A celica convertable? That rare? I see at least 1 a week.

Not to sure how many the UK's got.

Saw a CL55 AMG convertable,An older M5, Monte carlo SS

Ill post pics in a bit

Well the Elise probably was. :D

I presume you're referring to the Yukon GT though. Basically what that was was a 2-door version of the first-generation Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Those two vehicles didn't debut until 1995, but they were based on the Chevrolet and GMC Suburban, which debuted in 1992. Originally General Motors thought there'd only be a market for the Suburbans, plus the two-door models: Chevrolet's was called the Blazer, and GMC's the Yukon. In 1995, four-door models were debuted, called the Tahoe and Yukon - names that exist to this day. Of course, the four-door models gained extreme popularity, the two-door ones were soon dropped.

To my knowledge, the Yukon GT, which was intended to be a "sporty" version of the two-door model, was made from 1993 to 1997 but is quite a rare option package, though I have seen several - all were black with red lettering on the side (thinking about it, I think I may have seen a silver one once).

TODAY was a lovely Sunday in Denver, and produced leagues of extraordinary vehicles, but particularly this one:

ahm-f355s.jpg

ahm-f3552.jpg

August 20, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

The vehicle came up behind me at a light. As I was sitting there getting my camera ready to photograph the black F355, I looked closer and said out loud (to myself), "is that thing BLUE?" I don't know that I've ever seen a blue Ferrari before, and alas it wasn't much of a color on the F355, though it sounded wonderful and I was able to drive next to it for some time. The vehicle was being driven by a man in his sixties and a slightly younger woman was seated next to him. Plates indicate a late 2000 or early 2001 purchase (car was cancelled in 1998).

Other sightings were pretty fantastic:

The SL65 was actually photographed yesterday, the 19th, and the two Bentleys were within fifty feet of one another. :D
Is that the same Turbo R you photographed just about a week or so ago?

I'm a bit surprised you've never seen a blue Ferrari either. Hell, I saw a green F355 Saturday at the Lambo dealer with 1 other F355.

Is that a replica?

It's possible, given where it's hanging out. I'm no Ferrari expert, but having seen it up close, it looks real enough to me.

Given yours and some other people's recent posts, I've done some thinking. There are a few advantages to living in the New England area, but car-watching just isn't it.

All those pictures seem to be from one view. Do you live or work right over that intersection? Must be hard to get anything done....

Some of those are pretty cool - the Outback sedan is the first-gen model, not sold outside the USA. I've never seen one outside Colorado, but supposedly the entire thing got started when a customer in Connecticut liked his wagon so much he suggested they make a sedan too. The first-gen model was only sold in '98 and '99 - most people are unaware of their existence.

The SUS? There's three where I live. (It's New England! Home of the Pats, Giants, and LLBean!) I'll get photos soon....

M5Power
I will not be outdone!

I know, I know...resistence is futile. :P

M5Power
Whose house did you break into for these pictures?! :D

I never kiss & tell.

I have new stuff but I want to get rid of the old stuff:
Mercury Cougar - the original, not the 90's, depressing junker.
MGB GT - seen at MBUSA headquarters. Mean anything?
Porsche 968 Cabriolet - because I could.
Rolls Royce Corniche
Rolls Royce Silver Wraith II
--> both RR's were being saved for the same sunny day, apparently.

Nice pics Doug. I have yet to see an SL65... How about that for a coincidence. That E-Type was in the Jaguar showroom yesterday. I don't usually put showroom pics in the thread, but seeing as you saw it's long lost brother, I've stuck it in here!

It's a very nice car - I prefer your coupe to my convertible, honestly. Ironic that they're both the same color! About you never seeing an SL65 - it's odd - I think between us we could probably cover just about every high-dollar car ever made. Except - neither you nor I seem to come up with the really high-dollar sightings - I've seen a few Carrera GTs and an SLR and various other expensive stuff, and you post Phantoms and Murcielagos frequently (and even the spectacularly rare, exquisite, and beautiful Superamerica) but collectively I don't know that either of us have seen the most iconic and most expensive: McLaren F1, Enzo, Veyron, F40, etc. I'm at a loss to explain why that is - I mean, they're rare, but based on what we see daily we should see them eventually. I'm a bit mystified by that.

