Okay, so here's a little background behind these sightings:

Nice! I'd beg to differ on your best sighting though - Conti GTs are everywhere; Mustang GT-Hs, while not as expensive, are really unusual, and the Arnage is quite a bit more uncommon and more pricey than the Continental!

Wooo. Write him a letter and ask if you can visit!

I could, but the method in which I obtained his address was sort of odd. Not illegal or anything, but it's clear he's gone to great lengths to preserve his privacy, and I just got lucky doing research finding his address. If I go up there over Thanksgiving, over Christmas, and over Spring Break and see nothing, I'll consider writing a letter.

I saw quite a few a rare cars today. Because it was raining it is of quite bad quality.

A Honda Civic Si Sedan. My first sighting ever. I took it from a bridge and it was parked on the road below so I had to use Digital Zoom.

pict0627dd2.jpg

An Acura CSX. My first sighting as well.

pict0634yi0.jpg

I think its a MB SL65.

pict0628zh2.jpg

Saw too many Audis to remember which one it was. Probably an A4 wagon.

pict0631yi5.jpg

S55 AMG. Pretty damn rare.

pict0636mg0.jpg

I think it's a Saab 9-4X.

pict0643ip8.jpg

Cadillac CTS-V.

pict0649zm8.jpg

BMW M3 Coupe.

pict0642oj1.jpg

Hummer H1. My first ever and perhaps my best sighting ever. I was so excited that I dropped my (thin) camera on the floor while trying to shoot it. I'm glad the LCD didn't crack, since its not my camera.

40th Anniversary. Got good taste.

That orange VT 6.0 there is quite famous on the western coast. It is often see at quite a few meets. The 2 after it (going way) are Diablo GTs, one in a very rare black. The gold 6.0 after it is the SE, in fact, the same SE used for the first photos of the SE model.
I've seen that ruby SV as well somewhere before too.

I think its a MB SL65.

It's not. It could be either an SL600 or an SL55, but it really looks like an SL500.

I think it's a Saab 9-4X.

There's no Saab 9-4X. There's a 9-2X, but that's just a run-of-the-mill 9-3.

Interesting. Yeah, I've heard the guy takes his cars to shows all over Colorado and the west coast, and the cars are pretty well-known, though he tries to keep a low profile. We'll see if I get lucky and see one or two of them!

I'm terrible with Saabs, you see.

The SL had an aggressive front fascia. I know for sure its an AMG model, just that my camera didn't capture it well.

I'm pretty sure it's not - AMG models say the number of cylinders and the type of forced induction on the side; that one hasn't got the badge. I'd put money on it being an SL500, honestly.

Great day today:

All photos taken November 18, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia.

phantom-2.jpg

Started as always with the silver Rolls-Royce Phantom, whose owner lives in the upscale hotel behind the car.

phantom2-2.jpg

Then there was this Rolls-Royce Phantom. I realized today that I have seen at least a Phantom and either a Lamborghini or Ferrari every Saturday since September 9th. Then:

nsx-2.jpg

Acura NSX. Meh.

Highlight of the day:

azure.jpg

azure2.jpg

This is a Bentley Azure Mulliner, which is a $390,000 vehicle. Only around 160 were made, making it the rarest vehicle I've ever seen. It's actually the second one I've seen - I saw the only one in Denver on a regular basis, though I found out a few days ago that it's presently for sale at Ferrari of Denver. The owner probably traded up for the new Azure. Either way, I've seen 1.25% of all Azure Mulliners manufactured.

silver-cloud.jpg

Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, Rolls' "base" model from '55 to '62. Around 2,500 were manufactured. Being driven very slowly by a very old man. The whole thing seemed fitting.

z3coupe.jpg

BMW Z3 Coupe. Very rare car.

