Mustang SVO. The odd turbocharged four-pot 'Stang was an odd option to the 'regular' V8 GT, but of course, it was the precursor to the later SVT Cobra models. I still think they're cool, and of course, they are a rare find indeed.

I think they're cool, too. Kind of the "cult classic" of Mustangs. 👍

At what point will people realize the difference between "SRT" and "R/T"? I know English is difficult, but this is ridiculous. :dopey:

Dammit - all I wanted was some photos of my new car - why can't those other cars leave me alone!

:D

Seriously. Someone should just garage that eurotrash. ;)

Sort of a segue, I guess: "I'm over here now!"

To the first question, it depends on the circumstances. Do note that I would never photograph a vehicle on private property without asking first. To the second point, he does not have that right - if a vehicle is in public where it can be seen by the public, the owner cannot stop you from standing in public and taking a photograph of it, as you would any other object in public. He can get mad, move the car, or threaten you, but the police would be unable to assist him in anything to get you to cease photographing it.

I have been photographing cars for over two years now and have had just one minor confrontation - I was asked by mall security on mall property not to photograph a Lamborghini, and I obliged. I would probably never become confrontational, but under the right circumstances I may.

Oh, I'm pretty sure the owner does. If he calls the police, and they arrive to ask you to stop taking photos, they can probably prosecute for your ignoring them. As it is advised by law attorneys, never back talk or start an arguement with a police officer if he gives you an order or starts questioning you.

EDIT*
I'm not after an arguement Doug. It may work differently for the police in Denver, but here in Dallas-Fort Worth, the police pretty much make you follow their order, or arrest you for ignoring them. You'd probably end up free, but I don't think a couple pictures of a car would be worth it.

Today, at the orthodontist office, I saw a Porsche 912e. I had never heard of it, so I googled it and apparently only 2099 were made and only 500 had sunroofs. I couldnt remember if the one i saw had a sunroof or not, but still, that is one of the rarer cars I have seen.

But surely you shouldn't follow an unlawful order by the police, provided of course you know it's unlawful. And if an unlawful order did lead to court then it would no doubt be thrown out.

Atleast in my ideal and naive little world.

totally in love with this car,was with the girlfriend when i seen it and shes always part of "its just a car!" group but even she said it was beautiful.so the question came if we won 250k would you rather buy the car or pay off the house......she said the car :D

I'd oblige in most cases, but if it was an incredible car I'd tell whomever asked me to mind his own business.
What if it was a Hyundai S'Coupe and the owner started following you?
M5Power
Saturn Vue - all new model. Out and ugly. At Saturn of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado.
Better looking than the hack-job of a restyle on the last one. In any case, anyone know why Saturn decided to make it an ancestor of the 3000GT in terms of weight?
M5Power
But I was unable to, as this occurred instead:
That reminds me: Up through the SV or so, I always hated the tailights on the Diablo.
And does that SL have a rollover bar? What the hell?

Holdenhsvgtr
Jaguar XKR
Eew. Get that Buick outta here.
Bondy1625
heres my crappy attempt at photoshopping it to look like what i saw

Even then, it's not worth the effort.

I mean, even seeing a McLaren would be nice, but it wouldn't be worth taking more pictures of it if I'm asked to leave, and then go to court for ignoring it.

Sightings from miles around. Three whole miles, actually.

Dodge Magnum SRT-8

See? This is an SRT-8! :D

Jaguar XJR

Very cool car. Even more understated than the Audi S/RS lineup.

Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG

It's amazing how quickly a car can be made to look old. Or maybe that's because of all the SL's around.

Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG

This is the same car I took such a lousy photo of last month. Parked cars make much easier targets.

Alfa Romeo GTV6 2.5

Neat, but rather ugly little car. Looks very much like a 240Z (or at least something from the 1970's).

Not mine:

Saab Sonnett

A friend said that there was "some kind of Saab" at the garage he works at. He took this photo to send to me. It is indeed "some kind of Saab".

Now with extra Jaguar-ness.

I saw a BMW E36 M3 Coupe today as I was leaving work. I should have snapped a photo of it with my new phone, but did not think about it until it was already too late to do so. I have not seen a M3 in a while and thought it was nice to see one, especially since I have only seen a handful of the E36s.

Beautiful picture! 👍 Do you happen to have it in a larger resolution?

What I'm saying is that they would be unable to issue the order in the first place - taking photos in a public place of a public place is legal!! The owner of the car doesn't own the space around the car, nor does he own your right to be in it or do what you please in it.

I suppose let's agree to disagree - or we can ask harry to pull out the Photographer's Bill of Rights again - either way, I'm content.

And for the record, with me it would never ever get to the point where the owner was calling the police - if that happened, I'd run like the wind, but I'm just saying he's got no right to do so.

Toronado
And does that SL have a rollover bar? What the hell?

Yes - it pops up automatically in the event of an impending rollover, or at the owner's discretion with a button on the control panel. All SLs have it, not just the SL65.

Toronado
What if it was a Hyundai S'Coupe and the owner started following you?

I'd ride my bike into the woods.

Damn Doug you beat me to a picture of a new Vue.