Ferrari F355 Spider (For you M5Power! =P

 Gorgeous from that angle. Great pics as always - what the hell is a Mini Cooper Widebody? The number of Ferraris you see blows me away - I see them every couple of weeks and I still struggle to keep my head above water compared to you!

*McLaren*
Is that the same Turbo R you photographed just about a week or so ago?

 Yeah - parked just down the street from where I saw it before. I needed an even number dammit!! Usually I just let the older Rolls-Royces and Bentleys go.

I'm a bit surprised you've never seen a blue Ferrari either. Hell, I saw a green F355 Saturday at the Lambo dealer with 1 other F355.

I checked back through my unique Ferrari sightings over the past fifteen months and came up with the following totals by color:

Red: 18
Black: 4
Yellow: 3
Silver: 3
Blue: 2
Tan: 1

So I was wrong - the other blue Ferrari I saw was this 612, which I actually saw only two weeks ago and even posted in this thread. How about that though - 31 Ferraris in about 60 weeks! (which includes only one or two during our snowy winter) The interesting part is that 30 of the 31 Ferraris were photographed in the same eight block by five block area. :D

The SUS? There's three where I live. (It's New England! Home of the Pats, Giants, and LLBean!) I'll get photos soon....

Yeah - no surprise there - the big markets for the vehicle were the Denver area, and New England. Sort of like the '88-'91 325iX - we've got a leg up on the rest of the world when it comes to all-wheel drive cars. :D

Porsche 968 Cabriolet - because I could.

 I love those cars! First manumatic transmission ever in a production car, you know - way back in 1993 (then Audi licensed it and started using it in 1998 linewide).

TODAY was one of the oddest days on memory. Check out my sightings:

aho-4.jpg

August 21, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

Folks, it's been two months since I've seen a Plymouth Prowler, and here are two within the same 30 minutes. Incredibly they were even on the same block! (though they probably weren't aware of each other) What the hell is going on here?!

Two Prowlers....

Last time I've seen them, there were around 9 and they were on a road trip and they were from the Prowler Club.

The red one is hotter than the silver.

I'm totally in awe - can you scan the article? And if not - can you read the license plate number? If I could know the tag number I'd know what county the vehicle was registered in, which, depending on the county, may give me more of a chance of seeing it. Exoticspotter.com has a shot of a McLaren F1 with Texas plates (MCLAR-N) in Snowmass Village, the hotel community of Aspen. When I was there this summer I searched every parking lot in Snowmass hoping lightining would strike twice but, no surprise, no luck. :D Let me know more details - you've blown my mind!

I had a look at the mag again last night for you. It was actually spotted at Pebble Beach, but had Colorado plates. Unfortunately the angle of the picture and the fact that it's little more than a thumbnail in the mag means reg identity is impossible :( - It is silver in colour if that helps any?

Just checked on Exotic Car Spotter. I think it's probably this one:

http://exoticspotter.com/list.php?p...0054_107551.JPG&model=51&make=24&location=all

Which looks to have a Colorado plate (can't quite make it out) and would seem to be Ralph Lauren's - does he have a Colorado residence? Aspen?

Exotic Car Spotters Macca page apears to have a few spottings of Ralph's car around the Monteray area, there's also a silver F1 spotted near another concours event in Connecticut the driver of which looks like Ralph Lauren also. It seems either the guy has a few (aparantly he has 3!), or puts some fair mileage on this one.

*edit* Digging deeper... "Ralph Lauren's own Double RL ranch is here in Ridgway" - a good place to start looking?

You're absolutely correct. I've never seen a Carrera GT and I've never seen an SLR. I know for a fact that both of those cars are here somewhere, but I'm just unfortunate not to see them.

I have however seen an Enzo (red) here and 3, that's 3, Ferrari F50s. I know at least 2 of them were not the same one (?!) because as I was taking money out of an ATM at 6am in the morning 2 red ones screamed past me, followed by 3 Porsche 996 GT3 RS all in white and red and all five cars in tight procession... and I can never prove it cos I didn't have my camera handy!

Actually harrytuttle I just pop down to a walkway on a busy main road in my lunch break.

I was in the club/bar area of town last night when a Cadillac Escalade EXT rolled past. Yet another car way too big for our roads.

are you kidding? There's a Hummer dealer not far from my apartment. They're only good for driving on highways... I ought to make a pictorial tour through the streets here, just so you can see how narrow they are in many towns.

