The only place that I think im going to have a problem is the last few corners before the start/finish line. A little bit of under steer sometimes makes me go off right at the end of the corner, But I should be able to come back on safely on the straight.

I was also playing around with adding weight to reduce pp, but i found that braking zones got longer. so I just stayed with the restricted power set up.

24 Hours Of Daytona today!!!!!!!!!!! :dopey:

You might just need to lift a bit before exit to get the car to rotate through those corners better. If you do go off, make sure you don't come back on the track right behind someone and then try to brake into the first corner right behind them because if you still have grass on the tires you'll take them out and yourself too.

The key in that set of turns...for me at least, is to lift a little at the half way point to get a good rotation and throttle out on the exit. If I remember correctly there are almost 5 turns in that long sweep after the chicane. I can usually be full throttle through the first 2, lift a bit at the 3rd, then get a good rotation out.

The NSX's lift-off oversteer is very useful through that set of corners, I barely lift off the throttle and the car points itself to the apex. Its very handy. I can take the last apex before the straight at 76mph (122km/h) and by the time I get to the straight I'm going roughly 80mph.

:P Its still a 24 hour multi-class race.

Yeah yeah... I watched some of it last night, mainly to see Allan McNish run. But between the Daytona Prototypes and the GT cars with window nets and no side windows, it's just a little half-hearted in my eyes. I guess I'm just a traditionalist when it comes to my sports car racing.

I'm rooting for the LeMans guys and the Ferraris. And its extremely half-hearted now that the Mazda's can't even run rotaries. Diesel sedans? That's just sad. Back when the ALMS & DP's came to Utah, I went to the races. I can say for a certainty the LeMans atmosphere was much more focused on the race. The DP guys were just kinda hanging around the pitlane.

When I was at the Salhens six hours of the glen last year it was a real relaxed atmosphere. Slow and lazy pit stops, and as I was walking around the paddock cars where just parked out side of trailers with not even a "do not cross" tape and nobody around. I could have hopped in almost every car, and start playing with buttons. I even got to help push the 99 Gainsco car with some random guy and his little kid.
This series just went from 2-3 classes, and AMLS has like 4-5? I think? I havent watched that series though a whole season, I dont know when its on.

The last time I went to ALMS was 2006 or something, back when the Audi R10's faced off against the yellow DHL Porsches. I remember there being LMP1-2 and GT1-2, so, 4 classes. I have some pictures somewhere... :sly:

The DP race was exactly as you described, I could stand basically wherever I wanted and take pictures of anything. The cars were ugly, but it was fun. 👍

Yeah, the only place I didnt go was the pit lane and out on the track. The 2 series are merging next year so even more classes. Hope they keep Watkins Glen on the schedule.
Anyone know if the Continental Sports Car Challenge is still going to be the support event?

Anyone interested in having a crack at the Corvette in TT#54, I posted this tune in the Seasonals Forum. So far good for a 1:18.611 and 71st place.

If anyone is interested, I'm going to try to get on tonight for some practice and dial in my car. Probably around 21:00 Eastern.

Talking earlier about keeping track of winners: I'm not usually the one that wins, so whatever prize there may be isn't something I'll see. But I do like that SNAIL gives winners the choice of car/track combos. I just hated that there were so many clown combos picked. Combos where it wasn't a race, just attrition.

I think you could let the winner pick, so we don't always wind up with Johnny's favorites, and since people can take whatever car they want, you don't have that sort of clown choice. Though, I would do a two week delay. Whomever wins on week A picks the track/tires/target time for week C. Whomever wins on week B picks for week D, and so on.

Just an idea.

I really like the 3400 S, the RGT, and large (1680 Kg) GT cars on sports tires. I don't know how often I'll be able to pick those sort of cars.

How often have you guys tried this format on endurance races, with tire wear and damage? Is there anyone really interested in 60-90 minute races?

Excellent tune right there. I'm 722nd overall as of an hour ago, using that tune.

As in the Parity League before this, and continuing here, I'm just basically cycling through all the tracks whether I like them or not. We were at GP/D back for the first Parity Race many months ago, but I'm not sure we've repeated any other tracks, my bad memory notwithstanding. We've also tried higher PP's and stickier tires but the consensus was that it wasn't very good racing, although the last couple of weeks have been on the low side.

So I'd be open to someone else picking the combo's so long as it's within the paramters we've reached an informal consensus on, and I'll simply veto anything that doesn't fit:sly:

As for the enduro, I'd be up for that. If someone else wants to organize it that would be fine with me...lol.:)

I'd make a poll seeing if there is any interest in it, so we don't end up with only 3 of us circling a track for 2 hours.

Once you put up an offical poll you can never remove it so no polls here. You can do an informal poll however. My suggestion for an endure would be to try and run it after the Monday event, under a set of regs we've already used so if anyone wants to just hop in a car and go they can, and start small, like a 30-40 minute race.

I'll put up a Google docs poll tonight or tomorrow.

I'll also ask if there is another night of the week that would work, and things like track preferences, or do they have any interest in time change and the such.

I'd be good with doing it on a Monday, as long as we could start it by around 22:00 eastern. But I wouldn't want to do it on something like Cape Ring anything.

