
ABS: 1
SRF: On [forced on!]
Steering: 5

Setup
Added an oil change
to get the most power and full downforce for more speed around the infield.

I added 5kg of ballast at 50% following @Mini Stiggy winning advice in that thread.

Also did Restore Body Rigidity because it's done 1,600km - most of it at wonderful Apricot Hill seasonal time trial. :D

Top Speeds
It just about touches 300km/h by itself without a tow. With a perfect tow behind a Jaguar XJR-9 and low fuel I hit the limiter, which my gearing put at 336km/h. Was nowhere near the limiter for the rest of the race.

Strategy
Racing Medium tyres, one pit stop on the lap after half distance.
That last lap before pits had quite a bit of understeer. Easy to control. Added 75 litres of fuel but might only need 70 or less. [EDIT: 65 isn't quite enough!]

There was a brief shower as I was going down the pits. Cleared up after half a lap. Track surface water never went about 0% but I saw a tiny bit of spray from AI.

There were 10 seconds left as I approached the line on lap 14. I was about 20 seconds ahead of 2nd place.

I lapped a Jaguar XJR-9 and a few cars before it. Some LMPs had terrible spins at the bus stop chicane so that might be why I lapped them.

Pace
Most of my laps were 1m35s to 1m40s
with a spin giving me a 1m44s. Didn't exceed pit limiter thanks to @WhoosierGirl photos of correct pit lane entry. so my car left as soon as fuel was done. Watch the fuel gauge if it feels like you are waiting for nothing.

16th place and got laped on my first attempt, 2nd place only 18 seconds behind the leader on my second attempt... I can already smell the victory! :D. Never had so much fun on Daytona though since I really dislike this track. In fact I dislike everything to do with indy / stock car / nascar, yes even the road courses. :D

Using the 787B stealth model with Praiano's 700pp tune but to get to 691pp I added extra weight to the rear (54 kg instead of 9 in the tune). Is that good or should I leave it at 9 kg and reduce engine power a bit?

I also started on RM but had to pit after 5 laps instead of 6. :D But since my rears are wearing down faster than the front tires I put RM on the front and RH at the back, it improved my lap times and I could pit again in lap 11. Changed to RS front and back to finish the rest of the race. Next attempt I will start with RM front and RH rear, pit at lap 6 keep the same tire setup and then pit at lap 12 again to change all tires to RS.

Thanks Praiano for the lovey tune! Keep my 787B much better on the track than the default settings. ;)

Breyzipp, it's an enduro. No need to go all out if you get in front, or even if not there yet because you know the AI does more than 1 stop. Manage the gap. Short shift a lot, too.

Good job, Ben.

Check this out, I was sitting in the pit at the end of lap 8 and it started to rain. Then upon reentry this is the most rain I've seen. I'm in the Nissan R92. Fast car. Torque.

Edit, and can win with a 1 stopper, too.

I couldn't do it in the Deltawing, even with Praiano's super stable tune. 1:40/1:39s seemed to be my best in it and even without the need to pit I couldn't drive it to be fast enough for a win.

Re: the DeltaWing a little bear suggested to me to use RH front and RM rear tires. It is still no cake walk, but you can go without a pit stop to lap 14 for sure. For me the car was still extremely pointy at times. You can have a few offs and still manage P1 though.

The best/ easiest car so far for me is the Minolta as suggested by @MTM79 https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...tona-road-course.322970/page-10#post-10410272 With Praiano's tune https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-bull-x2014-junior.291084/page-34#post-920250 I use RM tires, no Tc and 5/5 on the brakes. I purchased the car new and did not do an oil change. I did have to go to 5.500 for initial final drive for the gear set to match too. Pit at the end of lap 7 an 12, plan to do 15 laps with a bit of fuel, or if you have banked enough time park lap 14 and cross just after 24.

Good times!