I'll take a photo of the lane across the road from my house... That is main road. You can't even fit 2 cars side by side down it. And when a bus or coach goes near it's mayhem cause there's nowhere for them to pull in.

The Hummer, Escalade and F150 all going into my 'too bloody big' category. I think the Dodge Ram probably is aswell, but I've only seen them on American roads.

Nothing much today, except well, a brand-new BMW 330Ci Convertible 'owned', ie. very-badly damaged; front was destroyed to the driver's door and the roof was completely gone.
Besides from that, another dark-blue Bentley Continental GTC. 👍

Yellow is like the 2nd most popular color for a Ferrari, and I haven't seen one in months, not even at dealerships.
The only "tan" Ferrari I can recall is the 456 I saw with chromed wheels ( :ill: ). There was a red 575M with chromed rims too.

I think now stock chromed rims are ugly on any Ferrari. The good thing about Saturday was actually seeing a 360 CS WITH that racing stripe, and in Grey. The only thing better was that it was right next to a red CS. :)

As for Prowlers, I haven't seen one in quite a long time, and when they're on the road, they're on the highway going the other direction. When not that, they're in a parking lot outside shows.

Which reminds me. Do cars parked OUTSIDE auto shows count?

I must join you for lunch some time. I'm sure a quick hop to HK from NYC shouldn't be too bad....

*McLaren*
Which reminds me. Do cars parked OUTSIDE auto shows count?

Outside or inside an auto show should be fair game. A showroom or dealership is probably not. ;) But if you see something on the ultra-rare list (classics, 959, McLaren F1, XJ220, Skyline GT-R in the US, etc.) then I'm all for it, no matter where it's found. Breaking & entering private garages not officially encouraged. ;)

This is the last of my old stuff, and it's kind of the bottom of the barrel. I'm really only posting it to hold off for new stuff.

Mazda MazdaSpeed Protoge - the picture is poop, but this one is real. Honest.
Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX - the car Mits' desperately needs again
Nissan Altima SE-R - the best front-drive Nissan ever, bar none.
Saab 9-7x 4.2 - one of two sold :D
Shelby Cobra replica - loud, though
Volvo S60R - for the life of me, I can not take a decent picture of any new Volvo R :grumpy:

Ciao!

Two Prowlers....

Last time I've seen them, there were around 9 and they were on a road trip and they were from the Prowler Club.

The red one is hotter than the silver.

Purple is still my favorite - it's interesting how the vehicle's "official" color is the one it always looks best in - like the Impreza and blue.

The vehicle in that ExoticSpotter photo, unbelievably, does have a Colorado license plate. And yes, Ralph Lauren has a ranch in Colorado - it's on the Ouray County/San Miguel County line in southwestern Colorado:

003-dallas.jpg

I took that picture a month and a half ago on State Highway 62. The fence is the dividing line between public land and Ralph Lauren's property. Only weeks later did I find out I was taking a photo of Ralph Lauren's property and obviously only today did I find out there was a McLaren F1 registered there. In the photo, the vehicle is actually running dealer plates numbered 480-EYE, I believe (which is a number consistent with a dealer plate). Those plates could be registered to any car dealer, though there are few in that area (and no high-end dealers), so I have no idea on this one. Usually the plates are registered to dealers but dealer employees drive them because they can avoid paying registration taxes by having the "dealer" be the official owner. I'd think Ralph Lauren would be wealthy enough to afford not to do that!

I'd kill to see the vehicle and I bet spending a lot of time in the Ridgway/Telluride area would eventually yield a sighting of the vehicle. However it's a four hour drive from Denver, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ralph has never driven the vehicle up here.

Here's an interesting coincidence: the week that vehicle was spotted in Carmel, a Veyron was spotted (not by me) in Denver, and I spotted four Phantoms, two Murcielagos (including the Roadster that landed me in CAR), and a Maybach. Other interesting coincidence: that was exactly a year ago this week!

Oh you will - you know it. :D Whichever of us gets a Veyron first buys the other a steak dinner!

Indeed - it was a 456 that takes the only tan Ferrari sighting I've had. That was the worst of them too - not only did it completely destroy my image of the 456 (a vehicle I had once labelled the "best-looking Ferrari of all time"), not a single person noticed it was a) a Ferrari or b) ridiculously expensive (which it was, when new).

Which reminds me. Do cars parked OUTSIDE auto shows count?

