Do note that R8s are going to be starting under $100,000. Don't get too worked up - they're going to be quite common in a very short amount of time. V8 Vantage common. 997 911 C4 common. Common.
I doubt that very much.
Most sites such as Motor Trend, Automobile, and even duPont list the R8 as $118,000 MSRP. Only forbes listed it as $109,000. And they're not going to be common at all.
Look at the type of transmissions offered in a 997 C4, V8 Vantage, and then look at what Audi says the transmission is for the R8. All 3 offer 6-speed manuals. However, only Porsche and Aston offer paddler shifts which are much easier on drivers these days. Audi only boasts a 6-speed manual.
And while the Aston may go for $111,000, the Carrera 4 goes for $78,000.
The fact that the Audi is going to be highest priced, and retain the more "non-friendly" transmission type is going to make it nowhere as common as the V8 or 911 Carrera 4.
EDIT* After checking Audi's European website, I found I made a slight mistake. The sequential 6-speed can be done with the paddles or "joystick". Automatic versions are available with a $2,000+ option. The U.S. site only boasts 6-speed manual. My apologies for that.
EDIT2* Did a bit more, and we were both correct in pricing. The $109,000 will feature a 6-speed manual. The R-Tronic equipped will boast $118,000. I still feel though, this will lead the R8 to be nowhere as common as the other 2. Both the other 2 when equipped with paddles won't cost anywhere as much as the R8 with them.
