If we wanted to see cars in a dealer we could just go to the dealer website or to our own local dealer.

No wants to turn this thread into a bunch of people posting pictures of 997 Turbos through the Porsche Dealership window.

Nobody is. I said earlier that maybe Serge got to see a customer car at a dealer that he would rarely ever see in his country (no offense). So, should he automatically be not allowed to post in this thread then? No.

EXACTLY
Which means both Holden and my own spots are valid. Dealerships and manufacturer sponsored events are not. Argument over.
Who cares? Are you going to be offended if someone posts a car from inside a dealer? These stupid rules can be bypassed by anyone. And it's amazing how a dealer shot could count just because of the car. You guys had no problems including the Spyker shot from earlier, and yet, there are plenty of Spykers being seen in the US now.

In the last couple days:

Extremely rare Alpina B7.

Damn you for getting a better picture of one then I did, I've been trying for weeks to catch the B7 that lurks in Rochester Hills (by my office) in the daylight. I see it almost every single morning but it's always to dark.

I saw it at Bavarian BMW/Motor City Mini the other day but it was in the service bay and there was no real thrill of catching it.

**Oh and that guy can't park that car.

Who cares?

Holden has already answered this question. What we dont care about is the country. I see bugger all where I live unless I go to london or another city / posh area. So shall I go round posting pictures of jaguars at the most local dealer? THIS IS NOT 'the best cars you see round your area' thread including dealerships. It is the 'did you see anything good today' thread to post pictures of GOOD car sightings not in dealerships of manufacturer events. No matter what the location.

Yes.

Imagine the thread is "Did You See Any Good Biscuits Today?". The four rules are:

  • Please, only list biscuits that are interesting in some way. We don't want to see anything run-of-the-mill listed. In the previous thread, people announced having seen a Bourbon, or a Custard Cream. These sorts of biscuits are not interesting, unless there is something specific about the biscuit itself that makes it unusual, like seeing a new flavour on/before launch day, or a particularly good custom job. Biscuits worth less than $2US a packet will struggle to qualify as "interesting".
  • Don't just state the name of the biscuit. Give us a picture at least - even if it's a crap one from a camera phone. If you can't show us the biscuit, how can we believe that you saw it? And don't just replicate an image from Superbiscuits.net or the vendor's web site: we want to see THE biscuit that you saw.
  • Give us some context. Don't just post up a pic of a biscuit and say that you saw it. It's much more interesting if you give us some context. Where/when/what you were doing when the sighting took place, for example.
  • Supermarkets, shops and Manufacturer sponsored food shows do not count. This means that a dunking meeting/eating competitions/enthusiast's club meeting does count. However, everyday "biscuit barrel" sightings are more interesting.

People who start posting up "OMfG! I saw an OREO!" (no picture) or photographs of the biscuit aisle at the supermarket will rapidly find themselves the objects of derision. I'm sure "these stupid rules can be bypassed by anyone" too - but what would be the point?

Look, it's not hard to understand. There's FOUR rules in the thread. FOUR. If you can't stay within those rules, don't post in the thread. Imagine how boring Doug's story would have been without pictures of the Veyron (rule 2). Or without the text accompanying it (rule 3). Or if it had been a Veyron at the local exotic dealer (rule 4). Or if it had been a Rover 200 (rule 1). Compare the post "rover 200 at the garage" with this.

The topic of the thread is "photographs of interesting cars you've seen today". The rules of the thread are 1. Interesting; 2. Photos; 3. Context; 4. Unofficial. If you decide they don't apply, you may as well post up the text "helicopter muzzle artichoke yodelling" - it'll be as much use towards the topic and purpose of the thread.

Don't like it? Start your own "Cool cars you saw today that might have been at the dealer but might not have been. Or all that cool for that matter. Pics if you fancy. Or not." thread.

This is the first time that I saw an SLR McLaren. (This morning)
Sorry,it his at a dealer, but I wanted to show that photo.

Carrera 4.

Audi TT.

Mercedes cabrio.

If, say, a biscuit enthusiast had turned up at a dunking meeting with their own biscuit, but was not entering said dunking meeting with said biscuit, instead just leaving said biscuit in the general biscuit storing area - would spotting this biscuit (an interesting biscuit, although non-competitive in specification) constitute a legal find?

Like my F40 at silverstone. Yes, if it is not part of the event at all, but a spectator's car it counts.

Interesting question from TheCracker...

OK biscuits is going off-topic, kinda. Why can't we all just agree that:

Dealership photos = OUT
Trackdays, sponsored race events/meetings, etc = OUT

General Road = In
General Parking Lots = In

Otherwise heck, I'll just go to a future motorshow, photo everything and post it all.

Rule four, post one:

Andrew, your track photos are lame for this thread. Ya see them and theres no kinda 'wow, cool' factor. It's just 'oh yeah, he went to a track, figures there would be nice cars there'

ill remember that when the twin turbo viper starts turning up :P (for the record that hasnt been to knockhill)
most of my knockhill ones are normally in a different thread anyway, just the "exotics" get posted here.

"Did You See Any Good Biscuits Today?"

Oh...I wish I could give you some rep for that fine piece of work.

And to make it even better is that you tree'd Serge.D who posted a car through a reflected piece of glass in a dealership.

If we dont sort this it might be time for a new thread.

In my opinon it should be:

OUT:
Dealerships of any kind
Indoor sponsored shows of any kind
outdoor shows sponsored by manufacturer
racing tracks and pit lanes
IN
public places such as roads and streets, parking lots
Race track spectator and officials car lots

....
IN
public places such as roads and streets, parking lots
Race track spectator and officials car lots

I'd say that 'race track spectator and officials car lots' would be covered under 'parking lots' anyhow.

You guys are still on this? Just show the damn pictures of cool cars and quit making a huge deal out of it. I don't care where they are from. I've post dealer photos, I've post autox photos, and I've posted out in the wild photos, no one seemed to care.

The subject arose because 90% of serge d's pictures were dealers, and he was posting quite a few.

I think some dealer photos should at least be recognised depending on the car photographed, im not saying things like 997 porsches, saabs or otherwise common sightings. For example, above Serge.D found an SLR, but im not sure if anyone noticed that its actually an SLR convertible, i believe the first of this thread? Okay so at a dealer it is, but, since there are probably fewer than 100 on the roads in the entire world, it would constitute as a rare find none-the-less.

Just my view on all of this...

Feel free to stab me and flame grill me if you think im wrong

I really like the SLR picture that Serge.D just posted. You were not the only to notice, but it is in fact a SLR convertible. I am sure it is the first spotting of a SLR convertible, dealer or not. Very neat! 👍

Like my F40 at silverstone. Yes, if it is not part of the event at all, but a spectator's car it counts.

It depends upon where it was parked.

I do not consider vehicles parked at a motorsport counting as a sighting, but I do consider vehicles parked at an auto show as such. As Famine intimated I do not consider Gumball cars or other vehicles participating in a rally to count either. My rules are strict though and beyond what "counts" there's a question of what we want to see. I would rather see an SLR in a dealer showroom than no SLR at all. Just keep the photos coming, people, and try to limit dealer/track sightings. Who cares where they come from?

Sounds good to me.

Also, I'm sure you all remember me posting THIS picture several million times:

That particular F40 is in fact an F40 'GTM' (gt modificado). It is for sale at £220,000 if anyone's interested. How you could go through the thought process of selling that I have no clue.
