Okay then, here is the image for Bernie and Max:

And the simplified map:

The track is quite long, about 7km. Hope you like it!

Very bahrian, but I like the look of it. 👍

It also looks a bit like a racing seat and wheel mount.

 Thanks for the votes everybody... nice idea for a comp, Waggles. Will be particularly useful if GT5 has a track editor, so we could turn our creations into 'reality' ;)

:( How did i miss this thread!

Some nice tracks there guys 👍 - congrats Chris, i'm sure it's the tricky first turn 'Cracker Complex' that swung the voting for you ;)

Is there going to be a second round? I noticed earlier that you mentioned Google Earth, and I was hoping that would form the next round because anything I do in Paint is going to be a pretty poor showing.

Nicely done TM, thanks for your votes everyone.👍
Good comp waggles, lets go again, set the rules.

That would be incredible. Just imagine the possibilities!

Google Maps Round

For this, you will need to select an area of road in Google Maps. It cannot form part of a current circuit. Screenshot it, paste it into paint. Then draw over your track in black.

Supply three images. Both drawn and map, map only, lines only.

Entries end on Sunday at 8:00PM AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time).
Voting will then start on my post following such time, and will end 5 days afterwards.

Go.

NAAACE.

Zed - press the print screen button on your keyboard (should be top row - hovering over the arrow keys). The curser should change for a split secnd - then go to Paint and hit paste - or Ctrl+V

👍

Does it have to be a circuit made from a single area from Google Maps (i.e. a circuit that could potentially exist in real life) or can you piece together different sections of road from wherever?

Another question: can you piece together several screenshots of the same location to create a greater area (or have better resolution of streets etc.), or does it have to be a single shot?

does it matter that the line only image is a bit inacurate? MS paint doesn't have a layer system, so I can't lift what I draw off the image

Preferably, get nice and dirty with the eraser. If you can work out a way to remove the map, do it. If push comes to shove, be hasty with the eraser.

In other words, be accurate.

I thought I had found a great track, until I noticed one of the roads had speedhumps on them :ill:

Stunning track choice Chris. 👍

[edit]

What are the rules on circuit adaptations, say removing central reservations, adding a bit of track width in certain places?

Name: Westside Street Circuit
Location: Sheffield, Great Britain
Circuit type: Street circuit
Length: 4.3 mile, 43 lap race

A lap with Martin Brundle: "A fast circuit with plenty of elevation changes and off-camber corners. Crossing the line we head down the relatively flat Ecclesall Road towards the first set of corners. Hauling down from 174mph, Berkley Bus Stop is a heavy braking area and ideal overtaking zone for the brave. Slightly Mickey Mouse in execution, Berkley splits a straight that would otherwise culminate in a dangerous 200+ to 40mph braking area on what is the slightly unsighted approach to Old Bank. The exit from Old Bank rises steeply up Brocco Bank over a crest before the fast righthand Botanical which then flattens out again before a fast, sharp lefthand turn named King Ted's. A short but steep uphill run takes us to the highest point on the circuit and probably the slowest corner too; Sutcliffe's Surprise. Sutcliffe's, named after West Yorkshire's most famous son, drops off-camber sharply to the right before continuing downwards past the hospital and through the flat-out Hanrahan's Kink. Another heavy braking zone leads to the tight lefthander at West End which is followed by a short but steep blast up towards Octagon, which is very similar to the previous righthander 'Sutcliffe's'. A short downhill straight flattens momentarily for the tricky double apex University Challenge before dropping down steeply again along the lengthy run down to the lowest point, Kelvin Complex. The circuit then loops around and heads back up the hill into a tricky curved, blind and crested braking area for the Supertram Chicane. The track then falls away again down Hanover Way, through Gatso's at the quickest point on the circuit which is close on 200mph. The final corner complex Armageddon provides a great overtaking opportunity as well as being the unusual backwards entrance and exit to the pits."

Armageddon? Sounds ominous.

Oh, wait. I see what you did there with the pit lane.

The 'Armageddon' name actually comes from the long pale building in the top right of that image. It's reportedly a cellar-head for lift shafts heading down to a large underground food and emergency supplies depot built during the cold war in case of a nuclear armageddon!
