I've never heard of this gentleman but this has been an interesting ride. I did think it was weird that the supposed email asked him to speak publicly about it to gauge interest. That certainly seems like something PD would not do.

At this point, I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility. This will certainly have got the attention from people at PD who should at least reach out to him to confirm it was not them. But at the same time, and I suspect the goal of whoever made this illegitimate email, PD will at least be aware of him and may now actually approach him with interest. It would certainly be the positive way to spin this for PD.

Again, I haven't heard this stuff before but it does sound like GT music and people here seemed very enthusiastic about it. Worst case, as someone else said, this has probably earned him some new followers and maybe some other company will see the news and take interest.

can you do a TLDR ?
I skimmed a bit watching, the first 10 minutes are him explaining the situation

Essentially the emails he was receiving seemed to him to be legitimate until an email stating it to be “A fan who wanted to give you your 5 minutes of fame” and that it was not genuine.

On searching for the positives, no financial info was exchanged and it did drive some new sales from people overseas in Spain and England.

Truly gutted for the guy though. It sounds like he was extremely happy about the prospect of his music reaching new ears through a video game as it’s not something he pursues, which is why he said them coming to him was what he wanted as he doesn’t like dealing with the business side of things.

Above all else, he mentions how cruel and hurtful this was, which is the worst part of this entire situation.

Edit: Tree’d by Famine TL;DRing my TL;DR😅

Another positive is that we need to be rational and objective when looking at these things. A lesson to us all in this day and age we need to be careful about what we want to be real and what seems a little off.

I really possible downside to this whole thing is a older gentleman could have potentially lost money or ownership of his IP or lead on even further had this been malicious rather than misguided.

Healthy skepticism isn't an insult just caution and due diligence.

Stay safe people and don't click those links!

The bad actors out there are all spoiling it for us... Due to their own short coming, lack of intelligence for the oversized ego, and in trying to be cheating others to make a name for themselves, it has created this destructive society full of distrust and distress, unnecessarily....

We could have all been a bunch of Care bears....

But instead here we are just running around shooting at each other, aimlessly and stupidly, the one with the biggest of anything, for what....:

I guess that's fun for some, but to others it looks pretty stupid...

To a certain extent, car racing game is also like that, a type of competition to win, but relatively less violent, and more rules and boundaries for engagement...

Perspective and opinion.

We all have a choice... Be constructive... Or destructive....

Carry on...

PS: I am still hoping that the deal goes through... Maybe PD / Sony actually reached out to him, but because of this oops moment and the explosion of this reveal, made them to "cancel" and back track, or at least make it appear so... To be back in line with the lack of communication or confirmation of GT8....

That could also be a possibility... So maybe now Dereck is inline with Kaz....

Whatever, I don't care anymore.

Que sera sera....

Well that's a bummer.

This does make me wonder what PD's official methods of contacting people are. Surely they provide several contact methods and I'd assume they would be contacting through Sony, especially here in the states. Do they send letters through the mail? Is it all email? Phone calls? @Jordan what methods has the company used for contact in your experience?

I suppose people were right to question the public outreach aspect of this.

Edit: Seems like the Redditor who posted it both deleted the post and their account that posted it.

Whats funny is we got all excited about that like we didn't already see this:

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Why Did Pharrell Williams Visit Polyphony Digital’s Tokyo Studio?

Superstar musician Pharrell Williams met with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital staff at the company’s offices in Tokyo, Japan. The visit was announced by Yamauchi himself on social media as he shared several photos of the occasion...
Which, I say this with all due respect, I'd be more excited about.

Yeah, usually email. Official reach-outs are always from @sony.com or @polyphony.co.jp addresses.

While everyone else is writing pages throwing a schizo tantrum for some reason, I'm just glad GT is gonna have some absolute choooooons🎶🎵🎧🤌🏻
You might want to read some of those interim posts, because at the moment it isn't.

It's also kinda sad that we saw this news and thought:
"Wait, Polyphony want to have him share the news publicly for community engagement? That's out of character for them, but cool!"
Only for it to end up being fake.

What does that say about sentiment towards Polyphony's relative lack of community engagement, that the skepticism caused by precedent was proven right?

This is actually a fair point. Polyphony is so hands off of the customer base, that it is to their detriment. They get away with it thanks in no small part that they put out a quality product, but one can't help but wonder what effect more engagement would have.