360spider-1.jpg

I was extremely happy to look up and see this Ferrari 360 Spider make a turn right in front of me. I chased it down the block, but wasn't able to get a better photo than this.

viper-1.jpg

Georgia Tech plates on this Dodge Viper SRT-10. I love this car. I love how it looks, I love its presence. I know it's horrible to drive, but I love to look at it. :D

360-spider2.jpg

This is a different Ferrari 360 Spider than before (based on the license plate number). I love seeing these cars.

maybach-1.jpg

The Maybach 57S I see on a weekly basis. As previously mentioned, the owner likes to cruise. I saw this car three times today. Very cool, considering it's one of around a hundred in the States.

m6-1.jpg

The first white BMW M6 I've seen, and only the third one I've seen period. Hate the wheels, though.

mdx-1.jpg

New Acura MDX. Gorgeous vehicle. Also saw a new Ford Expedition EL today, among some other new cars. I need to start recording when I see new cars.

ferraris.jpg

Here's a Ferrari F430. The place where I photographed this is unfriendly about photographers near valet parking, so I had to shoot it from the road about 100 feet away. Fortunately, I have good zoom! :D

vr4-spyder.jpg

The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Spyder. Very rare vehicle, though the SL is rarer, and I've still never seen one of those.

elise.jpg

Lotus Elise. Meh. These are everywhere. I think I saw an Exige today, but meh again.

gallardo-2.jpg

This fellow, a young Asian guy, pulled up to mall valet in his Lamborghini Gallardo with a collie in his lap. Swear to god. You can even see the collie in the shot if you look closely. He then moved to the other mall, giving us these photos:

I'm going to say it again: I love the Lamborghini Gallardo. Look at it, dammit!

And I do believe that was my day. Not bad, as usual!

No spotting next Saturday, as I'm in Denver for Thanksgiving, though I'm doing a drive-by of the house of the guy who owns the Veyron, so maybe I'll see some decent stuff.

That settles it I'm moving to Atlanta just for the cars.

 The most exciting thing I saw was a Lincoln MarkVI, and a 71 GTO. The funny thing is, whenever I go to the Seven Eleven, I always see cars like this.

Ferrari:drool:

i saw a Lotus Esprit once at the Gold Coast a few months ago:drool:, but i didn't have the digital camera:(

M5power, ive got a question.

You see that same phantom every single day, yet every single day you take a different picture of it and tell us all about it.

Ive seen about 8 different pictures of that one vehicle from you.
Now im not saying its not 'anything good' but it just seems to me that you're becoming a bit repetetive...

If i saw a certain car every day and i knew i was going to see it, i'd get some decent pictures of it once, for this thread, or for my own viewing pleasure, and, on any subsequent day, admire it as i walk/drive past.

Just a thought.... :)

They're great here, but I'd move to Monaco or Dubai - we hardly compare to those places (rumor has it there's just one Enzo in Atlanta - it belongs to the owner of Ferrari of Atlanta).

Just a thought.... :)

I've given the issue a lot of thought over time, and I eventually decided to continue to photograph the car. Here's my reasoning: there are some people who never see Phantoms. When I go back to Denver, I won't see a Phantom at all; possibly one over the entire summer. So I shouldn't take it for granted when I do see it, and I should continue to photograph it, for one day, I will not be so lucky. Usually I make the photo really small, but I accidentally made it big today.

EDIT: By the way, I forgot this crap:

It's a wonder I photograph these cars.

You are correct about Monte Carlo, Doug. They aren't exactly 1 after the one, and most of the cars are Mercedes-Benzes and Jaguars, but you can spot one about every 5-10 minutes, mostly Ferraris and Porsches. Of course, seeing anything like a Corvette or Viper is pretty rare.

About the Enzo. To bad you moved at the wrong time Doug. I believe they had the rare orange McLaren F1 w/ aero kit in with the Enzo a few months back.

Damn, Doug – this makes La Jolla look poor, and it’s frickin’ rich (I spent about two hours driving around last weekend and saw some of the most amazing houses ever). The only really rare thing I’ve seen so far is a Ford GT. Otherwise, it’s mostly Mercedes-Beamer land.

