Greetings forum.. I have just recently joined Gtplanet. My best friend is Matt R, and he has introduced me to all of this. He has been showing me your sightings for months. Names like Rue, Doug, and Serge have commonly come up in conversations when we talk about cars. I was with matt when we backed up to let doug out at Lennox. I love going carspotting with him in buckhead, and i look forward to becoming an active member. I just wanted to introduce myself.

Welcome to GTP.
It's an honour for me that I that I see my name with great car spotters like Rue and Doug.:)

Friday night.

Someone told me it's a Ford Ranger Thunder XLT.
Maybe not rare, but first time I saw one.

New Audi A4.

New Audi A4 and Audi?

A other picture of that Audi.

Just proving the 'collector plate does not a real one make', here's a replica 427 Cobra on collector plates.

This thing looks bad-ass with the Minilite-style wheels on black, never seen one with that kind of wheels, they look just as good as the Halibrands.

About the "this is turning into a photo thread instead of a spoting thread" stuff, I think its true but I'm crying inside because I can't participate... freaking dangerous Mexico City...

What happened to the "car photog" thread, Exige?

And That volvo is quite cute Serge, I'd drive one.. but I'm weird.

Take a look at that "Post pics of truly beautiful cars" thread. I looked at it before any replies and knew it wouldn't get anywhere because it's all in preference. I don't want a photography thread to be like that, where someone posts a photo of a car and says "I don't know, I just like the picture." I also don't have any car photography stuff other than Lotus stuff and my own shots. There are a couple photogs out there, but not many of them license their work with Creative Commons, like I do and so should you, so it's hard to respectfully share their work with you.

If anyone has any ideas on how to throw together a photography thread, PM me and we can try to figure out a way to have a large bank of spectacular car photographs. Let's work it together!

I know I am new here, but I am convinced doug has sold his soul to the devil. Matt just showed me the ralph lauren's bugatti, the enzo, and the mc12... i do not know what else to say....

And anyone know why there'd be lights/reflective material behind the grill of a BMW 5 series? 2 small rectangles behind my neighbours newly-appeared Beemer.

Got a photo of them, but then the photo became corrupt..hmmmmm.

That was my first thought but,
a) He's an ex-RAF mechanic with a small fleet of VW's in the back garden.
b) Since it has turned up it hasn't moved from his drive, so about a week.

Unless he's got himself a new misses (4 bedroom house with just him in, stud.) I'm not convinced on the police idea.

[EDIT] Just googled it, could be ex police car, doesn't sound like they remove them.

When my dad owned his Cavalier, he had floodlights behind the grill so he could engage in hooliganism with them without getting in trouble when they were off (he also used them as headlights when he put headlight covers on the car).
Due to your description of this person, I doubt that is the case here, but maybe he has normal fog lights inside the grill so the front end looks cleaner? Do 5 series come with fog lights normally?

Just to repeat what I said in the edit, it's probably an ex-police force car. After a quick googling i found a number of examples for sale where the lights had been left behind teh grill but were no longer wired in.

Also have you ever noticed if you look closely at the headlights of the R8 youll see R8 inscribed on a piece of plastic just in front of the bulb? :)

I'm not really set on that yet. It is something I am going to have to save for, but I'm thinking around $700. If I like something that costs more thats fine though too.

For that kind of money you could afford yourself a Canon G9! I'd say go for it, pretty much a compact DSLR!

Personally, I would go for compactness as my highest priority. If you're prepared to carry a larger camera around all the time fair enough, but I wouldn't have got half the shots I have done if my camera wasn't easy to pocket and always on hand. You can have the best camera in the world but if you leave it at home you may as well not have one at all.

My recommendation would be a slim and small Canon Powershot SD1000 or SD750 (I think they are the names in the US - different here). These cameras take spot on pics and the start-up time is quick which is also important. These cameras also take excellent low-light pictures whcih is a bonus. When in your pocket they are as if they are not there. My only quibble with them is that you shouldn't keep them on all the time like I used to have to do when taking photos off the bridges. This seemed to effect the focus mechanism. I would still always recommend a Canon though.

Here are some examples which I took with my Ixus 70/SD1000

In motion: 993 Turbo trvelling at around 30mph

Stationary: This F355 obviously wasn't moving

Low light: This was taken on a fence with the flash off...