Going to the lobby now for some practice. How many laps does it take you to reach the target time? It takes me 7 laps every time I practice with this integra to reach a 1.03.xxx, then I can run that time consistently.

If you want to organize it, you can pick the track and setup you like. I made suggestions above, but you can take them or leave them. You might also want to open it up to the general public with a post in Spot Races or Interest Checks, as we have a rather small pool to draw from here.

Me personally, I can't commit to anything when I'm on call, so I put myself down as a maybe for just about every event I enter.

That's about right. It's a short track, takes time for the tires to get warmed up. 7 laps here is like 4 laps at GP/D last week for example.

Hi, guys, just want to give a heads up, I can't join in the race later on, I haven't got my new HDD yet ( shutdown error imminent ), so I'll post my tuned for the Supra instead maybe ... if anyone interested in driving a NA Supra sometime on later race, I am more than happy to share it, it sits at 380PP now, tuned for Cape Inside, but if anyone wanted track specific tune, give me a shout :D

Don't know about everyone else but I had a great time tonight (Cape Ring Inside). Other than my own screw up in race 2, I was pretty consistent all night. Made many passes as well, both from mistakes and from taking advantage of my slight edge in grip in some corners. I thought everyone was very close in pace, in spite of the different drivetrains and tires. Only thing hindering perfection was driver error:sly:

Target time achieved with 1971 Mustang Mach 1, 404 PP and full stock weight + full ballast, CS Tires, tire wear off.
Top speed at end of front straight - 209 km/h (130 mph)
Maximum Speed 218 km/h (136 mph)

Heat 1: 5 laps, fastest first
Heat 2: 5 laps, reverse grid
Race 1, 2 and 3: 12 laps, reverse grid.

Note: This is a dual compound race on CS and SH Tires. If you cannot meet the target time under the Max Speed on CS Tires, you must switch to SH.
Car selection is limited to American Muscle only pre-1979 including the Trans Cammer. We'd like to stick to street only for this race but if you need a race car to make the target that's ok too.

Great racing tonight, had loads of fun. I had some very close bumper to bumper racing all around the whole track. Cant wait for next week, see you there.

Must explain leaving early: I spun into a distant last in the last race and ended a horrid racing day early to go to the gym before it closed.

Must say, the car/track combo was not enjoyable as I never got comfortable and was off the pace. Should be better next week with a tried and tested old favourite. :)

ARRRRRRRGH!!! The track for next week should be Grand Valley East Reverse!!! I'll fix it tonight...sorry...:dunce:

Sorry I was late last night. I will say that the racing was intense, and that was good, but... I don't think I made any passes (unless the car infront of me went off). And that isn't bad, in and of itself. Good close, tense racing is fun. But, I got passed, more than a little.

The first race I was in, I start on the pole, since it was reverse grid. Through the sweeper, I start wide, and drop to the inside. Starting wide, means that others stick themselves in, and I can't go down. So now we both lift. But it doesn't mater. In this case, the other driver was Johnny and his big ol' Holden. So we beats me down the straight.

For the rest of the race, all I could do was follow. There was more than one lap where I closed down on him between turn two and the end of the sweeper. If I do it right, when I get back on the throttle after turn two, I run flat out, full throttle until we brake hard for the chicane after the sweeper. And when I did it right, it was obvious that was faster than Johnny through that section.

So in a way, it was like last week. I went for lap after lap last week with faster cars behind me through the corners, and I didn't care. And this week, I had a better car through the corners and was slower on the straight (or not faster) and thus it was pretty un-eventful.

I forget which race it was, but I was behind Johnny and Sagaris and as we came out of the sweeper I was much faster and tried to out brake and get past them. It was the only way a pass was going to happen. As we go into the chicane, I was well clear of Johnny, and was giving Sagaris as much space as I could.

He didn't give me as much space as he could. So I backed out to keep it from being physical, and that was enough for all the traffic that was behind me to get past, too.

As an aside, that was also where Ferrari got into my side and I spun. I'm not upset about that. I haven't looked at the replay, but it was close tight racing, and I'm pleased that there wasn't more contact than that.

Anyway, I think this system promotes a lot of close driving, but as for racing, it favors cars that are faster down the straight (and cars that are faster in the corners shouldn't do what I did and stick to the fastest line, they should stick to the inside). I think that will be more evident next week with Grand Valley's long front straight.

As NC mentionned during the evening we are all very even, dead nuts even, so the new system improvement, with the 2 different tyre compounds and the speed limit works. Honestly, I do not see how we could be more even than this. too much of a good thing is often not the road to better thing.
Evenness also means homogeneity, So yes we are more even but is it more fun?
Yesterday's track was different, I am looking forward to trying this on a more solid ground, before making up my mind. I am concern that our improved homogeneity as a hidden cost.

I had lots of fun last night, definitely some of the best racing I've seen in this group in quite a few weeks. I had varying degrees of battles with just about everyone in the field last night, be it at the front, middle or back of the grid.

I really grew to enjoy the track while preparing my car over the days prior to last night. And while the new regulations did bring us closer together, people were still able to make clean passes without waiting on someone to make a mistake first, most likely due to the draft which was much stronger than I expected it to be on the sweeper and back straight.

Going forward, I hope we can at least maintain this level of closeness and equality, if not improve upon it.