This one was at a dealer, though - doesn't count. I just wanted to provide a photo for you guys. Saw a new model Scion xB today with Michigan 'manufacturer plates'. Didn't know they were out just yet either.

Get an R63 and then I'll be impressed!

Although truth be told I've seen just one ML63.

Holdenhsvgtr - great spot. +rep. 👍

I would guess Car & Driver or some other car magazine based out of Detroit had it out your way for a photoshoot.

And I must say that while cutting the grass I saw an Audi R8 which is about one of the coolest things I've ever seen. For the next few days I'm going to go by the VAG HQ to get a picture of it as I'm sure that's where the car belonged to and someone just had it for the night.

Do note that R8s are going to be starting under $100,000. Don't get too worked up - they're going to be quite common in a very short amount of time. V8 Vantage common. 997 911 C4 common. Common.

Wow I thought they were going to be more expensive then that.

The first ones will probably sell at a huge markup, but demand will die. The actual MSRP is $109,000, so I was off a bit. It's still cheaper than a V8 Vantage.

Bentley Conti common?

It's funny you mention the Continental GT because today on the road I saw a Toyota Camry. I was so excited to see something that wasn't a Continental GT that I zoomed behind it. Just as I was about to take the photo, I was cut off by a Continental GT. So I changed lanes to get closer to the Camry, almost sideswiping a Flying Spur. So I changed lanes the opposite direction, but unfortunately seven Continental GTCs were sitting in that lane, making it impossible to zero in on the Camry. Finally I just gave up and went home, but there were Continental GTs blocking my driveway. I parked on the street, walked inside, and **** me - there was a Continental GT inside my house. And my parents had morphed into Flying Spurs. Ahhh!

Speaking of which, my spots today:

Mom? Dad?

arnage-060507.jpg

Continental GT is the more common, crappier version of me!

corvette_retro53-060507.jpg

I am only posting this (awful) photo under the condition that we do not have another discussion about what this vehicle is, where it was made, and who makes it. Understood?

Of course it is. The Arnage has enough torque that it would even make the 3000GT seem spry and light on its feet. And I respect that. The Conti just has a W12.

I must be the only one who likes those. Well, okay, maybe not those, but the thought of an actual first style C1 body under, say, C4 internals, is downrgiht invigorating (because I couldn't think of the word that I wanted to really use).

Because you like your Corvettes ugly?

I don't get it - all the Corvettes to choose from and you prefer the C1.0?! Eww!

The Arnage is a torque monster, but are you aware it weighs in at 5,699lbs? That's more than the Acura MDX's GVWR, let alone its curb weight.

In my mind there are two ugly Corvettes: Any C3 made after 1972 but before 1981, and: the 1960-1962 Corvette. The 1953-55 car had class and elegance that no other one matches. Though the rear end is a littel wonky, I still love it.

I'd say the fact a quarter-ton weight disadvantage and 60 or so horespower deficit is more than made up for with the 300 lb. ft. it has on the Conti and the fact that it defies the laws of physics themselves to be nearly as fast as the Conti despite lack of AWD and said weight penalty.
Besides, one is a Bentley friggin' Arnage and the other looks like a bloated 350Z.

Made some changes for ya there.

If you want elegance and style, you shouldn't be looking Corvette anyway.

I doubt that very much.

Most sites such as Motor Trend, Automobile, and even duPont list the R8 as $118,000 MSRP. Only forbes listed it as $109,000. And they're not going to be common at all.

Look at the type of transmissions offered in a 997 C4, V8 Vantage, and then look at what Audi says the transmission is for the R8. All 3 offer 6-speed manuals. However, only Porsche and Aston offer paddler shifts which are much easier on drivers these days. Audi only boasts a 6-speed manual.

And while the Aston may go for $111,000, the Carrera 4 goes for $78,000.

The fact that the Audi is going to be highest priced, and retain the more "non-friendly" transmission type is going to make it nowhere as common as the V8 or 911 Carrera 4.

EDIT* After checking Audi's European website, I found I made a slight mistake. The sequential 6-speed can be done with the paddles or "joystick". Automatic versions are available with a $2,000+ option. The U.S. site only boasts 6-speed manual. My apologies for that.

EDIT2* Did a bit more, and we were both correct in pricing. The $109,000 will feature a 6-speed manual. The R-Tronic equipped will boast $118,000. I still feel though, this will lead the R8 to be nowhere as common as the other 2. Both the other 2 when equipped with paddles won't cost anywhere as much as the R8 with them.

Audi offers both a true manual and that DSG thing. Its styling will make it common. I saw my first V8 Vantage on June 19, 2006; since then I've seen nine. I guarantee you that in the year after my first R8 sighting I see considerably more than nine.

This thing will sell!!

PS - it's gotten more hype than any vehicle previously described.

...And I catch a lot of flack for saying that I like the 911 better...

(Apparently I'm a snob or something...)

You like how it looks better, or you like the vehicle itself better?

To be honest I'm completely reserving all judgement until I see a lot more of the R8. I've never seen one in person, and I've shyed away from magazine articles about it.
