Definitely! Do you live in the area? I was down there today and caught an Arnage Mulliner, Gallardo, and Maybach 57S (plus a super-rare, super-expensive Ford F-650) but the rain today kept a lot of good cars out. There was also a 575 down the road at the Intercontinental.

Somewhat I live north of the city itself. When I was leaving I also saw a grey Maybach with 23 or so inch grey rims on it. Not to mention a Ford Ka of all things:boggled:. Which is the cheapest looking car I've ever seen....

The Barchetta is a spectacular car. I can't think of any other car made in any even remotely recent year that came without a roof. Oh Ferrari...
I think you'll find it has a roof.

It may be an emergency-get-you-home-as-long-as-you-don't-exceed-70mph-roof, but it is still a roof.

Good people of GTP, I need you help confirming what I saw today

It was a Lexus LS 400 like so:

1990-94-Lexus-LS-400-94806011990204.JPG

But it was a ragtop:odd:

At first I thought it was an el derado convertible, but Lexus badges proved otherwise

It had light tan and had all of the gold trimmed plastic on it and everything like that. Am I looking at a after market conversion?

A conversion. Similar to this?

Some of the cars i've seen lately;

- Silver Porsche Boxster (997)
- Silver Porsche Boxster (or it could have been the same as above)
- 1980's (?) yellow Corvette folowing a white Toyota Supra RZ
- Silver Toyota Supra RZ
- Black R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R
- Silver R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R (or could have been some other R33 with GT-R bits)
- Multicoloured 1980's or so Porsche 911
- Yellow Honda S2000
- Red Honda NSX
- Black 80's/90's Porsche 911 3.2
- Chrysler 300C
- Dodge Ram SRT-10 (a few going around now, selling for about $100,000)
- Bright green Ford Performance Vehicles F6 Typhoon
- Black Ford Performance Vehicles F6 Typhoon
- Silver Ford Performance Vehicles F6 Typhoon
- Heaps of FPV GT's and GT-P's
- Red Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica (lives in the same town [of 12,000] as me, the guy also has a silver 550 Maranello)
- Black Porsche 911 Carerra S (997)
- Blue BMW M5 (new one)

And heaps more i've probably forgotten.

It's an Attack K1... Based on a 1991-1993 Honda Accord platform, incredibly enough.

1990 dammit!

Well, the Lambo Mucielago Spyder has a useless roof...
But seriously, while I'm not sure, I don't believe the Panoz AIV roadster came with a roof. Or, if it did, Google Image Search didn't see to suggest so.
Edit: Okay. If I recall, the Panoz had a roof in Midtown Madness. Nevermind.

I considered mentioning the Murcielago Roadster, and alas its roof is not only slightly useless but very disgusting. I'm not sure just because it had a roof in Midtown Madness it has a roof, but I played that game half to death (I could to this day do reasonably well navigating Chicago) and concur with that statement, at the very least.

This one? If so you've seen one of just 100 57S models in the country. I see it every Saturday (or, I have for the past four Saturdays). Very cool car - the guy usually just cruises up and down Peachtree then valets it at either Lenox or Phipps.

I think you'll find it has a roof.

Ferrari made roofs, but only because customers begged for it, and the one they made was leaky and crappy, not to mention unbelievably restrictive. For any practical purpose, it's a roadster - a "true" roadster.

Was the roof down? If it was up, I'm guessing you've seen a landau top - essentially a fake convertible top that was vinyl molded around the metal side of the vehicle, like this:

landau_cloth.jpg

(usually it covers the entire roof)

If the top was down, you did see a conversion, and the LS400 is a car that I know was converted. I personally have never seen a conversion, but I remember advertisements for them in DuPont Registry years back. If it was a Landau top, it's not unbelievably uncommon; I've seen them on a wide range of vehicles from recent Chevrolet Impalas to Toyota Camrys. If it was down, it's quite uncommon but not one-off. Either way it's definitely odd.

With the new 2.2i S2000 engine. Front suspension of Audi and back suspension of Honda. It was for sale for € 65.000

S14 Nissan Silvia (or possibly 240sx if American) with a S15 Silvia front end conversion.

I know I have a Motor Trend article that covered it (ironically, probably one of Motor Trend's last good issues) in a Top Speed test. I'll go look for it and report back on the Panoz' roof or lack-therof.

The more I look at photos of the vehicle, the more I question whether a roof is even possible - where the hell do you attach it?!

After the Vanquish, this is all so passe.... ;)

Aston Martin DB9 Volante
Bentley Flying Spur
Bentley Turbo R
- I prefer the older Bentleys to any of the new ones. Less sporty, but so much more stately.
BMW Z8 - "nice", not cute, "nice" 👍
Porsche 911 Targa - did I post this shot earlier? I can't find it....
Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet - one of the many times that modified GS-T will look slow.

Oh, I figured out part of the problem with my camera. The "foggy look" the first few pictures have is due to my fingerprint on the lens. :dunce: The last picture with the Turbo shows the subtle improvement.

Yes, the top was down, how much does a conversion like that cost anyway?

Todays sightings: nothing at all, well the was a Studebaker MK IV in a Sh** green:

But other than that, nothing to rare!:)

After checking the May 1998 issue of Motor Trend, I am able to confirm that it did indeed come with a roof. It was just one of those silly snap-on soft tops like on Shelby Cobras and old British roadsters, and instead of side windows it had side curtains. Curtains!

