January 7th

NCemtB / Lotus Elise '96 / Premium / 407 PP / Tuned / ABS - 1

Really bummed, just remembered last night when I was time trialing my Elise in that I have a work commitment on the 7th. Let's hope the 14th will finally be my return.

Monday, January 7th at Monaco

You're using the standard 111R?

Yes, why are you asking?

Edit: for anyone really curious and interested in exactly what level PP I am having using that particular car in stock form with a BB off 4/2 and driving from the cockpit view using clutch and gate shifter, the answer is 479. :)

Because it's rather collectible. I haven't touched mine since I bought it from the OCD.

Just sent you an other one so now you have one to collect and one to play.:)
In cockpit view then hands are moving when shifting, rare in a standard.

The car I am really looking for to see in the OCD is the Standard 300SL '54.

Oh right! Sorry. I see why you use it now. The 300SL Is nice though.

In the lounge, testing my Blue Motor Sport Elise. I will probably be in the lounge for awhile, getting back into the swing of things.

Anyone be up for some practice races around 8:00pm EST if we can get 3-4 or more people?

I'll be there. 👍

Edit: As NC called it off due more important things , I'm calling it a night. I will be available for practice with others on this track through this whole week, I need to figure out if I like my little Elise in a group scenario. :dopey:

Love to but I'm completely bagged :yuck:

Have a look at this link:

Gtplanet Weekly Rewind 15 Years and Counting

...scroll down to just before halfway, and you can see the Tune of the Week featuring the name of our little group!! I'm posting a few tunes on the Nurb PP Board as well with our name attached to it and in any future F.I.T.T. Tuning Events I enter and anywhere else I can think of to get the word out. Just squeaked out a victory at Spa with the S2000 LM against a very tight field, it's a great ride to throw around the track.

I'm going to rework it for the Nurb and I think it might have what it takes, to at least temporarily, to unseat the Lotus 111R, and take the top spot in the 500PP SM category. I'll probably post it here too as it may come in handy some race for someone.

The name DeadNutsEven will eventually be world famous and we can all say we were founding members!! :)

I'm posting a few tunes on the Nurb PP Board as well...

I was looking through that a few weeks ago, and I caught a flash of the DNE logo as I was scrolling through! Had to go back and look at it, and surely enough, it was a little white S2K with DeadNutsEven across it! I've been seeing the club everywhere now. :dopey:

My little one is being cranky and decided that she required more attention than GT5...

Good work with the publicity, JP (and congrats on your tune making the front page).

Thanks Sag. How is the G27 working out? I figured you'd be down to 350PP with your new wheel..lol.

Speaking of new wheels, I just got a G27 myself the other day (Best Buy price matched an online retailer, got it for about $235 all in) but haven't had time to take it out of the box, let alone figure out what to do with it. I have a custom made rig I've attached my DFGT too, using the word custom loosely. Originally it was an adjustable aluminum tube arrangement to hold the wheel on a tiltable base along with a foot pedal base with adjustable angles, attached to a painted sheet of 1/2 inch MDF. I since changed the cheap seat for a captains chair, then had to raise the aluminum frame to accomodate the higher seat...now it's a cobbled together mess...lol.

So I think I'll start over and scavenge the aluminum frame and pedal base and rebuild the platform and add a sort of pseudo console/armrest/cupholder for the shifter, just not sure what to use to finish it. If I have time I'll get started on it this weekend, leaving the old one intact until I move everything over...hopefully. Shouldn't interfere with Monday's race.

Mine is even more of a cobbled together mess...

An actual racing seat! --But its mounted on office-chair wheels, so it slides everywhere, and hurts my lower back very badly.:indiff:

A brake mod! --But its just two bungees wrapped around the brake for more "feel." (and trust me, its not professional in any way) :boggled:

I thought of buying a G27 when Amazon was selling them for cheap, but I just stuck with my worn out DFGT. :guilty:

Oh yeah! I have a surge-protector that everything's plugged into!

Welcome to the G27 club JP. Invert the pedals, feels much more realistic. You won't be disappointed regardless.

The G27 is unbelievably wonderful. Since you are moving up from the DFGT, you may think I'm exaggerating, but coming from a (problematic) DFP, it's liked I've moved to a new planet. The feel on both right-foot pedals is a huge step forward and the steering feel/motion is likewise much improved. I feel my speed is probably roughly the same, but the improved feel gives the impression it has improved my consistency slightly and made fixing both slight mistakes and huge slides to be much easier. It's now much easier to do proper counter-steering.

The only thing that hasn't been peachy is the shifter. Not the shifter itself, I haven't gotten a chance to test it properly yet, but the clamp has not worked well with my table top setup and the shifter was moving around when I tried to use it. My set-up is not ideal, a small end table in front of a sofa, but it is fairly comfortable and has not provided me any problems until this shifter-clamp issue. I'm now looking at play-seats and looking into building something better myself, but it's not really a priority. Good luck with your construction, hope it works out well for you.