Doug... Why do you value the Ferrari 360 Spiders so highly? Especially when you slate the Conti GT so much?

The 360 Spider is probably the most common Ferrari I see. Okay, that's no comparison to the US, but still.

Maybe because he agrees on the fact that it's a gorgeous Ferrari? 💡

Had a good weekend of spotting, but no picture though:

A pack of 4 Ferrari's:
Black612 scagelletti(sp?)
Red 360 modena spyder
Red with stripes 360 challenge stadele
old but nice 318 in red

Other include a maserati quaterpotre, lotus elise and exige

All were around the infinion raceway area around 8:30am yesterday morning, ill try to get pics next time

That's basically how it is in Denver - you've got to try hard to see rare cars, because most of the rich people don't show off their wealth. Not so in Atlanta, though, clearly...

I'll have to find the website forum again, but someone on another forum recently spotted it in the West in Las Vegas.

Damn. Well, I've bascially resigned myself to the fact that I'll never see an F1 anyway - there are a few registered in Colorado with Ralph Lauren, but it seems like those are always kept in California. Right now I'm focusing on the Enzo, the Veyron, the Diablo, and the Vanquish, and if I get those four then I'll move on to the impossibly rare stuff: McLaren F1, and Mercedes CLK-GTR.

Well, by comparison, the Continental GT is about six times more common. I value Ferraris and Lamborghinis so highly simply because I love Ferraris and Lamborghinis. They're a treat to see, and I absolutely adore the way they look. They're also quite expensive. :D What can I say - I have a crush on Italian cars!

Also I think the 360 will be my first Ferrari. We'll see how that goes.

The 360!? Doug, I thought you wanted the 355!

As for the CLK GTR, good luck man. I don't think there's even 5 registered in the US. That'll be a tough car to spot though there's been one seen at a few meets.

Yeah, it'll be a tough decision between the two vehicles, but the F1 transmission is really appealing to me, and that's extremely rare on the 355. I've looked at the economics of the issue, and I think the 360 will be within my means at that time. It's still years off, indeed, but coming closer by the day... :)

Definitely. Exoticspotter has shots of one in Florida and one in California. I don't have a good idea how many are in the States, but 35 were made (25 + 5 performance + 5 roadster) so it's probably a few more than five. Not much, though; possibly under ten. Seeing one would really be the ultimate. But, again - gotta see a damn Vanquish first!

Have you seen any of them anywhere, as opposed to on the road? I've seen all 6 at shows, but only the Diablo and the Vanquish on the road.

I like that last picture of the Gallardo - very computer gamey.

Umm, Doug, I think your numbers are mixed up. There were only 2 SuperSport models, and they were originally CLR GTRs to begin with as well.

Yeah - I've seen two Vanquishes; one at the Denver Auto Show and one on the floor of Ferrari of Denver. I've seen three Diablos: two on the street, including one on a night that I forgot my camera, and one in a show. I've seen one Veyron, in the Denver Auto Show, and I saw an Enzo after climbing a tree outside the service bay of Ferrari of Denver after hours.

I like that last picture of the Gallardo - very computer gamey.

Thanks! :D The valet guy sat in that pose for a few seconds, thus letting me get the picture.

I definitely could have my numbers mixed up. I just got my figures from Wikipedia:

"After the completion of the 25 original CLK-GTRs, AMG's specialist group now known as H.W.A. modified existing CLK-GTR chassis or created additional cars from spare chassis. These cars included 5 CLK GTR AMG Roadsters, modified with the removal of the roof and the addition of rollover bars.

Another variant was the CLK GTR AMG SuperSport, ... Only 5 were produced by HWA."

That language is vague, stating that there were spare chassis and stating that some were modified, but suggests a total of between 25 and 35 produced. God only knows how accurate it is. You probably know better than I, as this is the extent of the research I've done on the matter.
