Actually Sage if you knew when the Google picture was taken, we could know with almost 100% certainty if the cars are the same, because I can figure out when the plate (ending 837) was issued.

My only spot tonight:

mondial-053108.jpg

Mondial Cab doing exactly what 4-seat Ferraris are designed to do: carry women! He had 2 in the car plus himself. :)

I’ve done some Googling, and it looks like there’s no known way to directly extract the date/time from the images.

However, I noticed that the Fingerhut Gallery nearby had a “The Art of Dr. Seuss” exhibit, which according to several websites, was held there in fall/winter 2003.

Nah - that car's wearing '05 wheels, so it's at least then. Exhibit must've come back.

Hm, damn. Maybe… do you know how to find out what year CA registration stickers are? I’ve noticed that all of the cars in the area have turquoise or dark orange stickers. None of them are high-resolution enough to make out the numbers though.

I highly doubt it's the same car, Sage. The Gallardo Spyder is incredibly popular to be chosen in yellow and with those rims.

Next time you see one, ask the driver for a free Red Bull nicely. They always give them out 👍

I love Red Bull - I have a friend who used to be a rep. I'd get hooked up all of the time.
Yup. 👍

I pulled up next to one at the lights in my classic Mini. The hot chick in the passenger's seat (the driver was a hot chick too!) rolled down her window and I said, "Nice Mini. :D".

She said "Yours is cool too. You want some Red Bull?"

"Umm, of course!" And she gave me two six-packs! :D

I was a happy, and buzzing, man. 👍

Awesome.. I hate Red Bull, but I'd be willing to try it if that happened to me, and if I still didn't like it, I'd sell it.

Doing things like this really gives people a good impression of the company. It definitely made me consider trying it again:tup:

Dark orange was '08; turquoise was '07.

I find it strange that you guys take such a scientific approach to the mystery and how you have to know if it is the same Gallardo, which is completely taking away the specialness of the fact that the same exotic is on the Google Maps picture as yours infront of the same restaurant. You guys must've been the kids who just had to know how the magician did all the tricks at your buddy's birthday party and told the other kids that there was a compartment in the hat and the bunny was in there all along.

Not hating, just saying it's kind of weird that it had to be debunked if it was the same Gallardo. PS - has anyone else seen a Google Maps plotting mobile? I was driving home from Michigan last summer and came up behind this dark red Mazda Protege and thought what the heck could possibly be sticking out of this thing's roof. As I passed the guy, I saw the Google Maps sign on the side. I never even thought that I could be on the system somewhere until Sage's post. Maybe I'll check later today.

and i just noticed this, but rs4 does NOT have drilled rotors? what a disgrace of an auto...

Yeah what a totally ridiculous excuse for a car.

Yes, it has drilled rotors – it’s just hard to tell from my pics because they’re compressed.

I highly doubt it's the same car, Sage. The Gallardo Spyder is incredibly popular to be chosen in yellow and with those rims.
Which is why I said “there’s a tiny chance that it’s the same car (even if it’s not, it’s still a really neat coincidence)”. ;)

I don’t subscribe to Ignorance is bliss – the truth is the most important thing to me. It’s not like if I don’t find out whether it’s the same Gallardo or not, I’m going to fool myself into thinking that it is the same.

Also, you’re assuming that if they’re different, that’s less special than if they’re the same. That’s not necessarily so: if they’re the same, that means the guy is probably a regular, which might mean that there’s a decent probability of randomly seeing him around there, while if they’re different, that might mean that the probability of one being seen by me and one being seen by Google Maps is statistically lower (since maybe each of them only went to that area once). But all of this is beside the point – neither situation is more special than the other, I just happen to want to know the truth for the sake of knowing.

BTW, a note on magic (not that this is analogous – you just happened to pick something that I care about ;)): if the magician is good, it doesn’t matter whether or not you know how the trick’s done. Penn and Teller’s Cups and Ball routine is probably the best example of this. Also, I happen to know how almost all of the tricks are done in Lance Burton’s Dove routine, but it still floors me how technically skillful he is. Good magic is really just good performance art and lots of skill; bad magic is dependent entirely on the audience’s naïveté.