An easy way to get millions.
an easier and MUCH faster way to get a million (or millions) is completing the trial mountain race in red bull standard championship at 200% bonus .. $248,000 per race that you can finish in under 3 minutes .. x20 for an hour spent and you get somewhere north of $4.96 million .. or you can complete the whole championship (5 races) plus the winning bonus at the end for a total of $2.2 million in 20 minutes < still quicker and a lot more than one payout from the 200% gain of nascar 24 min seasonal.

Hmmm, a little birdie told me the same.

Anybody tried the Red Bull junior ? Fantastic handling but PP is too much...

Aye but I was so far off the pace I gave up quickly. In LMP cars biggest problem for me is not going off track and spinning out under braking with worn tyres. ..once I get past those issues I can win in some cars.

Turn traction on to 5 or more if you want to drive worn tires or fit the rear tires harder than the front .

I add all the parts except oil changes, unless needed. All except the FT-1 and 330 P4 were two stops and RH the whole way. I just added a basic setup I start with on all cars, which is...

Remove toe and camber, max down force, LSD 9/13/5, drop the rear height 5 more than the front, springs down to 1.0 over the lowest and 3,4,6 for dampers and ARB's. The Vertigo needs the springs raised and the front lowered to turn on the banking but only used it once and never adjusted it.

Edit:

I forgot about one, the 2D, RM's with only one stop.

Ah nice one thanks for sharing that. I'm looking for a good challenge so these cars should be good fun.

I've been going through wins by the number of pit stops and so far I've managed:

0 stops - Nissan Deltawing (Stock)
1 stop - Toyota TS030 (Stock)
2 stops - Audi R18 TDI (Stock)
3 stops - Peugeot 908 (Stock)
4 stops - Peugeot 908 (Stock)

5 stopper might be possible in the Audi R8 '01...

I know you like to challenge yourself by using anything other than a LMP but, maybe you can use one and see if you can lap the entire field.

One stop. I go until the fuel gauge red light comes on. It all depends on where I am in relation to the Start/Finish line. If the red light is on before I cross the line, I come in. If not, I stay out. Lap 7 or 8 or 9, depends on the car. Full fuel every time, just in case.

My usual settings for this event for every car so far:

stock pp with no oil changes or body rigidity
raise the car 5mm from all the way up
full soft springs
1/1
1/1
3/3
0/0
0/0
brakes 2/1
stock trans
lsd 10/30/20
full aero

I am shocked that more people aren't using RS tires considering they are allowed in this event. I have run with RM tires a couple of times. My best lap time wasn't even a second faster than RH, but they wore out quicker than RH, so I really don't see the point in using RM tires. I'm sure the RS tires would give considerable grip early on, but they must wear out extremely quick.

I haven't run this event as much as most of you as I have been quite sick lately, but I have noticed a few things about this event. It's much more important that you pace yourself early on (the first 2 laps) rather than driving like a bat out of hell trying to get to first. You're not going to even come close and there are very good odds that you'll lose control and either spin, which is going to waste a considerable amount of time, or you're going to hit a wall or another car and incur a 5-second penalty.

In a few of my races I've noticed that I was ~26 seconds behind first place when the split time is shown on the screen just after leaving the infield section and getting back onto the banked oval section on my first lap of the race. I usually pass a few cars those first couple of laps, but for some reason I'm usually still ~26 seconds behind 1st place on Lap 2 at the same point. Instead of scratching my head and panicking - I just press on, focusing on driving as fast and smooth as possible.

Again, you don't have to drive like you're trying to set a world record. In fact, by going around the tight bends in the infield in a taller gear you will eliminate wheel spin and save tread on those tires. Think about it. If you drive like a madman, at the end of the race you'll probably only cross the finish line 10-15 seconds quicker than if you focused 100% on being smooth and safe. Remember, the faster you drive, the more the rabbit may push, if he has a chance. If you acquire a couple 5 second penalties by driving like a madman, what have you really gained?

I didn't think I was going to have quite this much fun with this event because I hate driving at night on Daytona's infield, but it has been fun. I hope everyone is having a blast too. Oh, and if anyone HAS used RS tires - let me know how it effected your race. Did you have to make a 3rd pit stop with a car you typically can finish the race with only 2 stops?