As for the Elise, I'm pretty sure the motorsport Elise isn't as fast as the premium Elises at the same PP, so I'm not surprised I'm nowhere near the lowest pp of the round. Also, I can't seem to find a good brake balance so I'm forced to brake early. I'm using 2/1, which seems ok, but still the rear end wants to overtake the front if I try to turn in too early.

My seat is a captains chair out of a mini-van, complete with high back and arm rests, manual lumbar and recline!!. It's incredibily comfortable and mounts with a drill and 4 bolts. Probably get one from a wrecker or any dude with a mini-van up on blocks in the 'hood for $20. Well worth it.

For the DFGT I swear by stuffing water pipe insulation material behind the brake in addition to the bungee's. You can buy a length for a buck and cut it into various piece and strips to get the feel you want. Just shove it into the cavity behind and it works great.

Glad to hear the wheel is working out for you. I'm not expecting the G27 to be light years ahead of the DFGT, I'm just hoping for a little more accurate feel in terms of feedback from the wheel when it comes to breaking loose, turn in bite, curb hopping etc, and of course a bit quieter as the DFGT had quite a bit of noise while working. The pedals seem much more realistic right out of the box, but I'm already thinking of stuffing some pipe insulation into the brake spring for improved feel...lol. If I can't rig something up at home with a little ingenuity or find a stiffer or progressive spring replacement locally, I'll just get the Nixim mod spring for the brakes. I understand the clutch is a bit clunky with the G27 in GT5 so that isn't a big priority for me although it'll be fun to practice with.

The set up I have now, has two strips of sandpaper like material (probably the same stuff you see on some stairs for traction) glued to the wood base that the wheel clamps onto. I clamped the wheel down once and it has never moved. You might be able to do the same thing by going to the hardware store (I find Home Hardware great for things like this) and getting a smal amount of rubber sheet or something similar, cut it to fit and then just place it on the flat surface you mount the gear shift to before tightening the screws. Looks to me like there are two threaded holes just for some bolts so I'll probably bolt mine down so it can't move.

Room open for no ABS track day with comfort medium restriction, track is Daytona Road Course. Anyone free to join in the fun :embarrassed:, just casual practice.

1472-6681-3158-0100-3436

Had a guy joined in, Watson something, left after I said hi :(

Running Ferrari F40, stock, 2:07.xxx :)

Another one joined in, then left in less than a minute ... :(

Edit : I had a member from GTP in the room, and a couple more stayed, met some nice people there who love to drive with no ABS and CM tire, room is now relegated, not sure how long it will stay on.

My very first vehicle when I was a teen was a hand-me-down GMC Safari mini van... To this day it's probably still the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel.

Big 4.3 L V6 and rear wheel drive in a big metal box... It was very quick for what it was, and I could do donuts for hours in the winter time with virtually no effort. It had 4 captains chairs (which were amazingly comfortable) and a removable bench in the back which easily left enough room for two teenagers to "lay down and relax"... And the huge sliding side door which made for the perfect vandalism hatch.

I really miss that thing sometimes...

The wheel and pedals are definitely a nice improvement over the DFGT (plus my brake does not register as being on from time to time...a problem I was having with the DFGT that pushed me to the G27). There are times I really enjoy the clutch/shifting and other times it is more frustrating than it is worth. I had not been using it much the last couple of races with this group due to inconsistencies. Before the update, I was pretty comfortable with the timing for upshifting and downshifting with heel/toe action. The update took away a lot of my timing and just made it more frustrating with more missed shifts than I cared for. A lot depended on the car too. Gear ratio's transmission selection definitely have an impact on the smoothness of shifting. It is still quite a bit of fun to take an old favorite out around the Ring or any other favorite track and slam through the gears.

Looks like I'm out for tomorrow gents, have to work now... 🤬

If anyone would be open to an additional/alternative date like we've done in the past, I'm off work Tues-Thurs... Anytime should be convenient.

Interesting topic, Cote.

I would say that I'm 50% Racer and 50% Driver.

I pick cars that I like, and I drive them again and again in a series. (NSX) I've signed up for 2 different LeMans/FIA/GT World Championship Series, I generally like to stick to the same kinds of endurance races.

However, this is where the "Driver" portion comes in. I drive for realisticity sake. I know most modern race cars have ABS, but GT models it so poorly, I don't use it. I also like to have different "driving experiences," versus just driving an NSX because its fast.

I love taking out difficult and fun cars to drive out on the 'Ring with the time set at dawn or dusk. Its beautiful running through the gears on a McLaren F1 through the undulating parts of the track, with the sun setting behind me, all the while knowing I'm on the edge of control, without any aids to fall back on. :dopey: I can spend hours getting every last tenth of a second on Trial Mountain in an F40. The more unforgiving the car is, the more fun I have in it. I did the 560PP German Seasonal in a stock Yellowbird, it was an awesome experience, learning where the car would snap, and how to use it to your advantage to gain momentum for the next corner.

So, that sums up how I use GT5. I occasionally hop in cruise rooms because my friends are there. I know, I'm a terrible person for that.