The looks, heat dissipation and helps to 'clean' the brake dust that can build up between the pads and the disc itself.

Is there any benefit to drilled rotors other than weight?

On road cars? None at all. In fact, there's not much benefit to grooved rotors either - the dust removing thing is pretty much a myth and, by removing the amount of disc that can contact the pad, you actually reduce your overall braking efficiency.

But you reduce brake fade which, for track applications, is excellent. Honestly, I can't recall the last time I've driven on the road and needed to exert maximum braking force twice in quick succession.

*Has grooved rotors

More old stuff from Mexico, but this time most of it works and looks decent.

a 1974 wood Dodge Monaco wagon, nothing rare with the exception that over here a big block was never offered, so this made do with stupid 318 engines:
74monacowag.jpg

Behind it, a 1957 chevy 4door post with IROC wheels that looked pretty good:
irocwheel57.jpg

A 350 1975 Chevelle two-door with an auto and period mags with gray stripes, pretty cool looking; this model was never sold in Mexico, the Chevelle was discontinued here in 1972 and was never offered with a V8:
75chevelle.jpg

1967 El Camino with Cragars; these were never offered in Mexico and are one of the most desireable muscle cars in here, this one got a dent a week later:
67camino.jpg

A cool-looking 1964 Flacon Wagon with different wheels, these wagons are rare here, as they were never a dealer car, you could order them and they were imported, so very few made it over here:
64falconwag.jpg

A seemingly forgotten Jagiar XK120 inside a shop, it was a pain in the ass to make the S2 focus on the car instead of the fence:
corsaclubizcalli075.jpg

A somewhat custom 3-series BMW, tought it looked quite well, but a week later, again, it had a dent in the door:

Clean Spirit RT with the standard engine (no Lotus head), these days these are difficult to find in good shape:

A mexican Mach 1 that was somewhat abandoned but has since dispaeared from that spot, note different wheels:

This... thing; had a Nissan truck grille O_o:

Mexican Alpine or Dinalpin; says so because law in Mexico in those days demanded that your cars were built here, so Renault allied with Mexican Dina and voilá, the Dinalpin, the mexican Alpine, was born; today these fetch top money with french collectors because of their freak value alone:
whitedinalpin.jpg

So here it goes, I'll post more later (:

Great pics as usual Cano! That Dinalpi has gotta be rare as anything, no? And that Jag looks so sad =(

Absolutely, even if they were pretty badly made, they are way rarer than a "worldwide" Alpine; a friend of mine has the last Dinalpin ever produced (has the last serial number known ofso far, at least) and, disregarding its rarity, he made a racer out of it, rollcage, 2 liter engine and 5 speed trans and all, massive camber, you get the idea; that was about ten years ago, today it sits in his garage on four flats covered in dust -_-

Cool Porsche with black wheels BTW, and that yatch... god...

Oh, and it's Dinalpin Rue, but the car lacks the final "N" in the front badge XD

Hee hee...

Subaru-based wackiness.

Moggy Minor. Nice plate for a Porsche.

Sorry about the colour balance. Camera switched itself off auto.

This one is for you Doug, a new A4.

Porsche GT2 with a tag that read KIMI F1...you think they might be a bit of a Kimi Räikkönen fan?

Said Shelby GT on the back, not sure if it is though.

New WRX STI and my god is it goofy looking.

Thanks for the shots. Just for technicality's sake, the plural of Lotus is Lotus.

The Omega is a German Lotus, so it was a beefed-up Opel Omega becoming Lotus Omega, while the UK used the Vauxhall Carlton, making the Lotus Carlton. The badges on the nose stayed on both versions of the cars. Your cellphone managed to show the deep green of the paint, which often comes off as black. Those things are such beasts.

The Alfa Montreal at the show is nice too!