Yes - and though harry said he counts them inside shows too, I personally don't - if you did that, it'd be a lot easier. Plus, if you did that, I would've already seen a Veyron! In my view, the ONLY cars that count are in public or private, just so long as they're not on display or being serviced. I would even count a sighting in a car dealer's parking lot, with my sole stipulation being that the vehicle had private plates. But if it's on display or being serviced, then no way.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletouch

I swear I'm right - I'm not sure why you think the DS was manu-matic (the article doesn't state that) but Teletouch is more of a push-button gear selector that anything else. Neither are automatic transmissions with a manual shifter, which is what Tiptronic is. Really - the 968 was the first! (and the 911 which debuted the feature that year also)

Stat of the night: 25% of naturally-aspirated 911s are ordered with Tiptronic. That number rises to 33% for Turbos.

The Prowler is one of the few cars that just looks awful in silver (a color any other car can be safe in). The louder the color, the better the Prowler looks.

Yeah - totally agree. I'm not sure the theory behind ordering one in silver - though the vehicle did have Rotary Club plates so maybe the old guy driving it couldn't see himself in a red, yellow, or purple car.

chaser_fan
Here are the Ferraris I've seen since taking my camera around HK. Out of the 28 photographed yellow is a long way behind red. I thought there were loads more than that...

Between your Ferrari sightings and mine, we've got 34 in red - more than every other color combined. In fact the next most popular is yellow I believe - seven sightings - or about one fifth of red's total. The lesson: buy a new Ferrari in red. By a used one in something other than red. :D I'm surprised you got a white one, though not surprised it's a 456. That vehicle shouldn't have been a Ferrari - it'd have been a gorgeous Mercedes.

Speaking of colors, TODAY was black day. No personal speculation as to why. If I see another DB9, I'll throw up.

ahq-4.jpg

August 22, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

A close-up of the DB9 coupe:

ahq-db9.jpg

August 22, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

Upon seeing the vehicle, I sent the following text to one of my car-spotting colleagues here in Denver: in front of ocean- either a DB9, or a vanquish, or a V8 vantage, or a new XK- no one is sure. Being a huge Callum fan, he came right back with Everyone is sure it's good looking. Touche. Milestone: tonight I took my camera's 8000th photograph!! (the CLS55)

I saw somewhat of a rarity today - A DeTomaso Pantera, and an earlier (More angular) model, at that.
I saw that silver BMW Z8 again, I think I know where the guy works, because I've driven past it in the same parking lot two days in a row.

Oooh - so where do you have to work to own a $130,000 BMW, then? :D

Somewhere concerning the aerospace business, I presume, as it is on airport property.
And it's a wee bit more than $130,000 when you put it in Canadian dollars.

I went down the old favourite location, the footbridge, today and saw some nice cars but nothing really special...

- Red Peugeot 205 GTi (Common everywhere else but only the 2nd I've seen in HK)
- Red Ferrari 360 Modena on the back of a break down truck
- Yellow Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (Seen it before though)
- Red Ferrari 360 Modena Spider
- An old Bentley Turbo R in white (Nod to M5Power last week)
- A hatrick of AMG SL55 (I love this car)
- Aston DB7 GT in silver (Never really liked this car)
- Various Porsche 911s in various guises (Highlight was a yellow wannabe 993 GT2)
- A few different Skyline varients (No GT-Rs)

That's about it. Pics later. I'm going to put all the Porsche pics together just to show you how many there are in HK. The pics count for about 40% of the Porsches I saw in that time too, as the rest were all Boxsters, Caymans, standard looking Carreras and Cayennes - I'm going to be sick if I see another Porsche! Send me some DB9s M5Power!

I saw a Bently Continental GT followed by an Aston Martin Vanquish S on my lunch break yesterday.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to take a photo as they came round the corner quite quickly.

There are quite often a few nice cars going past my office as there's a prestige car dealer about 5 miles away. A couple of weeks ago, a trailer went past with a black Ferrari 430 and a red 430 spider on the back. I can only guess they were being delivered.

Taken from a Ford Fiesta forum I visit. This picture was taken in the car park of the Dorchester Hotel in London.

How small is that Veyron compared to even the Conti nearer the camera (never mind the Roller and hideous Duracell Bentley)?

A lot smaller, the Veyron is a similar size to a BMW M3 lenth wise, but it's a couple of centimeters wider.