I was going to edit my post, but:
It depends which one you see. Standard, personal-use models, like the one I photographed (and should be up by Thursday) start at ~$90,000 and can run as high as $150,000 with options (which are plentiful). F-650s that see commercial use - like heavy-duty towing and hauling - are typically different vehicles, which are nowhere near as unusual or expensive. This is the sort of one I'm referring to:

1463.jpg

Wouldn't be too surprising if a lot of racers were using that, honestly, especially if they were making a lot of money racing.

The image is broken, but i get the idea. There is one guy that has a "pimped out" version of it, most likely costing 150K+

You name it, hes got it. From a 26" LCD in the back for his 2 kids, to the 500+ hp diesel motor under the hood, not to mention 25,000 dollar featherlight trailer hes pulling

Sometimes, some people have to much of a good thing, its kind of obscene:grumpy:

Finally getting my shots up from the weekend. Following a hard drive crash, I've installed PhotoShop so hopefully these pictures are of a much higher quality from here on out.

All pictures taken November 11, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia.

57s.jpg

Maybach 57S. I see this every Saturday without fail. I think the owner, an older white guy, just likes to cruise.

575m2.jpg

575m3.jpg

Ferrari 575M and Rolls-Royce Phantom. The owner of the Rolls-Royce lives at the hotel it's parked in front of; the Ferrari's tag is "PAID DJ".

780.jpg

Volvo 780. Rarer than the 575 or the Phantom...

arnage-1.jpg

Bentley Arnage. How about this color choice? Texas plates.

arnage-m.jpg

Bentley Arnage Mulliner. Yes, it's a Mulliner, though at the time of the photo I didn't know that. Florida plates from the Miami area, but purchased at a Bentley dealer in Scottsdale, Arizona.

blackwood.jpg

Lincoln Blackwood. The world's lowest-selling truck, according to Wikipedia.

coupe.jpg

Maserati Coupe.

f650.jpg

Ford F-650. Starting at around $90,000, these things are hugely rare on the private market. Very cool to see, provided you don't see them too often, because they're absolutely huge. If you throw on enough options you can approach $200,000, and an extremely luxurious huge truck.

gallardo-1.jpg

Lamborghini Gallardo. I have seen either a Lamborghini or a Ferrari every weekend since mid-September.

xlrv.jpg

Cadillac XLR-V. There's also one on display inside a local mall - along with an STS-V.

s6.jpg

Audi S6. New model; probably the first one in Atlanta. A black family got into it, and the father, who was driving, revved the engine. Some observers thought it was an A8. Very cool car, and the high-intensity fog lights are also cool. Sound is a bit subdued. "V10" badges on the side, like the RS4 and S4 have "V8" badges. I'm excited to see more of these in the future.

There you have it. Rain and temperature limited the cars, but I hope next weekend will be a bit better. I don't think, however, I'll have another really spectacular weekend like the ones I used to have until March. Only four more Saturdays in Atlanta in 2006.

Sorry, I left out the worst part. I guess when a vehicle's design is this forgettable, it's easy to forget. You know. The Bentley collage:

bentley.jpg

Nothing special but I found it amusing

This is a Holden Commodore wagon (VY) with Pontiac and GTO badges on the rear and on the front gaurds (fenders, wings), also has the Pontiac GTO wheels. (for anyone that doesn't know this Commodore wagon and the GTO were made in the same factory and share platforms)

Nice sightings!

Thanks!

Anything special about that Beamer, Doug? Or is it just some normal one with a spoiler on it? The pic is too small to tell.
And how common are Jag XK8's around there?

That picture is included because of the Flying Spur, though I presume you knew that and were just asking if the M3 was a special version. No - it was just a standard E36 with a wing and some aftermarket wheels. Regarding XK8s, I'd venture that in one day of spotting I see around 22 old model XK8s and at least two new ones. Perhaps next time an XK8 collage is in order (although I'd miss more than half of them).

Like the man in the orthopaedic shoes... I stand corrected.

Doug, what's the car (big black and silver rims) behind that huge Ford? It's not an M6 is it?!

Really? Ive seen one of these around my area a couple of times, doesnt look like anything spectacular, just rather large and completely black.
i'll have to get pictures if i see it again :)

Sorry - I meant to say it's a standard E36 M3. I thought that much was obvious based on what you said. You were right, of course. :D

The black car with black and silver wheels is a regular 6-series. The car is hugely popular among black Atlantans, all of whom refer to it as a "six fo'ty-five," regardless of whether it's a 645Ci, a 650i, or an M6, and regardless of whether it's a convertible or a coupe. I should keep a record of cars I've seen "pimped out" in Atlanta - a list which would include a Volvo XC90 I saw a few weeks ago.

They're not unbelievably uncommon, but that's because most pickups are sold in huge numbers. Around 2,500 Blackwoods were made. The truck was extremely flawed though: the payload rating was just 1,000 pounds, it had an unmovable bed cover so you couldn't get anything in the back, it was not available with four-wheel drive, and it was nowhere near as opulent as the vehicle it was made to compete with, the Cadillac Escalade EXT. As a result it failed miserably. Lincoln realized it was going to fail after only a few months of sales and stopped production, stating all Blackwoods would be 2002 models. However, sales were so bad that some of them had to be re-VINned and called 2003 models, so they could get them off the lots.
